Field Update at Wyndham Championship
Tuesday afternoon field movement includes both Jhonattan Vegas and Seung-Yul Noh deciding to take the week off. They will be replaced in the field by David Lingmerth and Robert Garrigus. Projections and POWN will be updated soon to reflect the changes.
Jhonattan Vegas is no longer in the field
Jhonattan Vegas is no longer in the RSM Classic field. He has been replaced by Tommy " Two Gloves " Gainey. At this time there is no injury news associated with Vegas, we will add Gainey to LineupHQ once he gets assigned a salary.
Jhonattan Vegas gaining steam as a value play
Playing in his first event after taking a month off to rest from a busy schedule Jhonattan Vegas is starting to gain steam as a value option for the week. Currently ranked in the 70th position in the FedEx Cup standings, Vegas is having a very good 2019 season. Ranked inside the top 30 in both DK points and strokes gained of players in this field Vegas feels a bit underpriced in comparison to his competition. With 7 top 30 or better finishes this season, Vegas has more than enough upside to pay off his price tag for the week. Already up almost 4 % in projected ownership since the start of the week, but still under 10% in projected ownership Vegas makes sense in all formats for the week.
Big Hitter a good fit at lengthy Bethpage Black
It’s great to project course fit but sometimes it’s best to just go straight to the course. Back in 2016, Vegas said this about Bethpage Black, “I love it to be honest. It’s a super challenging golf course. No matter where you are, you get really hard shots around here. It tests you mentally, which is the biggest thing here. I like it. I love it. It’s my type of course. I’m having a good time.” He went on to finish T22 that week. This time around he arrives with some of the best ball-striking form in the field. He’s gained 23.4 strokes tee-to-green over the last 3 months which ranks 15th in the field over that time frame. Only five golfers have gained more total strokes over that time. Good form mixed with a love of the course should produce fireworks.
Jhonattan Vegas facing logistical issues ahead of The British Open
Multiple PGA Tour winner Jhonattan Vegas took to Twitter this afternoon providing an update to his status for this week's British Open. Vegas appears to have both passport and travel issues in front of him as he prepares for The Open. According to Vegas, his passport is late arriving, and the weather out of New York could delay his flight. Even though he is currently not projected to be a popular play for this week's event, it's worth keeping an eye on his status moving forward, and we will provide an additional news as it becomes available.
Jhonattan Vegas is trending as a top value play
Jhonattan Vegas is projected to be one of the higher picks in terms of PT/$K in the FanDuel RotoGrinders Player projection tool. Vegas came out of nowhere earlier this season to claim his third career victory at the RBC Canadian Open. Known as somewhat of a streaky player, Vegas has the ability to get hot out of nowhere. Prior to his victory at the RBC Canadian Open, Vegas had missed five consecutive cuts. Currently ranked 10th in the FedEx Cup standings Vegas comes into this week on the heels of a third place finish at the Northern Trust. Rostering Vegas does not come with out risk, but the combination of his affordable price and potential upside makes Vegas a great GPP play option this week. Vegas has made the cut in his two previous attempts at The Dell Technologies Championship.
