Tony Finau and Dustin Johnson are both out this week

News broke this afternoon that both Tony Finau and Dustin Johnson are out of this week's CJ Cup due to COVID-19. Finau tested positive last week but has not yet cleared the testing protocol in order to return. DJ tested positive today and will miss this week. Robby Shelton and J.T. Poston are now both into this week's field.

Bryson DeChambeau returns to the site of his U.S. Amateur win

Bryson DeChambeau took to Instagram today as he returns to the site of perhaps his biggest win in the world of golf. DeChambeau won the 2015 U.S Amateur at Olympia Fields and will look to build on his past experiences for this week's BMW Championship. With a revamped game that now exploits his ability to hit the ball as far as possible, it will be interesting to see how DeChambeau plays this course in comparison to his first visit at Olympia Fields. DeChambeau will not be the only golfer in the field from the 2015 U.S Amateur. Other notable names in this week's field that played in the 2015 U.S. Amateur are also tagged in this post. Jon Rahm lost in the round of 16 narrowly missing out on a chance to win his first USGA event.

Sean O'Hair is no longer in the field

Sean O'Hair will not play in this week's WMPO. One would assume this late in the week that O'Hair has some kind of injury or illness keeping him out of the event. At this time we have no news to go on, and his replacement ( Robby Shelton) will not be available in DFS pricing pools.

Still Far Too Cheap

Simply put, these price tags are borderline criminal at this point. Yahoo is the only site where Shelton doesn’t feel like an absolute bargain. He has blitzed his way onto the PGA Tour after a fantastic season on the Korn Ferry Tour, as Shelton has made the cut in all three fall swing events so far. He has finished 7th, 28th, and 52nd in those events. While he faded over the weekend in Napa a week ago, that doesn’t change my overall opinion on him, especially since the DK/FD/FDRAFT prices have stayed at a dirt cheap level. Shelton ranks 27th during the fall swing in ball striking, which is encouraging despite the small sample size. Buy low while you still can. He is a better golfer than the price tags would indicate.

Elite Value

While it is Scheffler earning all the accolades, let’s not sleep on Robby Shelton as a potential breakthrough candidate in the 2019-2020 season. Shelton actually finished ahead of Scheffler on the Korn Ferry Tour money list last year (they finished 2nd and 3rd). Like Scheffler, Shelton finished in a tie for second place at the Greenbrier last week. However, Scheffler is getting a ton of buzz, while nobody is talking about Shelton. The latter is significantly cheaper on every site and doesn’t have nearly the same odds to win. However, it is my opinion that the sites are under-pricing Shelton here. This is a talented golfer who made a whopping 23 birdies a week ago. That type of scoring ability will play anywhere. Shelton is my favorite value of the week.
