Cedi Osman will start ahead of J.R. Smith on Monday

Osman will return to the starting lineup for Monday's matchup against the Detroit Pistons, which will send Smith back to the bench to resume a reserve role. Smith has averaged 28.1 minutes over the Cavaliers last six games, but his move to the bench will likely result in a significant reduction in playing time. As for Osman, he logged 24 minutes in his return from a two-game absence due to lower back spasms, and he appears poised to see closer to a starter's minute workload after having four days off since Cleveland's last game. Osman had been a bit sporadic from a fantasy standpoint prior to his injury, but he still owns a 21.9% usage rate and is averaging 0.76 DraftKings and 0.73 FanDuel points per minute, keeping him in play for tournaments on slates that lack obvious value options.

J.R. Smith will start for Sam Dekker (ankle) on Wednesday

Dekker was diagnosed with a sprained left ankle and will miss approximately two-to-four weeks. In his absence, J.R. Smith will start at small forward in Wednesday's matchup against the Oklahoma City Thunder, which will slide Cedi Osman down to the power forward spot. Smith has averaged 24.5 minutes off the bench the last two games, so he'll make for an interesting tournament target if he's able to approach the 30-minute mark this evening. The Cavaliers are already without Kevin Love, so Larry Nance theoretically should step into an expanded role in the frontcourt rotation sans Dekker, but he hasn't played more than 27 minutes in a game this season, leaving that in some doubt.

Smith is actually active for tonight's game against the Minnesota Timberwolves, however, he is not expected to play. Smith shouldn't have a huge role in the rotation for the Cavaliers with head coach Tyronn Lue focusing on developing a young wing rotation that primarily consists of Rodney Hood, Cedi Osman, Jordan Clarkson, and David Nwaba, while rookie point guard Colin Sexton is set to begin the season as the sixth man off the bench. Tristan Thompson should continue to start at center alongside Kevin Love in the frontcourt with Osman, Hood, and George Hill rounding out the rest of the starting five, but he still only logged 27 minutes in Wednesday’s season opener compared to the 14 minutes Ante Zizic saw off the bench. Since LeBron James has now taken his talents to Los Angeles, Love figures to assume the responsibility as the focal point of the Cavaliers offense and recorded a 33.8% usage while averaging 1.38 DraftKings and 1.31 FanDuel points per minutes with James off the court last season.

Will This Hit-or-Miss Guard Go Off?

Just when you count out J.R. Smith is when he normally strikes. He made the dumbest of decisions in Game 1 and the MVP chants by the Warriors crowd rattled him in Game 2, but now he's at home (where typically role players play better), so I can see JR getting hot. This is a boom/bust GPP play, but with Rodney Hood at $1K, he should draw a ton of attention, leaving JR lower owned than you'd think, and his ceiling is still the same.

Cheap Value Playing A Ton Of Minutes

J.R. may have made a boneheaded play in game one but I expect him to bounce back with a solid shooting performance. He will play a pile of minutes and the question is will he knock down his shots?? I think he will come out strong and have a nice performance and even get some garbage time run down the stretch if the game gets out of hand. J.R. seems like a key piece to paying up for studs and safe with the amount of minutes he will be on the floor.

Need to gamble to have a shot in massive field GPP's

In order to have a chance to win a massive field GPP on a 1 game slate you are going to have to take some chances. Game 1 was a thriller but this feels like it could be a blowout opening minutes for some of these bench characters. I like Clarkson because he will shoot twice a minute and Cleveland may need to look to others who can create there own shot.. Lebron can't get 50 every game and in this one I'm expecting Cleveland to look to Smith and Korver with Clarkson and potentially even Hood being strong values if this one starts to get out of hand. On the flipside I love Jordan Bell and Livingston regardless of game environment here. I think Mcgee offers some real upside and again, if things get out of hand. Dont be surprised to see some Mccaw. I suggest taking a stand on how you think the game plays and draft accordingly. Just make sure you try to get 1 or 2 of these guys at least in your GPP lineups.

Someone Other Than LeBron Has To Score

For the Cavaliers to keep these games somewhat competitive, LeBron will need some scoring help, and that can come from the streaky J.R. Smith. Smith was bad in Boston during that series, but he has performed in previous NBA Finals matchups against the Warriors. Smith isn't consistent, which always keeps his ownership down, but if you pick the good game day for J.R. Smith, you will be handsomely rewarded.

Take The Salary Relief Where You Can Get It On FanDuel

Cheap plays are strangely tough to come by tonight on FanDuel, even on a four-game slate. So I will look to plug in J.R. at one of my shooting guard spots for only $3,600. While he is usually a little too scoring dependent for my tastes in cash games, the price mitigates a lot of that risk. And it's not like we have many other options to look at in this range. The minutes are what brings him the most safety, as he has logged 34-35 minutes in the past three games. There is actually a ton of upside here in tournaments too, as he is a hot shooting night away from destroying this price tag.
