Jones to put Columbus over the top
Seth Jones looks like he is finally getting back into shape as he has lit the lamp four times to go along with five assists over the last nine games. His injury kept him on the shelf for the first seven games but it’s easy to believe that he may have come back too early. Jones leads the Blue Jackets defensemen with six goals and 12 assists in the 24 games that he has suited up for. What this obviously means is that he had registered just nine points in his first 15 games. I think we like the new point-per-game version of Jones instead.
This line will see plenty of high danger scoring chances
The Washington Capitals are allowing the most HDCA/60 (High danger scoring chances against per 60 min played) in the league. Artemi Panarin, Cam Atkinson, and Pierre-Luc Dubois will look to stay hot and capitalize on these abundant chances. Seth Jones is my preferred option on the blue line, as he correlates with Dubois and Atkinson on the man advantage.
Big discount on young Vancouver defenseman
For whatever reason, Derrick Pouliot's price has plunged from $4,300 on 11/13 to $2,700 tonight on DraftKings. Perhaps it's his six consecutive games without a point, all of which came on the road, that is the reason for the price drop. Whatever the reason may be, such a price tag on a defenseman seeing top power play minutes with super talent Elias Pettersson has to be taken advantage of. Pouliot is still reasonable on FanDuel ($3,700), but there are other guys roughly $1,000 more (e.g. Thomas Chabot, Ryan Ellis, Oscar Klefbom, Seth Jones) that rate as better plays. Vancouver is surprisingly averaging 3.57 goals per game on home ice and will get a crack at Carey Price, who despite turning in a gem last time out, has really struggled on the season. As always with someone like Pouliot, temper your expectations, but his price is really attractive now that he's back on home ice against a beatable opponent.
This has been one of the hottest defensemen in the NHL over the last 10 games
Seth Jones has been dominant over his last 10 games picking up seven goals, 13 points, 14 blocks and 36 shots on goal which averages out to 5.8 DraftKings points per game. He has been on fire and has the best recent stats of anybody on the slate. Jones and the Columbus Blue Jackets are hosting the St. Louis Blues who are on the tail-end of a back to back after picking up a win at home last night with a 4-1 victory over the Vancouver Canucks. Jones plays on the top power play unit and is averaging over 24 minutes per game this season which should allow him plenty of opportunities to get on the scoresheet tonight. However his shots and blocks also give him a solid floor if he can’t quite get there offensively.
This defensemen has taken it to another level offensively over the last week
Since February 1st, Seth Jones is second among defensemen in shots in goal with 80 in 21 games. Over the same amount of time he has picked up six goals and 16 points including eight points with the man advantage. With the Blue Jackets hosting the Senators tonight, this is a premium matchup for Jones. The Senators, over their last 10 games, have allowed a score and venue adjusted CA/60 of 63.91 which is the fourth worst mark in the NHL. Jones is also on a four game point streak in which he has picked up four goals and eight points. Mike Condon is expected in net tonight for the Sens and he has been terrible this season as his 3.22 goals against average and .904 save percentage are way below average. Jones could be in for a big game tonight.
Keep Riding This Top Line Tonight
If you're looking to pick on a struggling road team tonight, consider taking the top line from Columbus which features talented young playmakers Panarin, Dubois, and Atkinson. They draw a fantastic matchup against a Capitals team that has allowed the most scoring chances and owns the worst adjusted xGA/60 over their past 20 games on tonight's slate. This bodes well for this underrated trio of forwards, who lead Columbus in scoring chances generated this season.
Look For This Trio To Breakout Tonight
If you're looking to differentiate your lineup from the masses that will be rostering Penguins and Lightning tonight, consider taking the top line from Columbus which features talented young playmakers Panarin, Dubois, and Atkinson. They draw a fantastic matchup against a struggling Islanders team that has allowed the most scoring chances in the league this season. This bodes well for this underrated trio of forwards, who lead Columbus in scoring chances generated this season. Also seeing time on CBJ's power play, look for this line to break out in a big way against an Islanders penalty kill that ranks 30th in the NHL this season.
Don't Sleep On This Trio
If you're looking to differentiate your lineup from the masses that will be rostering Penguins and Jets tonight, consider taking the top line from Columbus which features talented young playmakers Panarin, Dubois, and Atkinson. They draw a fantastic matchup against a struggling Capitals team that has allowed the most scoring chances and owns the second worst adjusted xGA/60 over their past 15 games. This bodes well for this underrated trio of forwards, who lead Columbus in scoring chances generated this season. Also seeing time on CBJ's power play, look for this line to break out in a big way against a Washington penalty kill that ranks 21st in the NHL this season.
Often overlooked defenseman in a nice spot tonight
Picking on the Islanders has become a pretty popular DFS Strategy as they've allowed an NHL worst 3.62 goals against per game this season and own an Eastern Conference worst 73.9% penalty kill. Looking to exploit this, many users are going to look towards the Columbus forwards. While that's certainly worth its merit, it's actually been defenseman Seth Jones pumping out the most consistent fantasy stat lines down the stretch for this team. Jones led the team with ten points in ten games during the month of January and leads the team with nearly 25 minutes of average ice-time per game this season. He posted a goal and an assist in two games against the Islanders earlier this season and even leads the entire team with 156 SOG. Also holding the reigns as the quarterback of team's #1 power-play unit, he's a fine option in all game formats this evening.
This defenseman is second on his team in points
Seth Jones is second on the Columbus Blue Jackets in points, which is pretty impressive given that they have solid depth of offensive talent and that he is a defenseman. One big change in his game this season is his shots volume. Jones is averaging 3.08 shots on goal this season, compared to his career average of 1.88 shots per game. He has already surpassed his shot total from last season in just 50 games (he played 75 last year). Columbus is home to the San Jose Sharks tonight and a struggling Martin Jones. On the season, Jones has a 2.66 goals against average and a .911 save percentage. Since December 1st, those numbers are even worse with a 3.13 GAA and a .893 SV%. Jones makes for a good GPP play tonight on this short slate.
