Nathan MacKinnon Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections
This centre has elite upside tonight.
Nathan MacKinnon centers arguably the best like in the NHL with Gabriel Landeskog and Mikko Rantanen on his wings. All three skaters managed to put up at least 30 goals and 75 points with MacKinnon leading the way with 41 and 99 respectively. This line has elite upside as they all play on the top power play unit together.
This centre is on the best offensive line in the NHL.
The top line in Colorado is still the most productive line from an offensive standpoint despite a bit of a slowdown. Nathan MacKinnon leads the team in goals with 27 and is second on the team in points with 72 behind Mikko Rantanen's 74. The Avalanche visit the Washington Capitals, a team that has struggled with possession over the last four weeks. Since January 10th, Washington has allowed a 62.17 CA/60 which is the third-worst mark in the NHL. On the Avs side of things, they put up a league-best 66.51 CF/60 and an overall possession of 54.74 CF%, which ranks third. This is quite the lopsided battle in favour of Colorado which is encouraging for a team that has scored just 7 goals in their last 4 games.
This sniper has a difficult matchup on a short-slate.
The Colorado Avalanche host the Nashville Predators today and although this is a tough matchup, given that it is just a four-game slate I don't mind using the best offensive line in the NHL here. Nathan MacKinnon, Mikko Rantanen and Gabriel Landeskog are still producing the best offensive numbers in the NHL as a line and are definitely in play on a short slate. The trio play on the top power play unit as always which gives them full-game correlation and elite upside.
The highest-scoring line in the NHL has an elite matchup.
The top line in Colorado comprised of Nathan MacKinnon, Mikko Rantanen and Gabriel Landeskog is the highest-scoring line in the NHL. They've been completely dominant and although they've slowed down a bit — or have Nikita Kucherov and Johnny Gaudreau just exploded? — this line is still an elite play game-in and game-out. Tonight they visit the Ottawa Senators, a team that since the Christmas break has a 26th ranked CF% of 47.29 and giving up a league-high 63.19 CA/60. On the other hand, Colorado has been dominant possession-wise with a 53.77 CF% (4th) and 64.94 CF/60 (2nd) since the break.
Eruption Spot Finally Coming?
DFS Players have been jamming in the number one line for Colorado seemingly every slate lately, but the upside hasn't been there. It's been eight games since either Mikko Rantanen or Gabriel Landeskog have had a multi-point outing, while Nathan MacKinnon has just one during that span. Tonight's home matchup against the Rangers could be just what they need to break out. They'll be facing the backup goalie, Georgiev, who is allowing 3.22 goals per game on the year, including 4.26 GAA on the road. I'd be shocked if COL1 didn't light the lamp multiple times tonight in route to an easy victory.
This top line continues to dominate its competition.
I know this gets boring, but it's tough to ignore arguably the best line in hockey on a shorter, six-game slate. Both Mikko Rantanen (62) and Nathan MacKinnon (59) remain second and third respectively in the NHL scoring race. When a line is this dominant, you always want to use them. They're taking on the San Jose Sharks — a team that has been a dominant possession team this season. However, their goaltending is really starting to become an issue and is holding them back from the elite tier. The Sharks even strength save percentage is an abysmal .891, which is the second-worst mark in the NHL. While Colorado may not win the possession game, the elite talent could win out against the brutal goaltending of the Sharks.
This line will see plenty of high danger scoring chances
The Colorado Avalanche mixed up their lines slightly as Matt Nieto replaces Landeskog on the top line alongside Nathan MacKinnon and Mikko Rantanen. This line should see plenty of high danger scoring chances against a Chicago team giving up the most in the league at 13.33 HDCA/60. Power-play defenseman Tyson Barrie always seems to get overlooked, but he makes a nice addition to this stack as he correlates on the top power-play unit. The high price tag on this line stack makes it challenging to stack, and is a way I look to differentiate my lineup in GPP’s.
This line will see plenty of high danger scoring chances
Without a doubt, Colorado’s top line has been one the best lines in hockey this year. Nathan MacKinnon, Gabriel Landeskog, and Mikko Rantanen will have plenty of high quality scoring chances against an Arizona Coyote’s team giving up 12.27 HDCA/60. Power-play defenseman Tyson Barrie always seems to get overlooked, but he makes a nice addition to this stack as he correlates on the top power-play unit. The high price tag on this line stack makes it challenging to stack, and is a way I look to differentiate my lineup in GPP’s. Look for this line to bounce back after last nights loss.
Best Line in NHL in Smash Spot
I feel like I'm copying and pasting this section every time the Avalanche are on the slate, but nothing has changed since then. Keep playing the best line in the NHL, consisting of Nathan MacKinnon, Gabriel Landeskog, Mikko Rantanen. They are on a historic pace at this point, combining for 155 points through 35 games. They'll face a Chicago team coming off a surprise road win against the Stars, so this is a likely letdown spot for them. There's also a change Collin Delia will be in net for the Hawks, who would be making his first start of the season after struggling in limited action last year.
It's tough to ignore this line on a two-game slate.
While the top line in Colorado is seemingly written up every time they play, it is impossible to ignore them when there are just two games on the slate. Nathan MacKinnon, Mikko Rantanen and Gabriel Landeskog are arguably the best line in the NHL — at least from an offensive standpoint. Rantanen leads the league with 56 points while MacKinnon sits second with 53. MacKinnon has 21 goals to Rantanen's 15 but it is Landeskog who leads the team with 22 goals and a modest 41 points. They host the Montreal Canadiens team that is playing great lately, but it's tough to shut this line down.
