Tarik Cohen Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections

Tarik Cohen (knee) placed on season-ending injured reserve

The Bears' initial fears were confirmed with an MRI on Monday morning, and the team announced that Cohen will be placed on injured reserve for the remainder of the season with a torn ACL in his knee. Prior to the injury, Cohen had 21 yards on two carries to go along with three receptions for 20 yards on six targets and was on pace to put together a decent stat line in the eventual comeback win over the Atlanta Falcons yesterday afternoon. Barring an outside free agent signing, Ryan Nall is the only other running back currently on the Bears' active roster to back up David Montgomery, but it does seem likely that Artavis Pierce will be recalled from the practice squad later in the week to provide depth at the position. Chicago also has the option of using Cordarelle Patterson in a hybrid running back and wide receiver role, though Montgomery still appears to be in line to assume a much larger role in the passing game moving forward.

David Montgomery, Cordarrelle Patterson Both Expected to Play

Both Montgomery and Patterson are expected to play Sunday, despite being officially listed as questionable. Montgomery made significant progress this week after dealing with a groin injury throughout training camp. His availability would be a significant blow to Tarik Cohen's value this week. Patterson should have a small role at best in the offense if healthy and active.

Bears Cut RB Mike Davis

The Bears cut RB Mike Davis, who they signed as a free agent before the 2019 season. The Bears made this move because of the compensatory pick they may receive and the emergence of rookie RB David Montgomery. Davis will likely be claimed by another NFL team looking for backfield depth.

Bears RB Mike Davis (Personal) is Inactive Vs. Vikings

Davis will miss today's game due to the passing of his father. David Montgomery and Tarik Cohen are the only two active running backs for the Bears this afternoon and make for interesting tournament plays in small-slate contests.

On the Rise

Matt Nagy knows what he has in Tarik Cohen, and that is an explosive playmaker who can be deployed in a number of different settings. His snap and touch count have been steadily on the rise of late, and Cohen is basically even with Howard in the pecking order when it comes to Chicago running backs right now. I love the upside that he provides in GPP formats, and the price tag is still too cheap. Cohen has been the better option for the last two games now, and it would be no surprise if that continues in a sneaky potential shootout with the Patriots here.

Jordan Howard dealing with a sprained AC joint

The running back has been playing through a shoulder injury and we now have more details, it's a sprained AC joint, per Ian Rapoport. It could explain why he's been off to a slow start this season. Howard has averaged just 2.7 yards per carry on 22 attempts. Tarik Cohen is the clear beneficiary of Howard's injury as it'll hinder Howard's ability to be an effective pass blocker, which will keep Cohen on for more receiving opportunities. The rookie has hauled in eight catches in each of his first two games and he should continue to have favorable game flow as the Bears are currently 7.5-point underdogs against the Steelers today.

Jordan Howard removed from injury report

Kendall Wright and Benny Cunningham were also removed from the report Friday. Howard is rehabbing a shoulder injury, which could still be a problem for the running back on Sunday. Although he's going to start, it may be harder for him to powerfully run the ball, especially near the goal line, and it could hurt his ability to block in pass protection. As long as Howard is banged up, Tarik Cohen will benefit. The rookie has already piled up 16 receptions in his first two games and game flow could work in his favor again this week; the Bears are currently 7-point dogs.

Jordan Howard (shoulder) limited in practice Thursday

Howard (shoulder) was seen sporting a sling after their game against the Buccaneers on Sunday but he's been able to practice two days in a row, which is a good indication he'll be able to suit up Sunday. Jordan Howard, Prince Amukamara, and Kyle Long limited in practice Wednesday, Markus Wheaton returned to full participation

Howard (shoulder) was seen sporting a sling after their game against the Buccaneers on Sunday. As long as he's banged up, Tarik Cohen will benefit. The rookie has already piled up 16 receptions in his first two games and game flow could work in his favor again this week; the Bears are currently 7.5-point dogs. Wheaton (finger) hasn't been able to play in a game yet this year but he looks to be all set for their Week 3 matchup with the Steelers. Cornerback Amukamara (ankle) has also missed their first two contests. While the Bears held Julio Jones in check in Week 1, Mike Evans got the best of them for a 7/93/1 line. If he's able to suit up this week, he'll have a difficult challenge with Antonio Brown.

Jordan Howard (shoulder) seen wearing a sling after game Sunday

Howard was listed questionable heading into Sunday's matchup with the Buccaneers due to a shoulder injury, so this is worrisome. He ended up being out-touched by Tarik Cohen 15 to 9 and out-gained 68 to 7. Following another eight-reception day for Cohen, it seems clear he's a top target in the passing game and will continue to take snaps away when the Bears are in passing situations and/or trailing, which will likely be often. We'll find out more on Wednesday but a lingering shoulder injury is bad for a running back, especially in scoring situations near the goal line. The Bears host the Steelers in Week 3 and opened as 7.5-point underdogs.
