Logan Forsythe Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections

Logan Forsythe (intercostal) scratched Tuesday; Isiah Kiner-Falefa replaces

Forsythe has been scratched from the Texas Rangers original confirmed lineup and will not start in Tuesday’s matchup against the Tampa Bay Rays due to left intercostal tightness. He’ll be replaced in the lineup Isiah Kiner-Falefa, who will now handle the designated hitter duties and slot directly into Forsythe’s vacated seventh spot in the order. However, the remainder of the Rangers lineup will stay intact offensively as they face off against left-hander Ryan Yarbrough at home this evening.

Rangers are an intriguing stack vs. Berrios

Normally a guy to avoid when choosing hitters, there are a few reasons it might be wise to get some exposure to Rangers’ bats tonight. Already very hitter-friendly Globe Life Park projects to see a further increase in overall offense per WeatherEdge. Jose Berrios has some wide splits that we can target, one of which being his home-road split. Since 2017, Berrios has a 2.93 ERA, 20% K-BB and .277 xwOBA allowed in home games, compared to a 4.44 ERA, 13.6% K-BB and .316 xwOBA in road games. He is also much worse versus lefties; he has a 18.8% K-BB and .280 xwOBA allowed vs. righties compared to a 14.5% K-BB and .315 xwOBA vs. lefties. The Rangers have 5 lefties in their projected lineup for tonight’s matchup at home: Shin-Soo Choo (.378 xwOBA vs. RHP this year), Nomar Mazara (.354), Danny Santana (.344), Willie Calhoun (.320) and Rougned Odor (.307). Logan Forsythe (.363) and Elvis Andrus (.303) are also potential options, but will not have the platoon advantage versus Berrios. Given the hitting environment, Rangers’ hitters are pretty cheap as Choo, Andrus, Mazara, Odor and Forsythe are all $4.1k or less on Draftkings, while Calhoun is $4.4k and Santana is $4.7k. Also working in Rangers’ hitters favor is a hitter-friendly umpire in Paul Hoberg. They currently have a 5.20 implied line vs. Berrios and the Twins.

Rangers in a nice spot at home vs. Indians’ Plutko

Adam Plutko has a 4.63 ERA / 5.20 xFIP and 4.91 SIERA with a 15.2% K-BB and 50.7% FB rate over 23 1/3 innings on the year. Plutko has done some things well this year, including just a 3.3% BB rate and 29.6% hard contact rate, but is ultimately a 5.21 ERA / 5.45 xFIP pitcher over 104 innings at the MLB level and projects as a roughly 5.50 ERA guy going forward according to projection systems. The Rangers are lacking some pop without Joey Gallo and Hunter Pence in the lineup but still have a decent amount of pop vs. right-handers even without them. Shin-Soo Choo (.386 xwOBA vs. RHP this year), Logan Forsythe (.374), Nomar Mazara (.352), Elvis Andrus (.310), Delino Deshields (.304) and Rougned Odor (.289) are all solid options tonight in hitter-friendly Globe Life Park. Odor got off to a miserable start this year but has been a bit better recently with a .332 xwOBA over the past 2 weeks. With the exception of Andrus ($4.9k) and Choo ($5k) all Rangers bats can be had for $4.4k or less on Draftkings despite a healthy 5.34 implied total tonight.

Finding A Punt Play

This is also a slate where we are starved for some great value options, and we can get Logan Forsythe as a potential value on all DFS sites today. He had a great game yesterday and will likely hit second in the Texas lineup today against a lefty. He’s nothing special, but his career .340 wOBA and .170 ISO against LHP are better than what you will normally find in a punt value. If you want to fit elite pitching and Boston bats into your cash game lineups this evening, you will find that Forsythe helps out an awful lot in that endeavor. Just make sure he is in the lineup, though I do expect him to be against a lefty (and he is guaranteed to be if Andrus is still out).

A Low Cost Risk/Reward Stack

There's no getting around the fact that the Twins have been awful against left-handed pitching all year. This is more about their matchup tonight and their price tags than anything. Grossman, Polanco, and Forsythe should all be in the top four in the batting order against Francisco Liriano, and they are all dirt cheap. We all know that Liriano can implode on a moment's notice, too. Fire up this cheap stack in GPP's and grab basically anyone else you want in the rest of your lineup.

Nice Batted Ball Profile

It has been a rough year for Logan Forsythe, but I'm willing to take a shot at him tonight at this price tag. He's projected to hit leadoff against Daniel Norris, and while his numbers are down this year, he's always been an above average hitter against left-handed pitching. Norris has a .338 wOBA with a .225 ISO against right-handed hitters this season, while allowing 50.8% fly balls and 44.4% hard contact. Forsythe's contact rate is at 85% over the last 30 days. In this matchup at this price, he's a top value play on this slate.

Another Day, Another Free Square

There's few things in life I hate doing more than writing up Forsythe, but I find myself doing it nearly every day. DK for some reason refuses to up his price to an even moderately reasonable level. I get that he hasn't been great, but anytime you can get a guy hitting in the middle of a lineup going against a bad pitcher for under 3k, you don't think too much and you just lock him in in cash. This is an easy call. Junis is a below average pitcher pitching in a decent pitchers park, but it's gonna be warm enough to negate this. Now, stop reading this and just throw him in already.

Still Way Too Darn Cheap

I pretty much have to keep playing Forsythe and write him up every week, because DK just seems to hate raising his price. His numbers on the season are by no means fantastic, but the guy is still a pretty decent hitter and is batting in the middle of the lineup. He gets a matchup today against Kennedy who is not a great pitcher, doesn't K a ton of guys, gives up a huge amount of fly ball's and hard contact, and it's pretty decent hitting conditions over in KC today. This is simply a don't overthink it cash game spot here that allows you to get in some high priced bats and pitching.

Most Owned Hitter

Yesterday I wrote that Logan Forsythe was likely my most owned player over the last week and a half. Well, I rostered Forsythe's zero yesterday and I'll be going back to the well on Sunday as he remains too cheap for the matchup, his spot in the order, and his average offensive skill-set. Forsythe certainly isn't a flashy option but he's a great way to save salary which will allow you spend your money either at SP1 or heavy hitters.

Just way too cheap

I get sucked into this trap way too often and today is going to be no different. Forsythe is the cheapest viable guy by a long shot on the slate today and although we only owns a .309 wOBA vs. RHP on the year, thats more than enough to justify his price considering that he will likely be batting 4th in the lineup and is facing Kennedy who owns a 43.5% FB rate and a 38.8% hard contact rate. You are unlikely to get a bomb out of Forsythe, but this is just a plus matchup for an average MLB hitter who is priced way too low. If you need some salary savings on this slate, Forsythe is one of the best PT/$ plays.
