Stay Hot on the Road
Florida is another team with a plus/plus match-up as the 44 times they have lit the lamp over the last 11 games is second in the league only to Toronto. Meanwhile, The Los Angeles Kings come in third in goals against since February 23rd as they have seem the opposing team light the lamp 38 times over the last 10 games. When speaking about the Panthers the top line that features Aleksander Barkov, Jonathan Huberdeau and Evgenii Dadonov are the first ones to come to mind. Mike Hoffman is the player to target here however and I will tell you why. Just recently the Panthers have moved Hoffman up to the second line but before that he was doing just fine as a power play specialist in which he has indeed scored 15 of his 32 goals with the extra attacker. This plays right into Florida’s hands this evening as the 12 power play goals that they have scored over the last 11 games is the most in the league. If you still aren’t convinced then maybe the 20 goals that he has scored on the road this season may help sway your thinking a bit. In fact, Hoffman leads the team with 30 points away from home so far this season which makes an awful lot of sense as the opposing teams are usually trying to shut down the team’s top line.
Huberdeau to be Overlooked this Evening
It’s tough not to notice the play of Jonathan Huberdeau of late as it seems like almost every night he’s finding the score sheet on multiple occasions. Well, he actually is as he has racked up nine multiple point games over the last 12 games. Tonight the Washington Capitals pay a visit to the Sunshine State after playing in Carolina last night. Huberdeau skates on the top line with Aleksander Barkov and Mike Hoffman so you can be rest assured that he will get plenty of looks at the net this evening. He is also part of the top power play line that has helped the Panthers score eight power play goals over the last seven games. I can just see it now, a tired Tom Wilson having a player skate by him only to ..well…you get the picture. Cha-Ching!
This line should dominate from puck drop
Despite missing Vincent Trocheck to injury, the Florida Panther’s are still a strong possession team. Since losing Trocheck, the Panther’s CF/60 has remained strong (61.68), while the New York Ranger’s have struggled with puck possession (CA/60 of 61.55). That is good for third worst in the entire NHL. Aleksander Barkov, Mike Hoffman, and Jonathan Huberdeau make up Florida’s loaded up top line, and I expect them to spend a lot of time in the offensive zone. All three also play on the team’s top power-play unit, giving them elite upside. Defenseman Keith Yandle is a nice addition to the stack if you have the salary available.
Underpriced Line at Home
DraftKings does a pretty good job of adjusting prices on the fly to reflect recent production, but their algorithm appears to be lagging behind on Florida's number one line. Barkov, Huberdeau and Hoffman have combined for 24 points in their last five games! Huberdeau has been the hottest, accounting for 12 of those 24 points. Tonight, they face a Colorado team who just allowed 6 goals to the Penguins on the road. I wouldn't be surprised to see Florida put up 4+ goals tonight with their number one line leading the way.
This player has thrived on his new team this season.
Mike Hoffman has been thriving in Florida this season after a crazy offseason. He leads the team in goals and shots and is second in points. Playing on the top line with Aleksander Barkov and Evgenii Dadonov has been fantastic for him as that line has been their best. Tonight the Panthers host the Buffalo Sabres who are on the tail end of a back to back in which they had their 10 game winning streak snapped by the Tampa Bay Lightning last night.
This player is loving his new team this season.
Mike Hoffman certainly received a lot of criticism over the last year or so with regards to all the goings-on with Erik Karlsson, their wives, and whatever else happened. However, he's taken his spot on the Florida Panthers top line and has simply dominated. He leads the team in goals with 12 and points with 23. Additionally, he's among the top 20 in shots. He's playing alongside Aleksander Barkov and Evgenii Dadonov and this line takes on the Anaheim Ducks who are on the tail-end of a back to back.
Forward Cant Stop, Won't Stop Shooting
Mike Hoffman was involved in one of the most bizarre offseason stories. Hoffman was traded from the Senators to the Sharks. Then Erik Karlsson's wife claimed that Hoffman's fiance had been harassing them online. Hoffman was then dealt to the Panthers, where he's had an excellent start to the year. Hoffman is averaging over a point per game, and has been putting pucks on net with remarkable consistency. He has at least four shots on goal in his last five games, giving him a nice floor. A goal in four of those five games shows his tremendous ceiling as well. Pair him with linemates Aleksander Barkov and Evgenii Dadonov for a nice line stack with upside.
This line will have plenty of high danger scoring opportunities tonight
The Chicago Blackhawks will continue their Florida road trip as they visit the Panthers tonight. Last night Chicago allowed four goals to the Lightening, and they come into tonight’s game last in the NHL in high danger scoring chances allowed per 60 minutes (13.09). Aleksander Barkov, Mike Hoffman, and Evgenii Dadonov will have their chances tonight, and I expect them to pay off their moderate price tags. It is also Hoffman’s birthday if you’re into that kind of narrative. Keith Yandle is the play on defense, as he plays on the first power-play unit.
Top Line in Smash Spot
Aleksander Barkov and Evgenii Dadonov will forever have a soft spot in my heart thanks to the number one number for Florida winning me the 2018 DK NHL Live Final. Tonight, FLA1 should feast on arguably the worst defensive team in the NHL, the Ottawa Senators. The Senators are allowing over 4 goals a game this season, the only team that can make that (unfortunate) claim. Lately, it's been Mike Hoffman finding the scoresheet with frequency, extending his point streak to a ridiculous 15 games. I see no reason the scoring doesn't continue in what should be an uptempo game.
The top line for the Florida Panthers has a great matchup.
Mike Hoffman has really started to settle in with the Florida Panthers. He's playing on the top line with Aleksander Barkov and Evgenii Dadonov. However, he gets relegated to second unit PP which is discouraging. Although, he is still tied for the team lead in goals with 7 and leads them in shots with 49. They visit the Philadelphia Flyers tonight, a team that is allowing 3.53 goals against per game which is the fourth-most in the NHL.
