Jesse James Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections

CHI WR Allen Robinson, TE Jesse James, RB Ryan Nall, and WR Isaiah Coulter placed on COVID list

Allen Robinson, Jesse James, Ryan Nall, and Isaiah Coulter have all been placed on the COVID list ahead of their Monday night matchup with the Minnesota Vikings. With Robinson likely out Darnell Mooney will be the top receiver for the Bears and will need to be considered as on of the better options on the showdown slate. With Jesse James likely unavailable, the bulk of the tight end snaps should be handled by Cole Kmet and Jimmy Graham. Ryan Nall would only be used as an emergency running back so his potential absence is not DFS relevant at this time. Isaiah Coulter would have served as receiver depth so his absence also would not be DFS relevant.

Lions Placing T.J. Hockenson (Ankle) on IR

Hockenson's rookie season is officially over, as the Lions are placing him on injured reserve with an ankle injury. He started the season strong but struggled after Week 1, gaining more than 32 yards just twice in his final 11 games. Although he didn't miss a game, Hockenson did have multiple injuries limit him this season. Jesse James and Logan Thomas should take on more work at TE.

T.J. Hockenson is Active Thursday

The Lions are healthy outside of QB. T.J. Hockenson is active, giving David Blough all of his offensive weapons. It will still likely be a tough day for Blough vs the Bears.

T.J. Hockenson (Shoulder, Head) Won't Be Placed on IR

Hockenson was injured Week 5. We haven't gotten a significant update, with Adam Schefter simply reporting that Hockenson won't go on IR. Look for a better update on the Wednesday injury report. Hockenson has cooled off, with 5 catches for 35 yards total for the last three weeks, compared to 6 catches for 131 yards Week 1. Jesse James and Logan Thomas would see increased usage if Hockenson is out.

Vance McDonald questionable for Sunday

McDonald did not play in Week 1, but appears likely to return to action in Week 2. Jesse James and Xavier Grimble ate up the TE snaps against Cleveland, but neither player really produced much in the way of fantasy totals. James and McDonald will be vying for targets behind Brown and Smith-Schuster, with James Conner also likely to be more involved as a receiver. The Pittsburgh TEs are nothing more than GPP dart throws.

TE Vance McDonald practices in full; expects to play Sunday

McDonald was expected to be the Steelers’ featured tight end before an ankle injury kept him out in Week 1. He went off for 116 yards in last year's final playoff game against Jacksonville so the upside is certainly there against a putrid Chiefs secondary that may be without S Eric Berry. However, Antonio Brown and JuJu Smith-Schuster will remain QB Ben Roethlisberger's favorite targets and there's a chance McDonald could initially be eased in coming off injury, so the floor is low. Assuming McDonald plays, fellow TE Jesse James can be safely ignored for DFS purposes.

TE Vance McDonald is OUT for Week 1; Jesse James will start at tight end

TE Vance McDonald is OUT for the Browns game - Jesse James will start at tight end. McDonald was considered a solid sleeper due to the talent and matchup this week but that ship has sailed this week. Cleveland has been ravaged by TEs the last two seasons so Jesse James is in the mix for cheap TE options Week 1.

Vance McDonald and RT Marcus Gilbert ruled out for Week 8

DL Stephon Tuitt was ruled out earlier this week. It'll be his second straight absence due to a back injury. He's a huge part of the Steelers pass rush. He's PFF's fourth-ranked interior defender in the area while Tyson Alualu, who'll pick up more snaps again this week, checks in at 102nd. Fortunately, they'll still have Cameron Hayward, who's second at his position with 31 total pressures and five sacks. He should be able to maintain his production against a Lions offensive line that ranks 29th in pass blocking efficiency. McDonald's absence will open up more snaps for Jesse James and Xavier Grimble. After opening the season with six receptions and pair of touchdowns, James hasn't caught more than three balls and hasn't scored once. The tight end hasn't even logged a target for the past two games. Fortunately for him, the Lions are 27th in TE DVOA and allowing the seventh-most yards to the position. Even so, Roethlisberger will probably send the vast majority of his passes to Antonio Brown, Le'Veon Bell, and JuJu Smith-Schuster, limiting James' fantasy appeal.

A Big Red-Zone Threat With Multi-TD Potential

Last year, the Ravens were pretty darn good vs. the TE spot. This year? Not so much. Currently on the year, Baltimore is ranked dead last in terms of DVOA versus tight ends. Jesse James has been relatively quiet since his breakout spot in Week 1, but if the numbers this year (especially last week's explosion for Marcedes Lewis) are any indicator, James could be in store for a big game. He is near min priced this week and has the potential to be a red-zone monster. The Ravens have given up four touchdowns to TEs so far this season, and with Roethlisberger's road struggles over the last few seasons and the Ravens' good secondary and D line potentially causing problems, the QB could rely more heavily on the TE in this matchup (particularly in the red zone). This is a low floor, high ceiling play from a PT/$ perspective and could help you take down a GPP this weekend.

Steelers DE Stephon Tuitt (biceps) and LB T.J. Watt (groin) had full practices Wednesday, Jesse James (shoulder) was limited

Both defensive players are expected to play against the Ravens this Sunday while James is questionable. The tight end banged up his shoulder this past Sunday but was able to finish the game. Still, he was limited today and Pittsburgh plans to keep an eye on him in practice all week. If he can't suit up this weekend, it would elevate Vance McDonald to the starting lineup against the Ravens. Over the past two weeks, the Browns and the Jaguars both used their tight ends quite a bit against Baltimore's stout secondary. Marcedes Lewis hauled in three touchdown grabs in London and in Week 2, Seth DeValve and David Njoku combined for a 5/8/88/1 line. James has been quiet since opening the season with two scores on the Browns, being limited to 27 yards or fewer in each of the past two games. It's possible he sees his usage rise a bit in this matchup if he plays. On the defensive side of things, Tuitt's and Watt's presence will be a boost for their pass rush. In 2016, Tuitt led their interior defenders with 46 pressures, which was 14th in the league at his position, per PFF. The rookie Watt forced four pressures in the first two weeks, including a pair of sacks.
