Marcus Thornton waived by Brooklyn

The Brooklyn Nets have waived Marcus Thornton whom they acquired on Wednesday in a trade with the Wizards. The Nets also acquired K.J. McDaniels and likely needed the roster spot. McDaniels is a nice addition to the Nets but lacks offensive polish. Marcus Thornton will head to the waiver wire and hope to be scooped up by a team in contention for a title. With New Orleans also looking for a guard, there is a slight chance they look to acquire his services.

Washington Wizards acquire Bojan Bogdanovich from Brooklyn Nets

Over the All Star break, the Washington Wizards moved Andrew Nicholson, Marcus Thornton, and a lottery-protected 2017 first round pick to the Brooklyn Nets in return for Bojan Bogdanovich and Chris McCullough. The veteran guard/forward should step right in as a key contributor for the Wizards although he'll be hard-pressed to reach the nearly 30 minutes of playing time he had been getting over the past three weeks for Brooklyn - his value in DFS takes a dramatic hit due to the change in teams.

Bradley Beal OUT tonight; John Wall will play

Beal isn't quite ready to return to action with his injured hamstring and will sit out the Wizards game tonight against the 76ers. Marcus Thornton will likely get the start and is in play going against a Philly team that is 2nd to last in SG DvP. Good news for the Wizards is PG John Wall will play - he'll be a top option at his position as well.

Bradley Beal (hamstring) ruled out for Friday; Marcus Thornton starting in his place

Beal will miss tonight's game against Cleveland with a hamstring issue that caused him to exit early in Wednesday's game versus the Celtics. Thornton will get the start at shooting guard in his absence. Thornton is now in line to see starter's minutes in the 30-35 minute range, and is in play as a tournament option for his low price around the industry. This also a slight boost to the usage of Otto Porter and Markieff Morris in the starting unit, though the viability of Porter depends on just how much chalk you are willing to eat in large-field tournaments for a traditionally volatile player.

Bradley Beal questionable for tonight's game

Beal had an MRI that revealed no structural damage and he has been listed by the Wizards as questionable for their game tonight against the Cavaliers. He's a risky, inconsistent option with a tough match up so he's not a viable DFS option. If he is unable to go, however, it could open up minutes for Tomas Satoransky and Marcus Thornton - both of whom could be reasonable (but not great) value options.

Bradley Beal (hamstring) questionable for Friday

Bradley Beal had to exit last night's game early due to an injured hamstring. An MRI came back showing no structural damage, so there is a chance he plays on Friday against the Cavs. If he misses the game we could see Tomas Satoransky and/or Marcus Thornton could see extended run if Beal misses. The starters would all likely see an increase in usage with John Wall expected to take on a heavier scoring role against the Cavs.

Wizards starters: Sessions, Thornton, Porter, Dudley and Nene.

Ramon Sessions and Marcus Thornton should be considered high-upside tournament plays tonight. Both players will likely play over 30 minutes for the third consecutive game. With the ball being in their hands so much both players have massive upside. Sessions asking price has spiked over $5k on DraftKings making his potential upside a little less. Thornton is still under $4k on DraftKings, making him a nice tournament option.

Wizards starters: Sessions, Thornton, Porter, Dudley, and Gortat on Monday.

The Wizards will replace Beal and Morris with Thornton and Dudley respectively. Thornton should be considered a strong play against his former team. He is coming off a 30.3 fpts game last night and should be able to exceed value with his salary at a minimum across the industry. Dudley started for the Wizards before they acquired Morris so he deserves tournament consideration against the Nets. Dudley has exceeded value four consecutive when he gets 28+ minutes. Expect Dudley to play 28-32 minutes with the Wizards so shorthanded.

Bradley Beal questionable, but not listed as a probable starter

Beal is considered questionable but isn't listed as a probable starter, so there is a good chance he ends up missing tonight's game. The Wizards have been eliminated from playoff contention and given Beal's history with injuries over his short career, it'd be surprising if they took a chance and had him suit up against Brooklyn. Marcus Thornton would become a very nice GPP play if he sits, while Ramon Sessions would also pick up some value. We'll update Beal's status when we have more information.

John Wall (knee) officially ruled out on Wednesday

John Wall will miss his first game of the season against the Nets. Ramon Sessions is expected to start in his place with the Wizards lacking depth at the PG spot. Bradley Beal is expected to see most of the usage. We don't have a huge sample size (14 minutes) but by turning on Sessions, Beal, Porter, Morris, and Gortat in CourtIQ, we see that Beal's usage is 33% compared to 24% with Wall on the court.
