Stephen Vogt Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections
The Yankees, Brewers and Red Sox are at the top of a slate without an offense above 5.4 runs.
Seven of 22 teams on an 11 game slate have an implied run line between 5.01 and 5.38 with no other team above 4.71. The Yankees, Brewers and Red Sox are all within one-tenth of a run of each other at the top. Aaron Judge (176 wRC+, .356 ISO vs RHP) has been destroying baseballs and is the probably the top overall hitter on the board against Matt Andriese, who has allowed RHBs a .386 wOBA and 38.4 Hard% this year. The Brewers are looking like a powerful stack though. LHBs have a .357 wOBA (31.9 Hard%) against Homer Bailey and the Milwaukee bats are fairly affordable. Eric Thames (136 wRC+, .292 ISO vs RHP), Neil Walker (126 wRC+, .203 ISO vs RHP) and Travis Shaw (127 wRC+, .256 ISO vs RHP) all have a 40% or better hard hit rate over the last week and cost $3.4K or less on FanDuel, while Shaw is the only one of the three above $4K on DraftKings. Stephen Vogt (90 wRC+, .206 ISO vs RHP, 189 wRC+, 41.7 Hard% last seven days) could be a great value catcher, costing much less. RHBs have an even higher wOBA (.412) against Bailey, though Domingo Santana (124 wRC+, .228 ISO vs RHP) and Ryan Braun (113 wRC+, .215 ISO vs RHP) cost a bit more. The Red Sox are facing Marco Estrada, who's reverse split this year (.355 wOBA vs RHBs) should play right into the hands of the Red Sox, but without a lot of RH power and Chris Young (108 wRC+ vs RHP) being the only projected right-handed starter above a 100 wRC+ against RHP, it's tougher to find great fits.
Robert Stephenson's 9.9% Barrels/BBE worst on slate, but he also has a 15+ SwStr% three of last four
Robert Stephenson had a 9.9% Barrels/BBE that's highest on the board. His 88.3 mph aEV and 38.4% 95+ mph EV are both only behind Kendall Graveman tonight. LHBs have a .373 wOBA and 43.3 Hard% against him this year. RHBs have a .357 wOBA and 33.3 Hard%. He's walked 14.4% of batters in 34 innings (six starts, one relief appearance) since the All-Star break. Cincinnati is a power haven. The Brewers have a 17.1 HR/FB on the road and 18.9 HR/FB vs RHP this year. Players should certainly consider having some exposure to Milwaukee bats tonight. Neil Walker (.207), Travis Shaw (.258), Stephen Vogt (.198), Domingo Santana (.211) and Ryan Braun (.224) have all shown significant power against RHP this year. Robert Stephenson has struck out 18 of his last 51 batters faced over his last two starts, exceeding 90 pitches in each. He's had a SwStr rate above 15% in three of his last four starts. His hard hit rate has been below 28% in four of his last six starts with just one HR allowed over his last five. He costs less than $7K against an offense with a 25% strikeout rate on the road, vs RHP and over the last week. Robert Stephenson could help someone win a GPP tonight.
LHBs have a .388 wOBA against Ubaldo Jimenez since last season.
On the nine game day slate, Detroit has a big lead on the rest of the field with a 5.98 implied run line against Matt Cain. A predominantly RH lineup, batters from both side have pummeled Matt Cain for a .355 or better wOBA since last season. Alex Avila (180 wRC+, .296 ISO vs RHP this year) may be the top batter on the slate. Six more teams fall between 4.89 and 5.29 before a drop off. Aside from Detroit, LH Brewer bats at the top of the order may be most interesting against Ubaldo Jimenez. He's maintained about average contact management against batters from either side, but LHBs have a .388 wOBA against him since last year and over .400 this year. Travis Shaw (144 wRC+, .273 ISO vs RHP this year) is having a breakout season and while Eric Thames (140 wRC+, .302 ISO vs RHP) has taken a big step backward, his numbers against RHP remain great. Ryan Braun (122 wRC+, .240 ISO vs RHP since last season), Eric Sogard (151 wRC+, .144 ISO vs RHP this year), Jonathan Villar (97 wRC+, .148 ISO vs RHP since last season) and Stephen Vogt (100 wRC+, .177 ISO vs RHP since last season) are all daily fantasy friendly options if in the lineup against Ubaldo this afternoon. Brewers lefties are more of a GPP suggestion than cash as players never know what they're going to get with Jimenez, coming off eight shutout innings (eight strikeouts) against a predominantly RH Toronto lineup, following nine runs in 2.1 innings (four walks, one strikeout) against the Rays.
New OAK lineup: Canha, Vogt, Lowrie, K. Davis, Alonso, Healy, Phegely, Joyce, Rosales
After previously confirming their lineup for today's game against the New York Yankees earlier this morning, the Oakland Athletics have decided to completely reshuffle their batting order, which can be seen above or on the RotoGrinders Starting Lineups Page. The primary difference of note beside the actual batting order is that Trevor Plouffe is no longer in the Athletics lineup and has been replaced by Stephen Vogt.
Ian Happ may be the most popular cheap bat, but he's not the only one in a decent spot tonight
Ian Happ is the easy and likely to be very popular cheap bat ($2.7K or less) in the middle of the top projected offense tonight. Further down in the same lineup, Miguel Montero ($3K DK, $2.5K FD) should be a popular cheap Catcher. The batting order spot shouldn't matter much as few Catchers have envious lineup spots tonight. Stephen Vogt (unconfirmed) could be an alternative option for a couple hundred more. John Jaso ($3.1K DK, $2.3K FD) bats second against Jacob Turner as well as Adam Frazier ($3.3K DK, $2.3K FD) as a Happ alternative out of the leadoff spot. Luis Valbuena costs an absurd $2.2K on FanDuel, hitting cleanup against Miguel Gonzalez. Looking for Outfield affordables at the top of the lineup brings players potentially Matt Joyce ($3.3K DK, $2.7K FD), who should be in the Oakland lineup, and Leury Garcia ($2.6K on DK) leading off for the White Sox.
Plenty of Outfield help for players looking to save salary tonight
The demand for expensive pitching may not be that over-whelming tonight, but player are likely going to load up on expensive bats, meaning they'll still need to find savings somewhere. Luckily, there are some top and middle of the lineup bargains to help everyone do so tonight. We start off in the outfield with Joey Rickard (130 wRC+, .183 ISO vs LHP career) for just $2.7K or less against Danny Duffy (RHBs .332 wOBA, 34.1 Hard% since 2015). Tommy Pham (134 wRC+, .261 ISO vs RHP since 2015) moves up to second for just a few hundred more than Rickard. He faces Eddie Butler. RHBs had a .384 wOBA against him while pitching for the Rockies. Curtis Granderson (128 wRC+, .224 ISO vs RHP since 2015) costs just $2.5K on FanDuel against Matt Garza (LHBs .369 wOBA, 34.8 Hard% since 2015), the same price as Stephen Vogt (111 wRC+, .183 ISO vs RHP since 2015) and Jed Lowrie (95 wRC+ vs RHP since 2016) against Andrew Cashner (LHBs .372 wOBA since 2015). Jordy Mercer (105 wRC+, .148 ISO vs LHP since 2015) occasionally moves to the top of the lineup vs LHP (unconfirmed) and could serve as an alternate to Corey Seager for a low price ($3.1K DK, $2.3K FD) in Arizona (Corbin .356 wOBA vs RHBs since 2015). Ezequiel Carrera (85 wRC+ vs RHP since 2015) costs just $2.7K on DraftKings.
LHBs hammer Cashner (.372 wOBA since 2015) and Garza (.369 wOBA)
The Dodgers and Diamondbacks only two implied run lines above five tonight. The reason the Rockies are projected for a very mediocre 4.19 runs should be fairly obvious (it's Kershaw). There's nothing surprising about that, but there may not be an entirely trustworthy pitcher on the entire slate considering that the few elite arms are in terrible spots either in Coors or Yankee Stadium tonight. Ten additional teams have implied run lines between 4.5 and 5.0 tonight, meaning offense should be fairly well spread out after Dodger bats and Coors fading players should be able to still put together potentially high firepower offenses. First base is once again loaded with Thames (173 wRC+, .352 ISO vs RHP - Harvey), Carpenter (150 wRC+, .256 ISO vs RHP - Butler), Bruce (119 wRC+, .270 ISO vs RHP - Garza), Freeman (160 wRC+, 283 ISO vs RHP - Urena), and Alonso (303 wRC+, 5 HRs last seven days, 50% fly ball rate this year vs Cashner) all viable options aside from Bellinger (also OF eligible on DK) and Goldschmidt. While Garza has been better in three starts against poor offenses this season (Reds, Braves & Pirates), LHBs still have a 369 wOBA against him since 2015. Mets LHBs (Conforto, Bruce, Granderson, and Walker) comprise a viable and more affordable stack to the top projected offenses with a significant park upgrade in Milwaukee. Of the four, only Granderson has a hard hit rate below 40% over the last week and he costs just $3.7K on DK, $2.5K on FD. A's LHBs also look to be in a great overall spot in Texas against Andrew Cashner (LHBs .372 wOBA since 2015), though we're looking at cheaper bats like Joyce, Lowrie and Vogt over offensive prowess aside from Alonso and K.Davis, who plays strongly against same handed pitching (125 wRC+, .278 ISO since 2015).
Kyle Gibson has notched just a 2.8% K-BB% through five starts this season
Kyle Gibson has been atrocious to start the 2017 campaign with just 13 strikeouts and 10 walks in 22 innings pitched that has equated to a gaudy 8.06 ERA and 5.27 SIERA through five starts. Gibson used to be decent at inducing ground balls, but that number has gradually been decreasing each season, culminating this year with just a 47.6% ground ball rate. Given his career 15.5% strikeout rate and 12.2% whiff rate in 2017, a ground ball rate that low just won't cut it at the Major League level. As far as Gibson's ground ball splits, he has been decent at keeping the ball on the ground versus right-handed batters (53.8%) but has been relatively inconsistent with those rates in recent years, evidenced by his propensity to keep lefties far more often in the 2016 season. To summarize, essentially hitters from both sides of the plate are firmly in play for all formats on the Early slate and stack is perfectly viable in tournaments as well. Khris Davis (129 wRC+, .356 wOBA) is far and away the top Oakland bat to target given his .295 ISO versus right-handed pitching since last season, while Matt Joyce (141 wRC+, .381 wOBA, .234 ISO in 2016), Ryon Healy (108 wRC+, .325 wOBA, .181 ISO since 2016), Yonder Alonso, and Stephen Vogt (.161 ISO) remain as secondary options that are likely best utilized to round out an Athletics stack in tournaments.
LHBs had a .406 wOBA and 44.4 Hard% against A.J. Griffin last year.
The Oakland A's have a middling projection of just 4.5 runs tonight, but could make for an interesting LH stacking proposition under favorable Texas conditions against a A.J. Griffin, who allowed a .406 wOBA and 44.4 Hard% to lefties last year. Jed Lowrie has not hit RHP well (73 wRC+ since 2015), but is off to a hot start this season overall (197 wRC+, 36.4 Hard%). Stephen Vogt (115 wRC+, .187 ISO vs RHP since 2015) is an affordable Catcher who has made 44.7% of his contact in the air against RHP since 2015. Matt Joyce (141 wRC+, .234 ISO vs RHP last year) is extremely cheap at the top of the order and the other LH bat, Yonder Alonso (101 wRC+, .114 ISO vs RHP since 2015), well, he's a player in the lineup too. Maybe players should consider sticking to batters higher in the order. Griffin has been much better against RHBs (.304 wOBA, 32.2 Hard%), but Khris Davis (124 wRC+, .274 ISO since 2015) and Ryon Healy (131 wRC+, .213 ISO career) have both been very successful against RHP.
In their fourth meeting this season, Oakland looks to finally solve Collin McHugh
Collin McHugh is fresh off one of his best starts of the season, but he does own a troubling 4.91 ERA since the All-Star break and has limped his way to a 5.53 ERA on the road this season. With that said, he's pitched quiet well in three prior meetings against this Oakland team and the Athletics own a subpar .304 team wOBA against right-handed pitching this season. Still, with just three games to work with on this afternoon slate, you'll certainly need to give Oakland a long look. The usual suspects of Stephen Vogt and Danny Valencia look like fine options, but it's been Marcus Semien that has given McHugh the most trouble in the past as he's gone 7 for 15 with three doubles and a home run in their previous meetings. Meanwhile, Ryan Healy quietly leads this team with a .361 wOBA against right-handed pitching and likely won't draw much attention. Khris Davis remains out.
