Socrates Brito Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections
Cheap Leadoff Option for Main Slate
Socrates Brito will lead off for the Jays on Friday night vs. Shane Bieber and comes at a very affordable price across the industry. Brito is an intriguing power-speed guy (17 HRs, 15 SB, 140 wRC+ in 478 PA in AAA last year) who matches up well with Bieber. Bieber was pretty bad vs. LHB last year (.355 xwOBA, 1.26 HR/9). He also stays around the zone often, possibly too often with a 4.7% BB rate in 2018 and a 6.6% BB rate vs. LHB. This could be a positive for Brito, who is a bit of a free-swinger as he projects for a 25.6% K rate and 5.9% BB rate per steamer. Working against Brito is the Jays’ ice cold lineup, which comes in at a 23rd ranked .287 xwOBA on the year and was almost no-hit again Thursday night.
Arizona has tonight's top run projection (6.15) against Butler (43.7 GB%, 26.0 Hard-Soft%)
Eddie Butler at least had an above average ground ball rate last year, but this year it's down to 43.7% with a 25.2 LD% and 26.0 Hard-Soft% to go with just a 15.2 K%. Expecting a lot of hard contact tonight, Arizona is easily the top projected offense tonight (6.15 runs). Every bat in this lineup is playable. Unfortunately, there are only two LH bats in Lamb (150 wRC+, .289 ISO vs RHP this season) and Brito (83 wRC+, .161 ISO vs RHP career), who bats 9th. LHBs have a .432 wOBA against Butler in his career. RHBs still hit him well too (.363 wOBA). Paul Goldschmidt (150 wRC+, .240 ISO vs RHP since 2015) is the top bat, while Yasmany Tomas (74 wRC+, .114 ISO vs RHP career) gains some value now batting 2nd for around $4K. Phil Gosselin (100 wRC+, .151 ISO vs RHP since 2015) is the cheapest bat, below $3.5K on either site, and the surprise entry in tonight's lineup.
Diamondbacks take on Phillies in only afternoon game; Goldschmidt sitting
Vegas expects the Arizona-Philadelphia game to be a close high-scoring affair with a run total of nine runs. Arizona has opted to give some of their key players the day off as Paul Goldschmidt, Peter O'Brien, and Michael Bourn are all sitting. The Phillies are bringing a normal lineup against the recently activated Shelby Miller and Odubel Herrera (.390 wOBA vs RHP) is the top target for them if you're playing the all day slate. No one else in the lineup has a wOBA topping .320 against RHP so there is merit in giving Miller a shot as a GPP sleeper and also at stacking Phillies in what should be an under-owned stack given that it is Miller's first start in some time. For the Diamondbacks, they face Jeremy Hellickson and Jake Lamb is the top target for them with his .418 wOBA and .294 ISO against RHP. Socrates Brito is also worth a look as a minimum priced punt play.
Castillo sits against LD, Stripling tries to say hitless
Due to the fact that he hasn't allowed a base hit yet, Ross Stripling is likely to be more popular than he otherwise would be tonight. He has some ability with a 20+ K% at each minor league stop, but projects more as a back end starter over the long run. While that might make him over-owned, he's still very cheap without any other trustable pitchers in his price range. Arizona does have the 2nd lowest projected run line (3.47) on our Vegas Odds page. Note that he walked just as many as he struck out (four) in his debut with a very average nine swings and misses. The D'Backs are very average on the road and sit both Wellington Castillo and Chris Owings in favor of Brandon Drury and Chris Herrmann, which should be of little daily fantasy consequence. Arizona does have a couple of strong hitters even away from home. Goldschmidt has a wRC+ just above 150 both on the road and vs RHP since last season. David Peralta has a 123 wRC+ on the road and 149 wRC+ vs RHP over the same period. Socrates Brito (122 wRC+) remains a value play due to his platoon advantage and lineup spot (2nd). Jean Segura has been hot (220 wRC+ over the last week), but remains a bit tougher sell even atop the lineup with a 69 wRC+, .098 ISO, 20.2 Hard% vs RHP since last year. Stripling may be popular and worth his price tonight, but you don't have to avoid the two through four spots for Arizona in lineups where you aren't using him.
Brito back in two spot for D'Backs
After sitting last night, Socrates Brito is back in the two spot for the Diamondbacks against the righty Jason Hammel tonight. It's not that Hammel was bad last season, but he was only allowed to go beyond five innings in four of his last 15 starts and Arizona is playing like the new Colorado early on. Brito, the lefty, can still be a solid value play ahead of Goldschmidt and rigthy masher David Peralta, who has a career 163 wRC+ at home vs RHP in 434 PAs. Peralta is still somehow quite affordable on DraftKings at $3.6K.
David Peralta among the top overall OF options on tonight's slate; Goldy, Castillo in nice bounce-back spots
A few of the D'Backs burned DFS owners last night, but it's a great opportunity to go back to the well in order to get them at decreased ownership percentages in GPPs. David Peralta was one of the few bright spots for Arizona last night, and he's in a much more favorable spot tonight against a right-hander. He owned a .402 wOBA, .224 ISO and 37.3% hard-contact rate when hitting at home against RHP last year. While Paul Goldschmidt and Welington Castillo underwhelmed last night, both of them are very nice GPP targets against one of the weaker arms on tonight's slate. Both players possess solid power potential and Goldschmidt's ability to contribute in all stat categories keeps his ceiling sky high. The D'Backs also have the highest projected team total on tonight's slate. Outside of the three aforementioned names, Jake Lamb is an intriguing target at $2.2 on FanDuel while Socrates Brito is playable at near-minimum price hitting out of the two-hole.
