Brandon Belt (sore knee) scratched Saturday; Kelby Tomlinson replaces
Belt has been scratched from the San Francisco Giants original confirmed lineup and will not start in Saturday’s matchup against the Milwaukee Brewers due to left knee soreness. He’ll be replaced in the lineup by Kelby Tomlinson, who will play second base and slot directly into Belt’s vacated eighth second in the order, which does shift Chase d'Arnaud over to first base defensively. However, the remainder of the Giants lineup will stay intact offensively as they face off against left-hander Gio Gonzalez on the road this evening.

Clayton Richard struck out eight of 28 Rockies last time out and has allowed just three ERs in 30 innings over five starts, two of them in his first. He has just a 10.7 K-BB%, but a 68.5 GB% and -2.3 Hard-Soft% in those starts. He’s probably not going to improve his peripherals here either. The Giants just a 6.8 K-BB% at home and a 17.9 K% vs LHP. The contact domination certainly plays in one of the most difficult run environments in baseball though, where the Giants have just a 26.5 Hard% and 7.4 HR/FB. We don't even have to admit that Clayton Richard might be decent to see that just $4.7K on DraftKings is entirely too low in this spot. The Giants will sit Belt and Span tonight in an attempt to take advantage of Richard's platoon split. RHBs have a .338 wOBA against him since last year with LHBs nearly 70 points lower, but they are not being replaced with formidable RHBs aside from perhaps Kelby Tomlinson (143 wRC+ vs LHP since 2015), who adds absolutely no power. Hunter Pence (120 wRC+, .241 ISO vs LHP since 2015) is on fire (312 wRC+ over the last week), but costs nearly $5K on DraftKings. There's little interest in the Giants offense considering the environment and type of contact Richard has been generating.
Sunday special: Kelby Tomlinson batting second at Coors Field
Kelby Tomlinson will get an opportunity to bat second at Coors Field, facing opposing LHP Chris Rusin. Tomlinson is playing because regulars are getting a rest day, but he should not be overlooked. Kelby has a 154 wRC+ against LHP and although he does not have any power, his 0.425 OBP makes him well worth consideration batting at the top of a lineup in Colorado.

Drew Pomeranz has struck out 11 of 47 Giants, but lasted just 10.1 innings over two recent starts against the Giants, including his worst of the year less than a month ago. It's always a little concerning when a good offense sees a pitcher this many times in a short span, especially one that strikes out so infrequently (17.6% vs LHP), but Pomeranz has been very good this year (1.96 ERA, 3.49 SIERA, 30.3 K%, 12.5 SwStr%) and a bit of a weakened lineup with out Hunter Pence (and Joe Panik vs the lefty) keeps him in play for $9K or less tonight. Additionally, the Giants bats have been struggling (72 wRC+ last seven days), but Buster Posey has 146 wRC+ vs LHP since last season and comes at a reduced cost tonight ($3.5K). He has just a 95 wRC+, but 52.6 Hard% over the last week. The potential value play here might be Kelby Tomlilnson (159 wRC+ vs LHP since 2015) batting 2nd for less than $3K. Angel Pagan (110 wRC+ vs LHP since 2015) moves up to 5th tonight.

50% of the batters Jacob deGrom will face will be right-handed swingers today with Matt Duffy, Buster Posey, Hunter Pence and Kelby Tomlinson all in the Giants lineup on Saturday. deGrom posted a 27.8 K% vs RHB in 2015, while allowing a meager 0.209 wOBA.
