Philipp Grubauer Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections
Streaking goalie takes on slumping offense
Philipp Grubauer is simply far too cheap, checking in at just $7,600 on DraftKings. His price on FanDuel ($8,400) is more than reasonable given his strong play of late. Grubauer has been sensational after the All-Star break, going 7-3-1 with a 1.64 GAA and .949 SV%. During this stretch, Grubauer has recorded three shutouts. Meanwhile, the Arizona Coyotes have scored two or fewer goals in six consecutive games, scoring just 7 goals in the process. Grubauer is viable in all formats.
Backup netminder takes on former team
Grubauer has had two weeks off to forget about his disastrous performance in the wild and crazy 7-6 overtime loss in Vancouver. The ex-Capital figures to be highly motivated to bounce back with a much better performance tonight, especially against his old team. Grubauer is affordable on DraftKings ($7,700) and dirt-cheap on FanDuel ($7,400) and is an interesting pivot from Laurent Brossoit who checks in at the same salary there. Prior to Grubauer's struggles in Vancouver, he had won three straight starts. The Capitals are banged up at the moment, and as long as the Avalanche stay out of the penalty box, Grubauer could be in for a big night. After all, the Capitals have managed just a goal in three of their last four games.
Backup goalie makes first start for 2-0 Avalanche
Colorado has allowed just three goals in their first two games, and while both of those came at home with Semyon Varlamov, Philipp Grubauer has been one of the best backups in the National Hockey League over the last two seasons, posting a 28-16-5 record, 2.20 goals against average and .924 save percentage. The Avalanche have a tough matchup with Sergei Bobrovsky, but they catch the Blue Jackets at a good time as they are without Seth Jones and Brandon Dubinsky. Grubauer should see a number of shots as Colorado often does, especially on the road, so the upside is certainly there. At $7,400 on DraftKings and FanDuel, Grubauer should be on your tournament radar for an Avalanche team powered by Nathan MacKinnon who has two goals on 15 shots in just a pair of games this season.
Top Goalie Tonight?
The Washington Capitals are one of the biggest favorites on the board tonight as they take on an Ottawa Senators team that is struggling to both win games (7-17-5 on the road), and score goals (30th overall in the National Hockey League in goals per game away from home), moving goaltender Philipp Grubauer to the top of our cash game list. Grubauer has been outstanding since the beginning of December, and I think we see a strong performance from him this evening. Although I feel Grubauer is the better goalie and the safer play, you could certainly save some salary by going with Casey DeSmith for Pittsburgh tonight also.
Back this backup goalie for the all-important win
Philipp Grubauer is priced more appropriately on DraftKings ($8,200), where he is only $200 behind the most expensive goalie, but on FanDuel, Grubauer comes at a nice discount ($8,000) from the more expensive options. Although Grubauer does not get many starts, he is one of the best backup goaltenders in the National Hockey League. Grubauer could not ask for a better matchup than a Buffalo team which badly misses stud Jack Eichel. Washington's defense leaves a lot to be desired, but they should be solid tonight as Buffalo is averaging the fewest goals per game (2.39 GF/G) in the National Hockey League. The Washington Capitals are the biggest favorite on the board given their home dominance (20-9-2) and Buffalo's struggles on the road (10-14-7). Grubauer is a fantastic cash game piece and a secondary tournament option if hunting for a shutout as he is unlikely to see a large number of shots.
Top Goalie Tonight
To be completely honest, Im not in love with any goaltender tonight on this three-game slate, but with the Washington Capitals being the biggest favorite, Philipp Grubauer becomes the logical choice as your cash game goalie, especially on FanDuel where he is substantially cheaper. The Montreal Canadiens have struggled both on the road (7-13-1) and to score goals this year (ranking 29th overall in the National Hockey League in goals per game), and I think we see Grubauer and the Capitals take care of business tonight at the Capital One Arena. Grubauer has been spectacular of late (1.53 GAA and a .955 SV% in his last five starts), and I expect another strong performance from him this evening.
Top Goalie Tonight
The Washington Capitals are a massive favorite tonight as they face off against a struggling Vancouver Canucks squad. The Canucks have won just twice over their last 10 games, and their offense has been nonexistent in the month of January, averaging just 1.33 goals per game, good for second-last overall in the National Hockey League. Philipp Grubauer has been brilliant in his last three starts (1.07 GAA, .962 SV% and one shutout), and I expect another strong performance tonight against this punch-less Canucks offense. Grubauer may not see a ton of rubber in this one, but the win is a lock, and a shutout is a strong possibility.
Top Goalie Tonight?
Im not in love with any goaltender this evening, but I plan to roll with Philipp Grubauer in cash games (especially on FanDuel where he is quite cheap). The Washington Capitals are the biggest favorite on the board, and the Arizona Coyotes dont pose much of an offensive threat. The Desert Dogs rank 25th overall in the National Hockey League in shots on net and 30th in goals per game. Grubauer may not see a ton of rubber in this contest, but he is a lock for the win and there is shutout potential here.
Backup goalie looks to turn around season
Philipp Grubauer (1-5-1, 3.49 GAA, .886 SV%) has not been the same reliable backup he was last season, but he has also had the toughest of starts, often on back to backs and on the road. At home, he is 1-1 with a 2.05 GAA and .917 SV%. Last season Grubauer protected the Verizon Center with relative ease, going 5-0 with a sterling 0.72 GAA and .973 SV%. Furthermore, Grubauer collected three shutouts at home. The San Jose Sharks are solid defensively, but their offense has really struggled this season, particularly Brent Burns. With no clear cut top option in net tonight, Grubauer emerges as an excellent value in all formats.
