Thomas Greiss has been one of the best goalies in the NHL to start this season, posting a 4-2-1 record with a 1.98 GAA and a .940 SV%. Tonight, he faces a surprising Canucks team, although they'll be playing the second of a back-to-back and should have tired legs. Greiss has likely benefited from a new coaching staff, including head coach Barry Trotz. The Islanders are solid favorites at -170 and I expect Greiss to pick up the win.

Despite having a rather large nine game slate on deck, it is once again a struggle to find a goalie I completely trust for cash games. With that being said, I am leaning with Thomas Greiss. The New York Islanders are the biggest favorite on the board, and the Detroit Red Wings are not an offense to fear. The Red Wings have struggled to produce offensively all season long, resulting in them sitting 26th overall in the National Hockey League in goals per game (2.63), a number that decreases both on the road (2.36), and in the month of December (2.17). Greiss may not be the highest scoring goaltender on the night, but I do think he comes away with the all-important win, while allowing two goals against or less in the process.

Thomas Greiss will start for the streaking Islanders who are 8-0-1 on home ice. Ottawa has dropped seven straight games and scored a paltry 2.18 goals per game in November. While the Islanders are not the best team defensively, Greiss is a solid goaltender. Across the industry, Greiss is far too cheap given the matchup and spot for a team that has won seven of their last eight games. At the very least, Greiss should have a great chance at picking up the all-important victory. Look for him to see upwards of 35 shots on goal, creating some massive upside in tournaments and as a secondary cash game play if strapped for salary.

After a sluggish start to the season -- which follows a down season overall -- the New York Islanders have improved their defense quite a bit. Quietly they have improved their expected goals allowed per 60 minutes of 5v5 play to 2.12, just the 23rd highest rate in the league. The Colorado Avalanche, meanwhile, remain poor on offense as they enter the game with the third lowest 5v5 expected goal rate. On an individual level Greiss has not been very good this year, but this is as good of a get-well matchup as there is.
