Attack These Bullpens on Tuesday Night

The worst bullpen in baseball over the last 30 days (ERA + FIP + xFIP + SIERA divided by four) belongs to the Arizona Diamondbacks (5.17) and although they travel to a very pitcher friendly park for their series against a banged up Dodger lineup, this is certainly a spot players still want to attack with those who remain healthy and Merrill Kelly (the projected starter) should be no deterrent. While batters from either side of the plate are within three points of a .320 wOBA against him since 2019, Statcast bumps LHBs up to a .361 xwOBA over this span. If Matt Beaty (117 wRC+, .186 ISO vs RHP since 2019 and 189 wRC+ over the last 30 days overall) bats anywhere near the top half of the lineup, he would be a great value at $3.3K on DraftKings or $2.2K on FanDuel.

The Rockies (5.12) aren’t very far behind, though the ERA portion of that (5.54) is likely jacked up a bit by Coors and RHBs only have a .305 wOBA (.308 xwOBA) against Austin Gomber since 2019. San Diego is also a pitcher friendly park. Additionally, the Reds (5.05) are off the board, but the Braves (5.02) are starting Tucker Davidson, a 23 year-old lefty, who has a 21.6 K-BB% through two AAA starts, though FanGraphs projects him with just a 40+ Future Value grade. It feels like Pete Alonso (131 wRC+ last 30 days, 98 mph EV on fly balls and line drives) is the only remaining impact bat in the Mets’ lineup, but he should be worth your daily fantasy dollars in one of the most hitter friendly environments on the slate.

The last bullpen to mention is the Angels (4.97) because along with being one of the more (if not the most) hitter friendly parks on the west coast over the last few years, according to Baseball Savant’s new Park Factors, Andrew Heaney has a career 15.5 HR/FB and has already allowed seven HRs this year. This is actually a spot that justifies some exposure to both sides of this matchup with Heaney’s strikeout rate spiking to 33.6% this year and his cost below $8K on either site, but he still has issues with the long ball when contact is made. Jose Ramirez (137 wRC+, .253 ISO vs LHP since 2019) and Franmil Reyes (113 wRC+, .204 ISO) are the power threats in this lineup and both exceed a 140 wRC+ over the last 30 days.

Peter Lambert has an 8.41 ERA and -2.9% K-BB over the past 30 days

Even for pitching half his games in Coors, Lambert’s numbers are just terrible. On the year, Lambert has put up a 6.98 ERA / 5.23 xFIP / 5.53 SIERA with a 4.7% K-BB, 1.71 WHIP, 38.7% hard contact rate and 7% SwStr. He’s also allowed a .361 xwOBA and 88.7 MPH aEV. He’s been even worse over the past 30 days despite 3 of 5 starts coming away from Coors: 8.41 ERA, 6.39 SIERA, -2.9% K-BB, 2.21 WHIP and .429 xwOBA allowed. Even being at home in pitcher-friendly Dodger Stadium tonight, the Dodgers are in one of the best spots on the slate. Cody Bellinger (.435 xwOBA vs. RHP this year), Max Muncy (.384), Justin Turner (.363), Gavin Lux (.353), Joc Pederson (.350), Matt Beaty (.346), Will Smith (.328), Corey Seager (.327) and AJ Pollock (.326) are all good options tonight in the LAD projected order. Pollock hasn’t been all that great this year, but has really heated up with a .459 xwOBA over the past 2 weeks. Gavin Lux has also seen the ball well with a .395 xwOBA over the past 2 weeks. With the exception of Cody Bellinger ($5.5k) Dodgers’ bats are pretty affordable as they are all available for $4.5k or less on Draftkings. Joc Pederson is projected to leadoff at just $4.2k, Beaty is projected to hit 3rd at $4k, and Lux will bat lower in the order at just $3.7k. They currently have a solid 5.90 implied line vs. Lambert and the Rox.

Each of the first five batters in the Dodger lineup are above a .210 ISO vs RHP this year

Dylan Bundy has been a competent contact manager this season. No…really. He’s allowed 28 HRs in 27 starts and still has a 17.9 HR/FB that’s above average in a power friendly park, but his 30.8% 95+ mph EV and 6.1% Barrels/BBE are both better than average and his .313 xwOBA is 27 points better than actual results and in line with a 4.53 SIERA that’s better than his 5.06 ERA. It still may not be enough against a Dodger lineup that terrorizes RHP (115 wRC+, 10.4 K-BB%, 18 HR/FB). It’s not just Cody Bellinger (168 wRC+, .335 ISO vs RHP) and Joc Pederson (136 wRC+, .318 ISO) either. Matt Beaty (138 wRC+, .241 ISO) moves into the two slot here and looks to be the value play in this lineup. In fact, each of the first five batters in the order are above a .210 ISO vs RHP this year. The Dodgers are the top projected offense on this slate (6.11 runs). Gavin Lux has just a .312 wOBA vs RHP thus far, but a .403 xwOBA and costs within $600 of $3K on either site.

Joc Pederson has a 423 wRC+ with five HRs over the last week

Jeff Samardzija has a 3.61 ERA that’s well below estimators due to a .244 BABIP. He’s generated just 36.3% ground balls with an 89 mph aEV, which has resulted in 8.4% Barrels/BBE. This may play well enough in San Francisco, but it’s unlikely to lead him towards success on the road against the Dodgers (116 wRC+, 10.4 K-BB%, 18.1 HR/FB vs RHP). Samardzija has not yet had the displeasure of facing the Dodgers on the road this season, but his issues with LHBs (.329 wOBA, .344 xwOBA) has to oddsmakers gracing the home team with the third highest implied run line on the board (5.45) currently. The projected lineup for the Dodgers shows five LHBs and aside from Gavin Lux, each of the other four are above a 115 wRC+ and .220 ISO vs RHP over the last calendar year. Dodgers lineup has value and upside at home vs. Samardzija

Samardzija has seemingly put together a solid year with a 3.61 ERA / 4.91 xFIP / 4.81 SIERA and 1.11 WHIP, but he’s been helped a lot by an extremely friendly pitcher’s park in Oracle Park, as well as having very good fortune on balls in play (.244 BABIP this year compared to .290 career BABIP). His Statcast numbers show that he is actually giving up the highest aEV (89 MPH) since Statcast started in 2015. Samardzija has been more vulnerable to lefties, allowing a .344 xwOBA vs. LHP compared to a .292 xwOBA vs. RHB since 2017. Cody Bellinger (.444 xwOBA vs. RHP this year), Joc Pederson (.359), Matt Beaty (.355), Corey Seager (.325) and Gavin Lux (188 wRC+ in AAA over 232 PA this year) are all left-handed bats in the Dodgers’ projected order for tonight. Also in play without the platoon advantage are Justin Turner (.366), Will Smith (.363) and AJ Pollock (.300). At the top of the order, Corey Seager is projected to bat 2nd at just $3.9k on Draftkings, Turner is projected to bat 3rd at just $4.4k and Pollock 5th at just $3.8k. Beaty is projected to hit 6th at $3.9k, and Gavin Lux will cost just $3.3k and will likely bat 8th. Pederson and Bellinger are the only bats over $5k on Draftkings. Alex Verdugo (knee) scratched Thursday; Matt Beaty replaces

Verdugo has been scratched from the Los Angeles Dodgers original confirmed lineup and will not start in Thursday’s matchup against the San Diego Padres due to left knee soreness. He’ll be replaced in the lineup by Matt Beaty, who will now play left field and slot into the eighth spot in the order, which bumps Kristopher Negron up to the seventh, respectively. However, the remainder of the Dodgers lineup will stay intact offensively as they face off against left-hander Joey Lucchesi at home this evening.

Dodgers bats in a dream spot vs. struggling Senzatela in Coors tonight

Antonio Senzatela has regressed this year as he has so far posted a 4.91 ERA / 5.01 xFIP / 5.51 SIERA with a 3.2% K-BB, 38.2% hard contact rate allowed and just a 6.6% SwStr with a .359 xwOBA allowed; all of these numbers are career worsts. Senzatela has shown no signs of turning it around over the past 30 days with a 5.65 xFIP / 5.60 SIERA, a 1.6% K-BB and .350 xwOBA. The Dodgers have been the 3rd hottest offense in baseball over the past 30 days by xwOBA (.338) and their whole lineup is in play with a whopping 7.31 implied total in Coors tonight. Cody Bellinger (.488 xwOBA vs. RHP this year), Justin Turner (.393), Max Muncy (.387), Joc Pederson (.368), Matt Beaty (.353), Alex Verdugo (.347), Russell Martin (.315) and Chris Taylor (.256) are all projected in the LA lineup tonight. Verdugo projects to hit 2nd and is a bargain at $4.9k on Draftkings, followed by Turner projected in the 3-hole at just $5k. Russell Martin is just $3.7k. Dodgers lineup has value and upside at home vs. Lambert

Dodgers bats are slightly priced down, likely due to a tough hitting environment at Dodger Stadium, but they get a great matchup tonight vs. Peter Lambert and have a healthy 5.35 implied total. Lambert so far has been a decent pitcher over a small 15 inning sample size at the MLB level: he has a 6 ERA but a decent 3.73 xFIP, 3.77 SIERA and 18.5% K-BB. He hasn’t shown impressive numbers at any minor league level, however, and projects as a roughly 5.25 ERA pitcher going forward by projection systems. Cody Bellinger (190 wRC+, .349 ISO vs. RHP this year), Joc Pederson (149 wRC+, .379 ISO), Justin Turner (141 wRC+, .118 ISO), Max Muncy (137 wRC+, .250 ISO), Matt Beaty (115 wRC+, .173 ISO) and Alex Verdugo (99 wRC+, .161 ISO) are all great options tonight in LA. Joc Pederson is leading off at just $4.4k on Draftkings, followed by Alex Verdugo at just $3.6k. Turner bats 3rd at just $4.1k, Beaty is also a nice value at just $3.1k batting 7th. Muncy has been their hottest hitter with a 201 wRC+ over the past 2 weeks, followed by Bellinger with a 188 wRC+ that is somehow lower than his season wRC+ of 195.
