RHBs Have a .383 wOBA and xwOBA Against This Pitcher Since Last Year

You’ve got more top Dodger bats than you can possibly stack and a lot of strong expensive pitching available on Tuesday night. You may even have to punt a position or two, but are certainly looking for value bats in your lineup. The place to start…might actually be the Dodger lineup. Max Muncy (129 wRC+, .232 ISO vs LHP since 2021) is still too cheap on FanDuel ($3.2K), doubling as a top projected overall bat and value there. Trayce Thompson (150 wRC+, .385 ISO) is the top projected value on DraftKings ($2K), but also costs just $2.5K on FanDuel. Batters from either side of the plate exceed a .330 wOBA and xwOBA against Freeland since last season.

It always seems like you can find a ton of value against Patrick Corbin. Maybe that’s because RHBs own a .383 wOBA and xwOBA against him since last year (LHBs .330, .334), while sites continually fail to price bats like they’re playing at Coors when facing him. Projections for both sites agree that players may be able to find some of the best value on the board in Pittsburgh bats tonight, though Michael Chavis (129 wRC+, .244 ISO) is the only one who crosses sites for $2.5K or less on either. Bryan Reynolds (129 wRC+, .167 ISO) remains below $3K on FanDuel, while Daniel Vogelbach has struggled in limited opportunities against LHP (10 wRC+), but costs just $2.4K on DraftKings, while Diego Castillo (98 wRC+, .250 ISO) costs even less.

DraftKings projections believe your Angels (read Trout & Ohtani) stack can be made easier with Brandon Marsh (99 wRC+, .147 ISO) and Andrew Velazquez (42 wRC+, .135 ISO) both costing the minimum against Johnny Cueto (LHBs .325 wOBA, .317 xwOBA since last season). In Kansas City, Josh Smith (156 wRC+ vs RHP) is projected to lead off against Jon Heasley (batters from either side above a .360 xwOBA) for less than $2.5K on either site. He’s joined as a top projected value on FanDuel by Kole Calhoun (98 wRC+, .167 ISO vs RHP since LY) for just $2.3K.

A #GoodSpot Once Again

Boston bats were chalk on Saturday and boy did they disappoint as they were only able to plate 2 runs on 9 hits. Well, they are unsurprisingly in another excellent spot on Sunday against the left-handed Wade LeBlanc and the Orioles bullpen. J.D. Martinez will undoubtedly (and rightfully) be one of the highest owned players on the slate but I wouldn't be surprised if the rest of the team saw a bit of an ownership discount due to them leaving a sour taste in everyone's mouth yesterday combined with there being a Wrigley Wind game on the slate. Make sure to keep a close eye on Boston's lineup as most of their hitters are interchangeable plays based on where they are hitting in the order.

Boston Value

|| Update: Annoyingly, the Red Sox are hitting Kevin Pillar 5th which bumps Chavis down to 7th. Peraza is hitting 9th. I still think Chavis is undervalued and playable in all formats. I also like the correlation you can get by running a 7/9/1 Red Sox stack for extremely cheap. || We'll have to let poor pricing slide on Opening Day as this trio of Boston hitters is simply underpriced for their matchup against Tommy Milone. Providing he's batting top six in the order, Chavis is guy I would consider a "core" value play across the industry. Peraza's spot in the order is a bit up in the air but he makes for a strong value play at a weak position regardless of where he hits (however, he's close to a must play if leading off). Benintendi is the guy that may go a bit overlooked due to the L/L matchup but I still think he's too cheap for a guy that is likely to lead off for a team that has the highest implied run total on the slate.

Red Sox have a ridiculous 7.58 implied total vs. Orioles’ Eshelman

Tom Eshelman has seemingly fared better than expected over his 10 2/3 MLB innings thus far, posting a 5.06 ERA / 4.50 xFIP / 4.92 SIERA with a 11.4% K-BB. His Statcast numbers are a bit uglier, charging him with a .367 xwOBA, 11.4% barrel rate and 90.6 MPH aEV. Eshelman has been a pretty mediocre pitcher at each MiLB stop in his career and projects as a roughly 5.50+ ERA guy by most projection systems. After Eshelman is chased from the game, Red Sox hitters will face an Orioles’ bullpen that has a 4th worst 4.57 SIERA on the year. Mookie Betts (.413 xwOBA vs. RHP this year), Rafael Devers (.389), JD Martinez (.386), Xander Bogaerts (.364), Brock Holt (.358), Jackie Bradley Jr. (.344), Andrew Benintendi (.320) and Michael Chavis (.311) are all great options tonight. Holt has been their hottest hitter since the All-Star break with a .470 xwOBA, followed by Betts at .403 and Devers at .390. Bradley Jr. is the only batter under $4k on Draftkings at $3.7k; he has a 115 wRC+ since June as he’s rebounded nicely following a very slow start to the year. Betts, Devers and Bogaerts will bat 1-2-3 and will all carry $5k + price tags on Draftkings, but could likely be well worth it given the matchup. J.D. Martinez is a nice value batting 4th at just $4.7k.

Red Sox have highest total on the board tonight vs. Tigers’ Soto

The Red Sox are in Detroit tonight to face Gregory Soto and currently have a whopping 6.72 implied line. Soto has certainly been a pitcher to target with opposing bats so far this year, as he’s posted an 8.44 ERA, 6.33 xFIP and 6.03 SIERA with a 2.9% K-BB, 41.6% hard contact rate, 40.8% FB rate and just a 7.9% SwStr over 21 1/3 innings pitched. Soto has also allowed a .391 xwOBA, an atrocious 14.3% barrel rate and a 90.2 MPH aEV. Boston also projects to have plenty of plate appearances vs. the Tigers’ bullpen, who has also been terrible this year as they have a league-worst 4.70 SIERA from their relief pitchers. JD Martinez (.501 xwOBA vs. LHP this year), Xander Bogaerts (.402), Andrew Benintendi (.357, Rafael Devers (.328), Christian Vasquez (.327), Mookie Betts (.310) and Michael Chavis (.307) are all solid options tonight. Jackie Bradley Jr. (.272) is another name to keep in mind as he’s really turned it around after a rough start; over the past month he has a .377 xwOBA and costs just $3.9k on Draftkings. Other nice values include JD Martinez at $4.8k, Andrew Benintendi at $4.3k, Christian Vasquez at $4.3k and Michael Chavis at $4.2k. Vasquez has actually been the Red Sox hottest hitter with a .408 xwOBA over the past 2 weeks. Expect Red Sox hitters to carry high ownership across all contests tonight.

Red Sox have highest implied total by far on the afternoon slate

The Red Sox will face an opener (Derek Law) and then project to face Toronto relievers. Sam Gaviglio is projected to be the first pitcher in relief in Fenway Saturday afternoon. Gaviglio has a 4.47 ERA, 4.24 xFIP and 3.58 SIERA on the year over 48 innings, but has accumulated these stats from the bullpen, averaging just 1.933 innings per appearance. In 2018, making 24 of 26 appearances as a starter, Gaviglio posted a 5.31 ERA and 1.53 HR/9. He likely won’t see much more than 3-4 innings against the Red Sox. Red Sox hitters should see a good amount of plate appearances vs. the rest of the Toronto bullpen, who has an 8th-worst 4.85 xFIP and 3rd-worst 2.03 HR/9 over the past 30 days. Mookie Betts (143 wRC+, .241 ISO vs. RHP this year), Xander Bogaerts (139 wRC+, .210 ISO), Rafael Devers (138 wRC+, .221 ISO), Michael Chavis (121 wRC+, .179 ISO), JD Martinez (111 wRC+, .184 ISO), Brock Holt (110 wRC+, .108 ISO), and Andrew Benintendi (108 wRC+, .171 ISO) are all great options that project to be in the Red Sox order today. Mookie Betts has been their hottest hitter with a .415 xwOBA, followed by Xander Bogaerts with a .397 mark. The Red Sox currently have a 6.63 implied total versus the Blue Jays in Fenway.

Red Sox have highest non-Coors Total on the board vs. Orioles’ Ortiz

The Red Sox will have a dream matchup tonight facing off with Luis Ortiz in Baltimore. Ortiz had a 7.01 ERA, 5.60 xFIP and 7.4 K-BB% over 53 innings in AAA this year. He projects as a 6+ ERA pitcher by most projection systems and should really struggle to get outs. Red Sox hitters project to get many of their plate appearances versus the Baltimore bullpen, which has largely struggled this year with a 6th worst 4.89 xFIP and 2nd worst 1.74 HR/9. JD Martinez (.416 xwOBA vs. RHP on the year), Rafael Devers (.399), Xander Bogaerts (.359), Andrew Benintendi (.349), Jackie Bradley Jr. (.334) and Michael Chavis (.326) are all good options in the Boston lineup tonight. JD Martinez has been their hottest bat over the past 14 days with a .441 xwOBA, followed by Xander Bogaerts with a .413 mark. Michael Chavis will leadoff tonight for the Sox but has been extremely cold of late with a .180 xwOBA over the last 14 days. Brock Holt is a nice value, batting 6th at just $3.8k on Draftkings with a .351 xwOBA over the past 14 days. The Red Sox have a gaudy 6.30 implied total tonight vs. Ortiz and the Orioles.

High Upside GPP Stack

It's been a while since we have seen Clayton Richard at the major league level, but he has long been a left-handed starter with massive differentials in his splits. For his major league career, Richard has allowed a .279 wOBA to lefties and a .354 wOBA to righties. There's also a gigantic split in his hard contact rate, as he has held LHBs to a 23% hard contact rate compared to 36% for righties. Mookie Betts has elite splits against all types of pitchers, and while he has struggled against lefties so far this year, we can't ignore his .380+ wOBA against them for his career, including .488 a year ago. It's only a matter of time before we see him post a huge game against a lefty, and today could be the day. He should be the starting spot of any GPP stacks, while you can add Steve Pearce for value and the other middle of the order bats for upside.

Aaron Sanchez has a 4.88 SIERA, 6.38 DRA and .367 xwOBA all much worse than his 3.88 ERA

Aaron Sanchez has missed bats at a perfectly league average rate this year, but his 12.8 BB% is a major problem and can be seen in a 43.4 Z-O-Swing% that’s second worst on the board. Batters are just not extending the zone against him. As a result, while his ERA is below four (3.88), his estimators are all quite a bit higher, including a 4.88 SIERA, 6.38 DRA and .367 xwOBA backed by a 90.4 mph aEV and 46.2% 95+ mph EV. With three teams well above their 4.96 run line tonight, Boston bats could fly a bit more under the radar than usual. While Sanchez has garnered a reputation as a ground ball pitcher, that hasn’t been so much the case over the last calendar year, in which RHBs are just about league average (44.6%) against him in that department. Batters from either side reach at least a .350 xwOBA against him over that span as well. Michael Chavis (143 wRC+, .213 ISO) joins Mookie Betts (164 wRC+, .236 ISO) and J.D. Martinez (146 wRC+, .230 ISO) as the only Boston bats above a 140 wRC+ and .200 ISO vs RHP over the last calendar year. Andrew Benintendi (125 wRC+, .170 ISO), Mitch Moreland (106 wRC+, .243 ISO), Xander Bogaerts (129 wRC+, .229 ISO) and Rafael Devers (123 wRC+, .216 ISO) are all above average bats as well.

Pivot Off The Chalk Stack

I believe the Cardinals will be the favorite high priced stack, so I think Boston is a good pivot in tournaments. The Red Sox go up against the lefty Wade Miley, who has been pretty decent so far this season, but I think this could be a trouble spot for him. The Red Sox have a lot of dangerous right handed bats, and the wind is blowing out against a pitcher with a low strikeout rate at around 16%. I will be targeting Betts, Martinez, Chavis, and Bogaerts in my stacks today.
