CLE QB Case Keenum placed on COVID list, QB Nick Mullens in line to start Saturday

Case Keenum has been placed on the COVID list and Nick Mullens is now in line to start Saturday against the Las Vegas Raiders. The Browns are now down to their third string quarterback and are shorthanded across the board with 21 layers (at the time of writing) currently on the COVID list. Aside from Nick Chubb and Donovan Peoples-Jones it is probably best to avoid the Browns offense on Saturday.

49ers will start Nick Mullens at QB in Week 10

Mullens confirmed with reporters that head coach Kyle Shanahan told him that he will start in Monday night's matchup with the New York Giants after an impressive performance against an abysmal Oakland Raiders defense in his first career start. Mullens will be in a favorable spot in Week 10 to keep the Niners offense heading in the right direction, as the Giants rank towards the bottom of the NFL in several pass-rushing and pass-coverage metrics this season, including a 3.5% adjusted sack rate that, ironically, only ranks ahead of the aforementioned Raiders defense.

Nick Mullens will start at QB for the 49ers on Thursday night. CJ Beathard will be active, but is not healthy enough to go and will only act as the backup in an emergency situation.

While CJ Beathard has been cleared for tonight, it's still very possible that Nick Mullens ends up starting at QB for TNF per Matt Maiocco. The 49ers did cut Tom Savage today which would seemingly indicate that Beathard is at worst healthy enough to act as the backup QB, but a few 49ers beats are rolling out the notion that it may be Mullens who gets the starting nod. If that is indeed the case, it would be a mild bump down for the 49ers pass-catchers, but on a showdown slate we don't exactly have too many viable pivoting options. Mullens does provide some savings to Beathard on DraftKings which is helpful, but the value of guys like George Kittle and Marquise Goodwin does drop a little.
