Greg Allen Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections
Dylan Cease (9.4% Barrels/BBE) will have to deal with wind blowing out in Cleveland
Winds blowing out at a fairly decent strength to center (15 mph) in an already positive run environment could spell trouble for the rookie right-hander, who has struggled in his first 10 major league starts for the White Sox. Dylan Cease is a talented arm (50 Future Value grade via Fangraphs), but just hasn’t found it yet at the major league level. In addition to 22.8% of fly balls leaving the yard with 9.4% Barrels/BBE, Cease hasn’t helped his case with a 9.7 BB%. The Cleveland lineup for tonight features a combined average 9.1 BB% vs RHP this year, so there should be plenty of opportunities for Francisco Lindor (121 wRC+, .258 ISO vs RHP last calendar year) and Carlos Santana (132 wRC+, .253 ISO). Greg Allen (120 wRC+, .190 ISO) is your value bat for $3.5K on DK and just $100 over the minimum on FD. While LHBs have a wOBA 100 points higher than RHBs against Cease since debuting, xwOBA sees only one point of different at .337 and .338.
Cleveland left-handed bats are in a good spot vs. Mahle in GABP
Tyler Mahle has been a decent pitcher this year, but given his extreme platoon splits (.365 xwOBA vs. lefties, .290 xwOBA vs. righties since 2018) it becomes clear which matchups to target him. Since 2018, Mahle has allowed a .379 OBP and .555 SLG to left-handed batters. The Indians will have 7 left-handed hitters out of 8 in their lineup tonight in Great American Ball Park, a great park for left-handed power. In addition, WeatherEdge (available to premium subscribers) projects an increase in home runs in what is already a homer-friendly park. Carlos Santana (.399 xwOBA vs. RHP this year, Jason Kipnis (.362), Francisco Lindor (.348), Tyler Naquin (.335), Jose Ramirez (.312), Jake Bauers (.305) and Greg Allen (.285) are all 7 lefties in the CLE order this afternoon. Allen hasn’t seen much success vs. RHP this year but is batting 2nd at just $3k on Draftkings. Kipnis, Bauers and Naquin are all $3.7k or less on DK. Jose Ramirez has a .339 xwOBA over the past 14 days as he’s looked much better at the plate compared to earlier in the year. He’ll bat 5th and cost $4.3k. Also working in the Indians’ favor is a hitter friendly ump in David Rackley. Cleveland currently has a 4.65 implied line vs. Mahle and the Reds.
Most important bats still present for well projected offense resting players
While the Indians are resting a few players, the biggest dogs are still in the lineup: Francisco Lindor (119 wRC+, .249 ISO vs RHP) and Jose Ramirez (159 wRC+, .315 ISO). Against Glenn Sparkman, batters from either side of the plate are above a .340 wOBA in 33 innings this year. He has not exceeded four innings in any outing, start or relief, and is backed by a poor bullpen (4.66 FIP, 8.3 K-BB% last 30 days). Cleveland has a 5.25 implied run line that's second best on the board and they should sustain most of that even with this lineup. Greg Allen (79 wRC+, .091 ISO) bats second and costs just $2.5K on FD.
The Value Is Usable On This Slate
Cleveland is the top offense on the slate tonight, and like everyone, I'm expecting them to score some runs tonight. Sam Gaviglio has a .357 wOBA and a .194 ISO with a 14.9% strikeout rate against left-handed hitters this season. Greg Allen is used more for his defense, but I'm willing to take a shot on this slate because of his value. He's a cheaper option on the highest implied team total, and with him hitting ninth, I don't expect him to have a lot of ownership. Allen is always a threat to steal a base as well.
Favorite Stack of the day! And it isn't in Coors
I absolutely love the Indians today! Led by Ramirez and Lindor the tribe have the 2nd highest projected total on the slate yet should be lower owned than the Coors game. I think this whole lineup is stackable 1 through 9 against Lopez and the awful Royals bullpen but 1 through 5 especially stand out. With 92 degree weather and the wind blowing out in KC I honestly expect the Inidians to score 8 plus runs today and think the teens are a real possibility. The is the only team I am stacking! As a guys who usually stacks only 3 or 4, I am making an exception today and 5 man stacking these Indians as many ways as possible. I suggest you do the same! If you are looking for 1 offs, it's Ramirez followed by Lindor, E5, Alonso then Brantley but like I said, you should be fully stacking here.
Lucas Giolito has a board high .396 xwOBA and 90.5 mph aEV
The Cleveland Indians have a 5.59 implied run line that's highest on the board by more than three-quarters of a run tonight. That they'll have to accomplish this against Lucas Giolito without Edwin Encarnacion should be no great feat and may even add a bit of value to the lineup, though Greg Allen has not hit RHP very well (53 wRC+, .105 ISO career) and has a -66 wRC+ (14.3 Hard%) over the last week. Giolito has the highest xwOBA on the board (.396) by 58 points tonight. His 90.5 mph aEV is also a board high. Top Cleveland bats are expensive, but Michael Brantley (141 wRC+, .211 ISO vs RHP last calendar year) and Jose Ramirez (167 wRC+, .323 ISO) are two of the top overall bats on the board. Francisco Lindor (122 wRC+, .251 ISO) drops to the cleanup spot.
Chalk Stack
Lucas Giolito may be the worst pitcher to still be a part of a Big League rotation. Giolito is the owner of an outrageous 6.35 SIERA and has the second highest xWOBA (.396) of pitcher's that have faced at least 250 batters. The Indians are going to be chalk and for good reason. They are an expensive stack but there is a chance some value opens up if Encarnacion and Kipnis remain out of the lineup. Guys like Greg Allen, Yonder Alonso and Lonnie Chisenhall would be the main beneficiaries in the absence of Encarnacion/Kipnis, with the latter two offering strong power upside.
Value In The Leadoff Spot
If you're looking for value, Greg Allen gets the nod to leadoff for the Cleveland Indians at a cheap salary. Allen hasn't flashed much power, but he does have some speed (three stolen bases this season) and will face Artie Lewicki, who has allowed 42 hits in 29 career innings in the majors. The Indians have one of the highest implied team totals outside of Coors, so Allen makes some sense for salary relief without sacrificing upside.
Low owned Tribe stack? Yes Please
I absolutely love what will be an unowned Indian stack today in GPP's. I am not usually one to pick on Kyle Gibson but today that's exactly what I'll be doing. Gibson has been absolutely owned by this Indians team throughout the years. Of the 5 hitters we project in the lineup with at least 17 career at bats vs Gibson, the lowest batting average is Kipnis at .353 and they have hit 7 HR's with 15 extra base hits in about 100 at bats. On top of that the tribe are red hot (aside from today) scoring 7 runs or more in 6 of 8 making the pricing extremely high but also lowering ownership as people will pay up for the Yankees and Coors as they skip over the Indians. Fire up your tribe stacks today!
Greg Allen (< $3K) leads off for the top projected offense (5.75 runs) on the early slate
Cleveland has the top run line on the early slate (5.75) and like other highly regarded offenses this afternoon, they too are sitting one of their top bats (Francisco Lindor). That puts Greg Allen (48 wRC+, .100 ISO vs RHP last calendar year) in the leadoff spot against Reynaldo Lopez for less than $3K on either site. Lopez has some talent, but has been very inconsistent (three or fewer strikeouts in five of last seven starts, 6.4 K-BB% for the season). His ERA is well below estimators due to a .218 BABIP and 16.7% of his season run total being unearned. He has a standard split since last season with LHBs (.331 wOBA, .365 xwOBA) garnering more success than RHBs (.275 wOBA, .321 xwOBA). Michael Brantley (143 wRC+, .213 ISO), Jose Ramirez (163 wRC+, .305 ISO), Edwin Encarnacion (139 wRC+, .267 ISO) and Yonder Alonso (125 wRC+, .199 ISO) all grade out strongly, though may inhibit the ability to afford Kluber if that's the chosen path. Even Jason Kipnis (75 wRC+, .160 ISO) has been hitting the ball well lately (138 wRC+, .39.1 Hard% last seven days).
