James Reimer Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections
Goalie Isn't Good, But the Matchup Is
This write-up will be short but sweet. First the bad news. James Reimer isn't a great real-life goaltender. His numbers are pedestrian at best (3.39 GAA with .895 SV%). Now for the good news. He's facing a Ducks team who are dead last in the NHL in goals per game at 2.26 goals per game. By comparison, the Lightning are leading the league with 3.72 per game, or a goal and a half more per game. Vegas has Reimer and the Panthers as -165 and they should pick up the win at home against a pedestrian Anaheim team.
Another injury for the Florida Panthers to deal with
Roberto Luongo left last night's contest early, and James Reimer stepped in making 26 saves on 28 shots in nearly two periods of play. Florida has had an unfortunate stretch here this week with Vincent Trocheck going down with a brutal leg injury, and now Luongo is injured again. After a relatively hot start to the season for the Blackhawks, they have cooled considerably. Chicago has just two wins in their last 13 matches, and they have not scored more than three goals in a month. Even with Florida's injuries, they check in as a moderate favorite (-155), and Reimer's price is cheap across the industry making him a viable option in all formats given the likelihood he sees 30 or more shots. Look for Florida's top line to lead the way with Reimer stabilizing the back end.
Get behind this backup goalie for the all-important win
With Roberto Luongo nursing an injury, Florida will turn to James Reimer tonight at the BB&T Center in Sunrise, Florida. Reimer has performed as most would have expected this season, posting a modest 18-13-5 record with a 3.03 goals against average and .911 save percentage. Making matters easier for Reimer tonight will be the fact the Panthers check in as a healthy -200 favorite against an Arizona team, who although have been playing better, have struggled all season long on the road. In a previous meeting against the Coyotes this season, Reimer made 39 stops on 41 shots as he spearheaded his team to the win. While James is priced appropriately on DraftKings at $8,300, where checks in as the second-most expensive netminder, on FanDuel it is a different story as he is priced at a mouth-watering $7,700. Look for Reimer to easily make 30-plus saves and have a fantastic chance of picking up that all-important victory.
The Florida Panthers are one of the biggest favorites on the slate
The Florida Panthers host the Buffalo Sabres tonight in one of the best matchups you can have. With the Panthers at home, they are -205 favourites which is one of the largest on the slate. James Reimer will be between the pipes as the Panthers play their second game in as many nights, and he has not been that great this season. However, the Sabres are terrible offensively as they average just 2.39 goals per game which is dead last in the NHL. While the Sabres don't generate many shots for Reimer to rack up the saves, as long as he keeps the puck out of the net he has elite upside tonight.
After a horrific start to the season, this goaltender's season has taken a 180
In October and November, James Reimer was terrible. In October, he put up a 3.70 goals against average and a .898 save percentage. He followed that up with an even worse 3.80 GAA and .865 SV% in November. However, in December Reimer looked like a completely different goalie and put up a dominant 2.35 GAA and .932 SV%. Although on the road tonight as the Florida Panthers visit the Detroit Red Wings, this is a great spot for Reimer to put up a big number as the Red Wings struggle to score, sitting 25th in the league in goals for.
Struggling goalie is in a great spot to bounce back.
James Reimer has been quite poor this season in Florida, but tonight he has a good opportunity to bounce back. The Panthers are home to the Detroit Red Wings, a team that is certainly playing above their skill level. Detroit is expected, and likely will, finish in the bottom 5 of the NHL, so they should be falling back down to earth soon. Although Reimer's numbers this season are not good (3.47 goals against average and .904 save percentage), his career numbers are obviously better. He has a career 9.15 save percentage, which is good, but his goals against average isn't great at 2.76. He has played on a lot of bad Leafs teams that gave up a lot of shots, so the numbers make sense. I like the Panthers to pick up the win tonight, and if Reimer is on his game, he could rack up the saves and put up a solid score you need for a tournament.
