Jason Smith Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections
Pat Connaughton (knee), Geogre Hill, and Jason Smith listed available to play Sunday
Connaughton has officially been upgraded from probable and will be available to play in Sunday's matchup against the Toronto Raptors despite dealing with a knee injury, while both Hill and Smith will be available to make their Bucks debut following a three-team trade that sent Matthew Dellavedova and John Henson to the Cleveland Cavaliers, respectively. Unfortunately, for the remaining members of the Bucks bench, neither Dellavedova or Henson were integral parts of the rotation due to injury or coach's decision. This means that Hill and possibly even Smith will begin to siphon playing time away from the likes of Tony Snell, Donte DiVincenzo, and Sterling Brown, the latter likely being relegated from the rotation entirely once Hill is up to speed with his new team.
Ian Mahinmi (back) out Wednesday; Jason Smith will start
Mahinmi has officially been downgraded from questionable to out and won't play in Wednesday's matchup against the Golden State Warriors due to back spasms. With Dwight Howard still sidelined with a piriformis ailment, it'll be Jason Smith that draws the start at center in their place. However, expect Smith to be a starter in name only since the likelihood this game goes small for extended stretches is extremely high. Head coach Scott Brooks has continued to emphasize his desire to utilize more lineups with Markieff Morris at center, and there aren't many better matchups in the NBA than Golden State to test out these small-ball combinations. Should the game flow play out this way, Kelly Oubre and Jeff Green are likely to see an uptick in minutes, while Otto Porter will spend considerably more time at power forward, increasing his rebounding opportunities and ultimately raising his projected fantasy output.
Otto Porter (illness) ruled out Wednesday; Jason Smith will start in his place
Porter has been ruled out and won't play in tonight's game against the Phoenix Suns after previously being listed in the Washington Wizards' game notes as questionable with a stomach virus. In his absence, Jason Smith will start at power forward alongside Marcin Gortat, meaning Kelly Oubre will now primarily man the small forward position with Porter sidelined. With Markieff Morris serving his one-game suspension stemming from an incident in last Friday's game against the Golden State Warriors and not set to make his season debut until Friday, the Wizards will be slightly thin at the four spot and Smith along with Mike Scott should be expected absorb a majority of Porter's minutes this evening. Scott has actually been playing ahead of Smith in the rotation of late and may end up being a sneaky tournament option if the masses gravitate towards Smith as a value option, as they probably will.
Jason Smith (shoulder) ruled out Monday, still considered day-to-day
Smith has officially been ruled out and will not play in tonight's game against the Denver Nuggets after previously being listed as questionable with a sore right shoulder that has now forced him to miss two consecutive games. Before his injury, Smith had already been starting for the injured Markieff Morris at power forward, meaning that the Wizards are will remain extremely thin at that position with Smith unavailable again Monday night. In his absence, Kelly Oubre will remain in the starting lineup alongside Otto Porter, who will now see a majority of his playing time at the four spot, Porter and Oubre very intriguing daily fantasy tournament options on Monday's slate in a matchup with an uptempo Nuggets squad.
Jason Smith (sore shoulder) questionable for Monday
Smith has been listed as questionable for tomorrow's game against the Denver Nuggets with a sore right shoulder that forced him to miss the Washington Wizards' previous game. Smith underwent an MRI on Thursday and it exhibited no structural damage to his right shoulder. Smith had already been starting for the injured Markieff Morris at power forward, meaning that the Wizards are will remain extremely thin at that position should Smith be unavailable again Monday night. In his absence, Kelly Oubre will likely remain in the starting lineup alongside Otto Porter, who will now see a majority of his playing time at the four spot, making him and Oubre very intriguing daily fantasy options on Monday's slate if Smith is sidelined.
Jason Smith (shoulder) ruled out Friday; Kelly Oubre will start in his place
Smith will not play in tonight's game against the Detroit Pistons after previously being listed as questionable and a game-time decision on the Wizards' injury report with a sore right shoulder. Smith underwent an MRI on Thursday and it exhibited no structural damage to his right shoulder. Smith had already been starting for the injured Markieff Morris at power forward, meaning that the Wizards are now extremely thin at that position with Smith officially unavailable. In his absence, Kelly Oubre will be inserted into the starting lineup alongside Otto Porter, who will now see a majority of his playing time at the four spot, making him and Oubre very intriguing daily fantasy options on Friday's slate.
Jason Smith (shoulder) has no structural damage, likely a GTD for Friday
Smith suffered an injury to his shoulder early in Wednesday's win over the Philadelphia 76ers and is expected to be a game-time decision for Friday's matchup with the Detroit Pistons after an MRI exhibited no structural damage to his right shoulder. Smith had already been starting for the injured Markieff Morris at power forward, meaning that the Wizards would be extremely thin at that position should Smith miss any time. If that's the case, Kelly Oubre would likely be inserted into the starting lineup alongside Otto Porter, who should also be expected to help pick up the slack at the four spot, making him and Oubre very intriguing daily fantasy options if Smith is ruled out Friday.
Jason Smith confirmed as starter for Markieff Morris (sports hernia) Wednesday
As expected, Smith has been confirmed as the Washington Wizards starting power forward for their season opener against the Philadelphia 76ers, filling in for the injured Markieff Morris, who is expected to miss 6-8 weeks recovering from sports hernia surgery. Smith is expected to share time at the four with Otto Porter and Kelly Oubre but will definitely see enough of a bump in minutes to be considered as a salary saver in tournaments in what should still be a plus matchup against a revamped Sixers squad.
Jason Smith (calf) will play tonight
After exiting Game 5 early with a calf injury, Smith was a game-time decision for tonight's meeting with the Hawks. He's been given medical clearance to play though, so he'll be available to come off the bench in Game 6. He's been able to pick up some extra minutes in this series with Markieff Morris in constant foul trouble, but if Morris can prevent that from happening again, Smith will likely play around 15 minutes or so. Marcin Gortat will probably be in the low 30s minute-wise, unless Morris is in trouble, he played 39 in Game 5 as a result of Smith's injury and Morris' fouls. With Smith questionable, Bojan Bogdanovic had become an interesting value play as the Wizards would have gone small at times, but he takes a downgrade with Smith available to play.
Jason Smith (calf) remains a game-time decision Friday
After exiting Game 5 early, Smith was a full participant in shootaround this morning, but he's considered a game-time decision. Although he's not a strong option himself, his absence would open up extra playing time for Bojan Bogdanovic, who picked up 24 minutes last game and turned them into 24.4 FD points. It marked the third consecutive game he scored in double-digits, and he's separated himself from Kelly Oubre in terms of playing time. Over the past three games when Markieff Morris was in foul trouble, Washington went small and played Bojan and Otto Porter together for around seven minutes per game and they've used Morris at center for some of that time. Should Smith miss and Morris stay out of foul trouble - he's had five for three games in a row - we could see more of that small ball lineup. Porter and Morris are both in play as it is, but would have improved outlooks without Smith while Bojan would become a stronger value play. Smith's absence would also increase Marcin Gortat's expected workload as well, he received 39 minutes last game.
