Utah Jazz injury report for Friday
George Hill is doubtful for the Jazz on Friday while Rodney Hood, Derrick Favors, Raul Neto, and Jeff Withey are all listed as questionable. Hill has been out nearly two weeks but doubtful is an upgrade from his previous designation of out. If he can't go it'll once again be Shelvin Mack and Dante Exum manning the point. Favors hasn't played in nearly a month but went through a partial practice and appears as if he will return in the near future. Hood continues to battle a knee injury and if he can't go, Joe Ingles will again benefit. We'll update you on the status of all these players tomorrow when more information comes in.
Rudy Gobert a game-time decision for Utah tonight
Gobert missed the teams last game and was expected to have a MRI over the weekend but the results from that have not come back. However, Gobert stated this weekend that he was expecting to play and is listed as questionable. The team will make another evaluation later tonight and we'll update you once we have a final determination on his playing status. Jeff Withey would likely get the start at center if Gobert can not suit up. He's not a viable DFS option, even at minimum price and as a starter.
Rudy Gobert (leg) ruled out today; Jeff Withey will start at center
Gobert is a late scratch from the Jazz lineup for today's game against the Oklahoma City Thunder due to a sore right leg despite never appearing on the Jazz injury report at any point during the day. Jeff Withey will draw the start at center in his absence and should be a popular punt option on the early slate even considering the difficult individual matchup with Steven Adams and the tHunder frontcourt. With George Hill officially cleared to play, he will start at his normal point guard spot, which sends Dante Exum back to the bench to resume his reserve role. Joe Johnson started in place of injured Derrick Favors last time out and will get the starting nod once again in Favors' absence. Johnson saw 32 minutes of action in his previous start, so for a low price tag on both FanDuel and DraftKings, he is now one of the better value options on the early slate at a typically shallow small forward position.
Jazz starters: Mack, Hood, Hayward, Lyles, Withey
Trey Lyles will replace Derrick Favors and Jeff Withey will replace Rudy Gobert. Both Lyles and Withey have some nice upside against the Lakers but expect Gordon Hayward and Rodney Hood to take all the shots. Lyles has some tournament appeal having scored 30+ fpts in two out of his last three starts.
Rudy Gobert (knee) available to play on Thursday with a minutes restriction; will not start
Rudy Gobert is on the active roster tonight but will be limited if he does play. Jeff Withey will continue to start and should be able to play about 28 minutes tonight. Withey is still a good option tonight but his salary has risen considerably. Withey should be considered a GPP only option tonight. With Gobert likely to start in the next game this marks the top of Withey's value.
Derrick Favors likely to miss the next 2 games
Derrick Favors did not travel with the team for their two-game road trip, making it likely that he is out. The Jazz face San Antonio on Wednesday and Houston on Thursday. Rudy Gobert did travel with the team and has been warming up with the team before games. No official status has been given on his return. If Gobert ends up playing that would hamper the value of Jeff Withey and Trey Lyles. If Gobert does not play Withey and Lyles will both start, but will be risky plays against the Spurs.
Derrick Favors ruled out Thursday
The Jazz have ruled out Derrick Favors for tonight's contest against the Blazers. Jeff Withey will be starting in his place and makes for a great punt option. Withey has been playing well and should easily be able to exceed value tonight. Look for Mason Plumlee to also have a solid game due to Withey's lack of defense.
Derrick Favors (back) out again tonight
The Jazz have ruled out Derrick Favors again tonight even though he did travel with the team. Look for Jeff Withey to get another start in his place. Withey played well and had 35.5 FPs on DK in his last start, so there is a chance for him to produce again. If you need another value option to stack multiple studs, Withey makes for a solid play and should be able to secure at least 24 minutes of action. Withey is averaging 25 FPs on DK in his last three games replacing Favors, so the ability to hit value is definitely there.
Derrick Favors (back) questionable Wednesday
Derrick Favors is still nursing a sore back and remains questionable for Wednesday's contest. Jeff Withey will likely draw another start in his place, and actually had a strong game last night against the Sixers (11 points, 12 rebounds, 2 blocks, and 2 steals). It should be taken with a grain of salt due to the matchup, but still his price remains at $3,500 on DK and he could be a solid punt option. Additionally, due to Withey not being as good of a defender as Favors, Karl-Anthony Towns would be in a plus matchup with Favors out.
Jeff Withey to start for the injured Derrick Favors
Jeff Withey will make another start for the injured Derrick Favors and makes for a solid late swap option at C tonight. He is only $3,300 on DraftKings and has a ceiling of about 20 FPs. If you did not go with any of the big name centers playing tonight, Withey can help you stack Warriors in the late slate.
