New York Giants sign WR Parris Campbell to a one-year contract.
IND WR Parris Cambell inactive Sunday; WR Michael Pittman active
The Colts are extremely thin at WR; although Pittman will be coming back, Campbell is inactive due to an abdomen injury. It'll be Pascal and Pittman leading the way for the WRs, while the Colts will continue to use two TE sets likely; Jack Doyle and Mo Allie-Cox will continue to see the field plenty. Mike Strachan played 24% of snaps last week and should round out the 3 WR set, but shouldn't be played in DFS.
IND WR Michael Pittman Jr. (ankle) and Parris Campbell (abdomen) listed questionable
The Colts injury woes may continue at WR; already without T.Y. Hilton for the first three weeks (at least), Pittman and Campbell were both added to the injury report Friday. Both players practiced in full Wednesday and Thursday, but were limited today. Zach Pascal played 91% of snaps last game, and would likely be in the same area again, regardless of either player sitting. The Colts also could utilize Ashton Dulin more, along with their TEs; Jack Doyle, Mo-Allie Cox, and Kylen Granson would all likely get more snaps as the Colts utilize 2 tight ends more than the average team. If one of the two WRs play while the other sit, it would also enhance their value.
Parris Campbell 2021 Fantasy Outlook
Per RotoGrinders NFL player projections, Parris Campbell is expected to be the fantasy WR72. He's being drafted on Underdog Fantasy as WR64 at pick 134, compared to his RotoGrinders ranking of 151 as of July. We currently expect a 14% target share which amounts to a projection of 82 targets (Rank 75) and 548 receiving yards (Rank 79) during the 17 week fantasy season.
Injuries have marred the first two seasons for Campbell, as he has only been able to play in nine games total in that span. And considering the Colts project to have a below average Pass Offense Rating, the range of outcomes for Campbell this season are quite wide. It is tough to get too excited about him if we think he is in fact getting drafted too early, but his fantasy prospects could look a little rosier if he is able to surpass Pascal on the depth chart on a consistent basis.
Parris Campbell (knee) out indefinitely, expected to miss significant time
Campbell suffered a sprained MCL and PCL during Sunday's Week 2 win over the Minnesota Vikings and will be out indefinitely. The Colts haven't ruled out a potential return for Campbell later in the season, but if he winds up needing surgery to repair the ligament damage in his knee, there's certainly a possibility the team decides to place him on injured reserve for the remainder of the year and effectively end the standout second-year wide receivers' 2020 season. With Campbell sidelined for a lengthy period of time, it should be expected for T.Y. Hilton to reassert himself as the clear number one wide receiver in the Colts' offense, while Zach Pascal and rookie Michael Pittman Jr. figure to see more snaps on the outside with Hilton likely moving inside on three-wide receiver sets.
Schefter Late Night Tweets: Duke Johnson, Michael Pittman Jr. not expected to play; Brandin Cooks, Golden Tate, Zach Pascal, Gerald Everett all expected to play
Per Adam Schefter, the Texans won't have Duke Johnson on Sunday, clearing the way for David Johnson to continue leading Houston's backfield. They will have Brandin Cooks in action, although he's still a shaky play given the matchup. The Colts won't have Michael Pittman Jr. on Sunday but will have Zach Pascal active. With Jack Doyle also out, Parris Campbell could benefit from added looks over the middle with Mo Alie-Cox set to see an uptick in snaps at the TE spot. T.Y. Hilton has plenty of bounce-back appeal against a Vikings secondary that was just shredded by the Packers. As for the Giants, they are expected to get Golden Tate back, which is a plus for their depth but sieves some value from Sterling Shepard. Tate shouldn't be expected to log a heavy snap count in his debut. Schefter has also noted that Gerald Everett is expected to play while the Chargers won't have Justin Jackson, potentially affording Josh Kelly some extra work.
Colts Place Parris Campbell on Injured Reserve
Campbell's season is over, as he will be placed on injured reserve. He had returned after missing four games, only to break his foot early in the game.
