Todd Gurley Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections

Julio Jones and Todd Gurley both active Sunday

As expected from earlier reports, both Julio Jones and Todd Gurley are active Sunday for the Falcons.

Schefter: Allen Robinson, Darnell Mooney, Julio Jones, Todd Gurley, Carlos Hyde, Kalen Ballage all expected to play. Colt McCoy expected to start for Daniel Jones

Adam Schefter's early Sunday news dump mainly consisted of confirming that questionable players are expected to play: Allen Robinson, Darnell Mooney, Julio Jones, Todd Gurley, Carlos Hyde, and Kalen Ballage are all expected to play. Colt McCoy is also expected to start for Daniel Jones. These players' statuses will be confirmed when inactives come out, but they all appear fairly safe to play today.

Todd Gurley (knee) ruled out for Sunday; Julio Jones (hamstring) questionable

Gurley was unable to practice this week, and he's officially been ruled out of Sunday's Week 12 matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders due to a knee injury, while Jones is listed as questionable on the Falcons' injury with a hamstring injury he sustained in last week's loss. Brian Hill already has a 28.8% snap rate with Gurley healthy this year, so he should receive the first crack at the starting running back gig with Gurley sidelined, and this coaching regime hasn't been hesitant to hand over the reins to the backfield to Hill in the past as he averaged 14 touches in two starts during the 2019 season. There's little doubt that Ito Smith and Qadree Ollison will see their fair share of work in this weekend's contest, but Hill appears to have a sizable floor at minimum price across the daily fantasy industry.

Elite Matchup

Todd Gurley should see a lot of work against this weak Cincinnati Bengals run defense. This year the Bengals are giving up 189 yards per game on the ground, which is the 29 yards more than the second worst team. Gurley saw the most carries of the season last week with 18 and I think he could get 20 in this great matchup. They should be ahead most of this game, and this should lead to a heavy dose of running the football.

Malcolm Brown (Ankle) Ruled Out for Sunday

Brown has been ruled out for Sunday, meaning Darrell Henderson will fill the RB2 role for the Rams this weekend in London. He has gotten 17 rushes attempts over the past two weeks, totaling 70 yards and 0 TD's.

RB In Elite Matchup

Last time I pinned Gurley as a conviction play, he got into the end zone twice and was one of the better RB plays on the slate, that potential is here once again for the former superstar RB. While he is no longer an elite RB due to his reduced role, Gurley is still getting nearly 50% of the teams rushes and 9% of the teams targets, despite missing one game this season. The Rams are currently being a 13 point edge by Vegas, suggesting Gurley should be in a very positive game script here, especially considering his team implied total is at 30.5. Gurley is a shell of his superstar-self, but he is also priced as so, as he's cheaper than guys like Chris Carson, Nick Chubb, and Leonard Fournette, and much cheaper than elite RBs like CMC, Barkley and Kamara.

Rams RB Malcolm Brown Inactive Today Against Falcons

As expected, Brown is out today and Henderson will back up Gurley.

Todd Gurley (Thigh) Expected to Play Sunday

Gurley will return to action after missing one week with a thigh bruise. He is averaging just over 15 touches per game, down significantly from the 20+ touches he got his first four years. He does have 5 rushing touchdowns on the year, but hasn't broken 100 yards on the ground yet.

Todd Gurley (Thigh Bruise) Limited Wednesday in Practice

Gurley missed last game and was limited Wednesday in practice with a thigh bruise. Limited can mean a wide range of things, so it is too early to predict his availability this week.

Rams RB Todd Gurley (Quad) is Out Sunday Vs. San Francisco

Gurley was trending toward not playing since Thursday, and now he has been officially ruled out. Malcolm Brown likely draws the start, while rookie Darrell Henderson and John Kelly should see some snaps in the backfield as well.

Brown is priced close to the minimum across the industry, making him a cash game lock and probably the highest-owned tournament player of the main slate (unless David Johnson ends up getting ruled out for the Cardinals, which would make Chase Edmonds a lock-and-load play at running back as well). Brown's cheap price tag provides incredible salary relief that will probably increase the ownership of expensive studs such as Patrick Mahomes, Deshaun Watson, Lamar Jackson, Ezekiel Elliot, Dalvin Cook, Julio Jones, DeAndre Hopkins, Michael Thomas, Cooper Kupp, and Travis Kelce.

The matchup isn't great - the 49ers rank 5th in DVOA against the run - but the volume Brown is projected to see is too good to fade. The Rams are also home favorites with a 26.75 implied total in an important divisional game that could end up deciding the winner of the NFC West. Although the Rams traded up to select Henderson in the third round in the 2019 NFL draft, he has only seen the field for one carry so far this season. Remember, the Rams matched an offer sheet to retain Brown this offseason, which shows they trust him to carry the load.
