Top Overall Line Tonight

The top overall line stack of the night is the Devils top line which features Taylor Hall, Nico Hischier, and Kyle Palmieri. With a whopping 32 combined points over their last 10 games, this trio draws a juicy matchup against a Rangers team that has allowed the most shot attempts and owns the worst xGA/60 over their past 15 games. Not required to play the tough minutes against the opposition's top scoring threats, home ice advantage will allow head coach John Hynes to get his most talented scoring line against one of the many weaker defensive lines of New York throughout much of this game. In a must win game for the Devils expect a big performance from this trio in an important game for New Jersey as they fight for playoff contention.

Finnish defenseman figures to have a huge night

Sami Vatanen has settled in nicely with the Devils, posting a respectable 18 points (1 goal, 17 assists) in 37 games. Goals have been hard to come by for the ex-Duck, as he has been the victim of an uncharacteristically low shooting percentage, much like with Anaheim a season ago. Nonetheless, Sami has really turned up his game as of late, tallying seven helpers in as many games. Furthermore, his ice time is on the rise, and last time out, Vatanen fired a healthy six shots on goal. With the porous Islanders defense in town, Vatanen seems certain to hit the score sheet with upside for much, much more on the power play as the Islanders sport the Eastern Conference's worst penalty kill rate (74.4%).

Some added motivation for this recently traded blue-liner

If you're looking for a "Narrative Street" play (as well as a salary saver), then Sami Vatanen should be on your radar. While the 26-year-old may still be searching for his first point as a member of the New Jersey Devils, he should be quite motivated for tonight's matchup against the team that traded him away just a few weeks ago. Vatanen flirted with the 40+ point plateau on numerous occassions with the Ducks and he's not going to be held off the board for long in New Jersey. He's averaging nearly 22 minutes of ice-time per game thus far with the Devils, sees a healthy dose of playing time on the point of their second power-play unit, and the matchup is a fine one as Anaheim owns an NHL worst 63.06 CA/60.

Two dirt-cheap defensemen worth a gamble

Outside of Oscar Klefbom in Edmonton, the options from the blue line are few and far between. Both Hampus Lindholm and Sami Vatanen, two young defensemen, are priced down across the industry despite an increased role with the injuries to Cam Fowler and Kevin Bieksa. The matchup with Nashville is not ideal, but they do not need to do much to pay off their dirt-cheap salaries in this rematch from last season's Western Conference Finals.
