Goalie seeks first win in three weeks
Looking at Henrik Lundqvist's game log is not pretty as has recorded just two wins in his last 15 starts. However, on this three game slate, Lundqvist is perhaps the most stable option in net. The New York Rangers check in as the biggest favorite of the night. Lundqvist's value is aided by his splits at home (2.67 GAA, .914 SV%) versus on the road (3.48 GAA, .902 SV%). While Henrik is priced more appropriately on DraftKings ($8,000), he is far too cheap on FanDuel ($7,400). In any case, Lundqvist is viable in all formats on this watered down slate.
Veteran goalie draws best matchup of the night
After a surprising playoff appearance last season, New Jersey has been a disaster this season. After the All-Star break, New Jersey has struggled to find any offense, posting a league-worst 2.14 goals per game. While the Rangers' defense is nothing to get excited about, Henrik should see a number of shots as the Rangers have allowed the third-most shots against (35 SA/G) after the All-Star break. Kyle Palmieri was not at the morning skate which further depletes an already abysmal offense. Lundqvist's price across the industry is attractive on a slate featuring a plethora of offensive firepower.
This struggling goaltender is in a good spot tonight
Henrik Lundqvist has not been very "King Henrik"-like this season, but he still shows flashes. Tonight, the New York Rangers are home to a Detroit Red Wings team that is playing on the tail-end of a back to back. On the season, Lundqvist has a 2.89 goals against average and an acceptable .914 save percentage to go along with two shutouts. While his numbers are slightly worse at home, taking on a tired Red Wings team should mitigate that. Over their last 10 games, the Rangers are allowing a 66.4 CA/60 which is second worst in the NHL. So Lundqvist is going to see a ton of rubber but if he's on his game, he could put up a big score because of this.
Top Goalie Tonight
The New York Rangers are a huge favorite tonight as they host an offensively challenged Buffalo Sabres squad, which brings our attention to Henrik Lundqvist. The Rangers goaltender certainly got off to a slow start this year (3.21 GAA, .828 SV% in October), but he has been brilliant the rest of the way, posting a 2.30 GAA and a .932 SV%, and he should continue to stay hot tonight at Madison Square Garden. The Sabres sit in the basement of the National Hockey League when it comes to goals per game, and their road record (5-13-6), indicates the Blue Shirts will have little trouble putting them away tonight. Although Buffalo is not much of an offensive threat, the Rangers inability to prevent shots on goal (allowing an average of 34 shots against per game, good for the third-most in the league) should result in King Henrik posting one of the highest scores on the night, and being one of the top options in all formats.
Pay Up For This Goalie Tonight
After a rough start to the year, former Vezina Trophy winner is finally starting to resemble the elite netminder we all know; entering tonight's game with an 8-2 record which includes a stellar .932 SV% over his last 10 games. A matchup against an underrated Florida Panthers team may seem risky (and it is), but they rank dead last in scoring on the road this season and will be playing on consecutive nights on the road. If New York can manage to stay out of the penalty box throughout much of tonight's game, Lundqvist should have no problems turning aside plenty of low quality shots to easily pay off his steep price tag with the potential to carry you to the top of a GPP.
After a slow start, this goaltender has turned it around
Henrik Lundqvist struggled in October but he has been solid since then. He's up to a 2.62 goals against average and a .918 save percentage. He's taking on a Canucks team that is playing above their head and no longer relying on the Sedin's for scoring. The Rangers allow a 61.18 CA/60 which is the fourth worst in the NHL. This many chances against allow Lundqvist to potentially rack up the saves and put up a big score for your gpps.
Who To Start In Goal Tonight?
It is yet another night where I really dont feel comfortable going all-in on any goaltender. The Toronto Maple Leafs are the biggest favorite tonight, but that game could end up being high scoring, and I am not sure I trust the San Jose Sharks on the road, or Henrik Lundqvist (3.00 GAA, .907 SV%) at the moment. In other words, this looks like a night where we are best to focus on tournaments. Frederik Andersen is always a great GPP option, as the Maple Leafs should be able to provide him with enough offense for the win, and he could easily to see 40 shots in this contest. Both Martin Jones and Henrik Lundqvist have big potential as well, in a game that could go either way. Even though King Henrik has struggled this season, I would give him edge, as he is likely to see more shots.
