Johan Camargo Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections
Josh Donaldson (calf) scratched Tuesday; Johan Camargo replaces
Donaldson has been scratched from the Atlanta Braves original confirmed lineup and will not start in Tuesday’s matchup against the San Diego Padres due to a sore right calf. He’ll be replaced in the lineup by Johan Camargo, who will now play third base and slot into the sixth spot in the order, which bumps Dansby Swanson all the way up to the two-hole, respectively. However, the remainder of the Braves lineup will stay intact offensively as they face off against right-hander Christopher Paddack at home this evening.
Cheap Power
Margevicius has been really good against righties in his short time in the Majors, but that's not going to stop me from stacking the Braves tonight. Johan Camargo is really cheap on FanDuel, and one of my favorite value plays on this slate. Since the start of 2018, he has a .216 ISO with a .344 wOBA and a 39.8% hard-hit rate. According to the MLB WeatherEdge tool, this game also has the best weather on this slate.
Braves are a Solid Non-Coors Stack Tonight
The Braves face off against Sandy Alcantara tonight with an implied total of 4.8. Alcantara is a talented fireballer who has not yet put it together in his young career. His MiLB numbers leave a lot to be desired for a guy that averages 96 MPH on his fastball. Alcantara had just a 6.85 K/9 with a 4.65 xFIP in the minors last year and then posted an ugly 5.16 xFIP and 4.8% K-BB in his 34 inning big league stint. Also working against Alcantara tonight is umpire Andy Fletcher who is extremely hitter friendly. Freddie Freeman (.392 xwOBA vs. RHP last year), Ronald Acuna (.363) and Nick Markakis (.363) are solid ATL bats to build around. Dansby Swanson (.280) struggled last year but has been hot so far in 2019 with a .396 xwOBA and comes at a very affordable price. Johan Camargo (.301) is giving Josh Donaldson a breather at 3B and comes at an affordable price as well.
Glad He's In The Lineup
We have very little value on DraftKings tonight. I really like that Johan Camargo is in the lineup for the Braves tonight. I respect Jon Lester, but the Braves have a lot of upside against him tonight. Camargo was really good from the right-side of the plate in 2018. He had a .213 ISO with a .354 wOBA against left-handed pitchers. Lester relies on his fastball a lot against right-handed hitters, and we saw Camargo tee-off on fastballs in 2018.
I Like This Stat For Home Runs
Atlanta has been really good against right-handed pitching this season, and one name that stands out because of his price is Johan Camargo. He has a .224 ISO with a .365 wOBA and a .406 CXwOBA against left-handed pitching this season. He also has a very good 323.9 average air distance against lefties. I always like looking at this stat when I'm searching for cheaper home runs. Vargas is a fly ball/ground ball neutral pitcher, but he has struggled with right-handed hitters. He has a .379 wOBA with a .242 ISO against righties this season.
A value play and a potentially under the radar one
Johan Camargo (119 wRC+, .234 ISO vs LHP this season) moves up to the second spot in the order for the Braves against Mike Montgomery and is the value play in this Atlanta lineup for less than $4K. A modest 4.5 run line is good enough for fifth best on the board for the Braves. Montgomery doesn't have much of a platoon split and keeps batters from either side of the plate on the ground over 50% of the time, but xwOBA has batters from either side of the plate above .330 against him and Freddie Freeman (154 wRC+, .246 ISO) has been tearing up same-handed pitching this year. He's a reasonable $4.2K on DK tonight. The value play and the sneaky power play would make a nice mini-stack with Ronald Acuna (136 wRC+, .270 ISO) at the top of this lineup.
Johan Camargo scratched Wednesday; Charlie Culberson replaces
Camargo has been scratched from the Atlanta Braves original confirmed lineup and will not start in Wednesday’s matchup against the Miami Marlins due to a presently unspecified reason. He’ll be replaced in the lineup by Charlie Culberson, who will play third base and slot directly into Camargo’s vacated fifth spot in the order. However, the remainder of the Braves lineup will stay intact as they face off against right-hander Jose Urena at home this evening.
Smoke and Mirrors
Trevor Richards has put together a string of five 17+ DK pt starts but outside of his first game against Philadelphia he did a terrible job of generating soft contact during that span. In the other four games, Richards gave up a hard-hit rate of 41.5% and allowed a ton of flyballs (46.2%). Richards strong recent fantasy performance combined with a large 14-game slate should lead to fairly low Braves ownership outside of Freeman and Acuna. They should be a "sneaky" stack despite a team implied run total of 5+ runs.
Surprising Lefty-Masher In This Braves Lineup
It might be going under the radar this season, but Johan Camargo has been a fantastic player for the Braves. The team loved him so much that they released Jose Bautista earlier this season and handed him the full-time third base job. He hasn't disappointed, and continues to rake against lefties. Against southpaws, he's batting .293 with a .913 OPS and six home runs. He'll have the benefit of facing lefty Wade Miley today, who has been solid this season. Camargo isn't a core play, but I have some interest in him in tournaments whenever he faces a left-handed starter because of how wide his splits have been.
Worst split on the board belongs to Matt Harvey against LHBs
Matt Harvey is coming off his best start in a long time against the Cubs of all teams (6 IP – 2 ER – 1 BB – 6 K – 25 BF), but he has massive issues with LHBs since the start of last season (.409 wOBA, .414 xwOBA, 38.6 Hard%, 34.7 GB%). It's the worst split on the board among those with more than three starts. This seems simple enough. The Braves start their order with four batters ranging from average to great against RHBs and have the fourth highest implied run line on the board (4.96). Freddie Freeman (138 wRC+, .215 ISO vs RHP last calendar year and Ozzie Albies (108 wRC+, .205 ISO), who is suddenly red hot over the last week again (204 wRC+, 58.6 Hard%), can be complimented with Ender Inciarte (102 wRC+, .128 ISO) and Nick Markakis (109 wRC+, .126 ISO), who are a tad pricey for guys who don't provide much power, but lefties are just in such a great spot against Harvey. Cheaper exposure can be had with Johan Camargo (97 wRC+, .134 ISO), further down the lineup.
