Tony Romo to make his PGA Tour debut
Ex Dallas Cowboys quarterback and current CBS announcer Tony Romo will make his PGA debut at this week's Corales Championship. Romo will join the Steph Curry as the second well-known sports star to get an invitation to compete with the best players in the world in the last few months. Curry shot two rounds of 74 to miss the cut at The Ellie Mae Classic last August. Much like Curry, we can expect Romo to struggle on golf's biggest stage and he should not be in play even as a deep GPP sleeper this week. Romo who still lives in the north Dallas area played in one local professional event this spring where he failed to break 80. While his celebrity status is a nice addition to an event that will struggle to draw marquee names, we should not expect much out of Romo this week.
Dallas still expected to play all three quarterbacks Sunday
The Cowboys' stars - Dak Prescott, Ezekiel Elliott, and Dez Bryant - are expected to be pulled early. Behind Prescott, Dallas plans to play both Mark Sanchez and Tony Romo. Given the workload split, none of the quarterbacks will be viable fantasy plays. Zeke and Dez are extremely risky choices, as they may only have a couple of series or a quarter to produce fantasy points. Darren McFadden and Lance Dunbar are both likely to get work behind Elliott. McFadden is a potential tournament option; he had 14 touches last week against the Lions. Wide receivers Cole Beasley, Terrance Williams, and Brice Butler will have Mark Sanchez and a rusty Tony Romo throwing to them, so they're also very risky options, despite a bump in opportunities. Overall, Dallas is not a great team to target this week.
Tony Romo out for the season
It was expected after initial reports that Tony Romo's season was done after reinjuring his shoulder in yesterday's game and that has been confirmed today by owner Jerry Jones who said that Romo has a hairline fracture that will not require surgery. Matt Cassel will finish the season as the Cowboys QB.
Tony Romo's collarbone has healed, will play on Sunday
Romo returns just in time to try to break the Cowboys out of their 7 game losing streak. Between Brandon Weeden and Matt Cassel, guys like Dez Bryant and Jason Witten have been underperforming in DFS terms thanks to a big drop off in talent at quarterback. This week may be a great time to buy low on them, as the price of both players has slowly fallen while Romo was out of action. While the Dolphins have a solid pass rush, they have some holes in the secondary and Bryant's size may give Brent Grimes problems, so pairing up Romo with either Bryant or Witten could be a nice GPP combination that will come at a low ownership percentage.
