Matthew Wolff Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections

Matthew Wolff is no longer in the field

After a poor first round on Thursday, Matthew Wolff has decided to withdraw from The Farmers Insurance Open. Citing a lingering hand injury Wolff is opting for rest in order to prevent further injury. Wolff had the harder course draw on Thursday at the South Course played almost 4 shots harder than the North. If you are loading up showdown lineups for round 2 keep in mind that historically The South Course will play harder than The North once again today. There are some low rounds on The South Course, but they are few and far between.

Matthew Wolff stands out as a strong value option

Last year's Rocket Mortgage Classic marked just the second career professoinal start for Matthew Wolff. The highly touted amateur known for his very unique swing was not able to overcome an opening-round 75 en route to a missed cut. In the year that has since passed Wolff has experienced both the highs and lows of life on the PGA tour. In addition to winning last fall Wolff has twice as many missed cuts as he does top 25 finishes. For game log watchers it will be easy to overlook back to back missed cuts by Wolff prior to this week, but with 3 of his last 4 rounds at par or better, this former OSU golfer is in better form ahead of this week than a missed cut would indicate. Wolff is an intriguing value golfer for the week as he typically plays the type of golf that is needed to compete at The Rocket Mortgage Classic. Birdies will be a premium on what could be an easy track, and Wolff has an aggressive style that could be a difference-maker.

Don't Be Afraid to Mix It Up

Last week showed us the benefits of being contrarian with your GPP builds. Less than 2% of DFS rosters saw 6 or 6 golfers make the cut, and only around 8% of rosters saw 5 of 6 golfers make the cut. Unpredictability is a little more common right now after the long layoff. Throw in an easy course and a weaker field, and we can expect even more volatility this week. Wolff has not played well since the restart, but he did show some signs of life at TPC River Highlands last week. He only missed the cut by one shot, and now he heads to a course where he can attack four par fives with his length off the tee. Obviously, he'll need to hit it straight in order to be in the mix, but I like his scoring upside in potential shootouts. Such was the case when he won last year's 3M Open with a 21-under par score. I certainly don't expect him to win given his current form, but we are getting sub-5% ownership and a dirt cheap price tag right now. This is a spot to buy low in tournaments.

Twenty minutes until roster lock and no major news to report

Twenty minutes until roster lock and there is no major news to report. For the most part weather over the first two days looks to be pretty equal. There is a chance of rain throughout the first two days of play, but by no means is there a clear edge to one tee time wave over another. Good luck this week. ResultsDB will be up and running within 15 minutes of roster lock. Make sure to check out how your lineups stack up against the field.

Ten Minutes to roster lock, no major news to report

Ten minutes until roster lock and there is no major news to report. For the most part weather over the first two days looks to be pretty equal. Friday afternoon could have stronger winds and some rain, but by no means is the predicted edge significant enough to merit a complete fade of one tee time wave. Good luck this week. ResultsDB will be up and running within 15 minutes of roster lock. Make sure to check out how your lineups stack up against the field.

Matthew Wolff set to make his professional debut

With almost nothing left to prove in the world of college golf, Matthew Wolff has decided to turn pro. Like many other Oklahoma State Cowboys before him, Wolff will make the jump to the PGA Tour with hopes of playing well early and often. With only six sponsors exemptions left this season, Wolff will have a very daunting task of trying to earn a PGA Tour card for next season. That being said this golfer with a very unique swing has the talent to compete with the best players in the world. Even if he does not earn a Tour card via starts this season, Wolff will have a place to play on The Web.Com Tour next season. In terms of DFS Wolff could fly under the radar in comparison to the excellent play of his former teammate Viktor Hovland at last week's U.S. Open. Priced less than Hovland, Wolff could be considered as a GPP option for the week. Wolff made the cut as an amateur in his only start of the season at this year's WPMO. If nothing else it's important to pay attention to college players making the jump to professional golf, as many of these players will be at the forefront for years to come.

Young Stars Provide Value

I’m not one to jump on the hype train too soon, but the Travelers is known for extending sponsor invites to up-and-coming Stars, and this year is no exception. Being excited to watch them play and actually using them in DFS are not always the same, but I am going to certainly be using these kids this week. The first one is Matt Wolff and, although I did second guess his course fit here, his profile is really similar to about 60% of the leaderboard from last year. In case you don’t know who Matthew Wolff is, he has won 6 times in college this year, culminating with the NCAA Stroke Play Championship just 3 weeks ago. He has one lone PGA Tour appearance back at the WMPO, where he did make the cut to finish 50th. He is certainly hyped up but for good reason and with his former teammate Hovland (T12 US Open) priced $600 more this week, I will gladly take the savings with Wolff.

Matthew Wolff set to make PGA Tour debut

Regarded as one of the best amateur players in the world, Oklahoma State Cowboy Matthew Wolff will compete in this week's WMPO on a sponsor's invite. Coming off a freshman season in which he claimed first team all American honors, Wolff already has three wins to start his sophomore season. Wolff has a very unusual golf swing, but many in the golf world feel like he will be a player who can transition to the next level. The tournament committee thought enough of this young star to give him the first sponsors invite for the event this year. While it's hard to put much stock in a college sophomore playing in this event as an amateur, it will be fun to see how Wolff fares this week and at a bottom of the barrel price he could make his way onto some big field GPP teams.
