Ryan Mallett to start preseason opener

Ryan Mallett will play extensively tonight against the Washington Redskins. Garrett Downing of the teams official web site reported that Mallett will "play pretty extensively". Joe Flacco is sidelined with a back injury, Mallett is most likely playing for a job. There is a chance he'll play the whole first half tonight. Mallett is a strong DFS option at Quarterback this evening. Plenty of eyes will be on him with the Ravens and Colin Kaepernick signing still being talked about.

Joe Flacco and Steve Smith do not practice for Ravens

Smith is expected to not play again this week but Flacco missing practice for a second straight day is alarming news for the Ravens and puts his playing status in doubt for this weekend. Ryan Mallett would be the starting QB if Flacco can't play. We'll keep an eye on Flacco's status and update you as soon as more info comes in.

Joe Flacco does not practice; some cause for concern

Ravens QB Joe Flacco has a shoulder injury and did not practice today. Head Coach Jim Harbaugh stated that he has a legitimate shot to play on Sunday but was not sure what the percentage was for that - seems as if there is some chance he might not play which is something to keep an eye on as the Ravens have a plus match up against a Jets team that is dead last in Pass DVOA. Ryan Mallett would be the QB option if Flacco can't go and would be in play as a value QB option if that were to happen.

Ryan Mallett expected to start for Ravens

After being signed almost two weeks ago, Ryan Mallett will make his first start for the Baltimore Ravens in what is expected to be his audition for next season's backup job. Earlier in the week Ravens coach John Harbaugh suggested that Mallett could start the final two games this season and that now appears to be the case. The Steelers come in strong against the run and vulnerable against the pass - #27 vs. QB's & #32 vs. WR's DvP - though it will remain to be seen if Mallett can take advantage of the Steelers' secondary with his depleted offensive weapons. Kamar Aiken has taken over as the team's #1 WR option and has received targets of 14, 8, 10, 11, 7 and 12 the last 6 weeks.

Ryan Mallett to draw a start or two for the Ravens?

With Matt Schaub and Jimmy Clausen starting in recent weeks since Joe Flacco's injury, the Ravens may now turn to Ryan Mallett in order to get an idea of how he fits within their offense over the last two weeks. It's possible that they are interested in having him act as Flacco's backup next season, and while he'd be running an offense that lacks any real weapons, he'd likely be an improvement over either Schaub or Clausen. "We’ll see where it goes this week," coach John Harbaugh said Monday. "Obviously, the clock is ticking. If we want to see him this year, we’re going to have to put him out pretty quick, but that’s a matter of whether he’s ready to play. We also want to do justice to our chances to win the game too." We'll provide an update on the situation when one is available.
