Tony Wolters Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections

Rockies currently have an implied total above 7.5 vs. Agrazal in Coors

Over 49 big league innings this year, Agrazal has posted a 4.41 ERA, but with a 6.38 xFIP and 5.84 SIERA. He’s also posted a miniscule 11.9% K rate and 5.8% SwStr. While he has done a good job managing contact (5.5% barrel rate, 86.5 MPH aEV, .328 xwOBA on contact) lack of swing-and-miss stuff and reliance on a low BABIP is certainly not a sustainable approach in Coors. Once Agrazal is chased from the game, Rockies hitters will get at bats vs. a Pirates bullpen that has posted a below average .325 xwOBA over the past month. Charlie Blackmon (.360 xwOBA vs. RHP this year), Trevor Story (.341), Ryan McMahon (.335), Nolan Arenado (.331), Daniel Murphy (.295), Ian Desmond (.293) and Tony Wolters (.279) are all in play tonight. Daniel Murphy has led the team over the past 2 weeks with a .393 xwOBA after struggling mightily for the majority of the year. Murphy comes at a discounted cost of just $4.5k on Draftkings. Nolan Arenado has also seen the ball well over the past 2 weeks with a .384 xwOBA. Ryan McMahon ($4.6k), Ian Desmond ($4.3k), Sam Hilliard ($4k) and Tony Wolters ($3.5k) also look like nice values for tonight’s matchup. The Rockies currently have a 7.61 implied total.

Tony Wolters (hand) scratched Tuesday; Chris Iannetta replaces

Wolters has been scratched from the Colorado Rockies original confirmed lineup and will not start in Tuesday’s matchup against the Arizona Diamondbacks due to a right-hand contusion. He’ll be replaced in the lineup by Chris Iannetta, who will now handle the catching duties and slot directly into Wolters' vacated eighth spot in the order. However, the remainder of the Rockies lineup will stay intact offensively as they face off against right-hander Merrill Kelly at home this evening.

Underrated Stack Friday Night

The Rockies face the Braves and Mike Foltynewicz in Suntrust Park Saturday night. The Rockies do not have the benefit of Coors tonight, but they do have a few things working in their favor. Mike Foltynewicz threw just 2 innings in Spring Training due to an elbow injury. Foltynewicz made 4 rehab starts in the minors, posting an ugly 6.11 ERA / 5.82 xFIP / 6.3 K-BB%. He’ll likely be shaking off some rust, to say the least, in his start tonight. Charlie Blackmon (.347 xwOBA vs. RHP since 2018), Trevor Story (.347), Daniel Murphy (.357), Nolan Arenado (.326) and David Dahl (.353) make up the top 5 of the Rockies’ lineup, in that order. With the exception of Tony Wolters and Nolan Arenado, every batter in the Rockies order has an xwOBA above .340 over the last 10 days. Rockies’ hitters also have the benefit of a very friendly hitter’s umpire tonight in Dana Demuth. The Rockies have a 4.31 implied line vs. Foltynewicz and the Braves.

Top LHB at Coors may not be Blackmon (but still use him anyway)

Jacob Nix has never been above a 21 K% at any level of the minors and had just six innings above AA when the Padres called him up. He pitched well against the Phillies without allowing a run in six innings, but lasted just 10 batters against the Diamondbacks last time out. His third start will be at Coors and the Rockies are a full run above the only other team above five implied runs tonight at 6.5. Believe it or not, Carlos Gonzalez (135 wRC+, .244 ISO) has better numbers than Charlie Blackmon (113 wRC+, .233 ISO) against RHP over the last calendar year, but play all your Rockies...except maybe Tony Wolters (32 wRC+, .090 ISO). Remember that the Padres have the top bullpen in baseball over the last 30 days though (2.91 FIP, 23.3 K-BB%)

Ryan Hanigan scratched Friday; Tony Wolters replaces and will bat eighth

Hanigan has officially been scratched from the Colorado Rockies lineup for tonight's game against the Chicago White Sox due to a back injury. He'll be replaced in the lineup by Tony Wolters, who will take over the catching duties and bat eighth. Since Wolters is slotting directly into Hanigan's spot in the lineup, the remainder of the Rockies previously confirmed batting order will remain unchanged.

Rockies have some top bats with the top run projection (5.37) at top prices

Matt Cain has pitched a bit better over his last few starts, but he's pitching in Colorado tonight and has allowed a .399 wOBA to LHBs since last season and a .348 to RHBs that isn't all that much better. The Rockies project several top overall bats tonight in Blackmon (109 wRC+, .171 ISO vs RHP since 2015), Carlos Gonzalez (142 wRC+, .297 ISO vs RHP since 2015), Arenado (127 wRC+, .300 ISO vs RHP since 2015) and even Trevor Story (106 wRC+, .301 ISO vs RHP), who remains playable lower in the lineup because he's a SS and because Coors. Reynolds (98 wRC+, .158 ISO vs RHP since 2015) and LeMahieu (88 wRC+ vs RHP since 2015) aren't nearly as impressive, but cost less than $4K. Parra (59 wRC+ vs RHP this season) has fallen off the map and may be the bat to omit from stacks along with Tony Wolters (40 wRC+, .062 ISO vs RHP).

Cristhian Adames bats lead off for Rockies, Ben Paulsen, D.J. LeMahieu, Tony Wolters out

Granted, there really isn't much to like about the Rockies with Jake Arrieta on the mound for the Cubs. The Rockies have the lowest run total of the day at 2.49 and get the tough combination of Arrieta at Wrigley. Charlie Blackmon was just placed on the 15-day DL, and now they will be without Ben Paulsen, D.J. LeMahieu, and Tony Wolters for this one. While there is no doubt that the Cubs are likely going to blow them out, the only somewhat appealing bat for the Rockies is Cristhian Adames in the leadoff spot for Colorado. At minimum price, Adames offers a punt option at a position that is sometimes hard to fill, and if he can at least put a couple of balls in play and maybe draw a walk he could pay off well and allow you to spend up at some other positions. As the leadoff hitter for the Rockies who have four or five other powerful bats behind him, hopefully they could maybe bring him around for a run despite the tough match up. It would not be wise to deploy more than one or two Rockies vs. an ace pitcher like Arrieta in Wrigley, but at minimum price it is tough to ignore Adames. Please note that the 1:05 slate has already begun and the Cubs-Rockies game gets underway at 2:20, so this could be a good opportunity for a late swap on a site like DraftKings.

Game at Coors? You know the drill...

Avoid pitchers, stack hitters is the mantra whenever there is a game at Coors and today is no different, especially with the average arms of Matt Cain and Jorge De La Rosa are on the mound. From the Giants side, the right-handed bats of Buster Posey, Hunter Pence, and Matt Duffy are your top targets and Kelby Tomlinson is a cheap right-handed punt option (albeit hitting 9th, but it is Coors). From the Rockies you will want to attack with the left-handed bats of Carlos Gonzalez, Gerardo Parra and value options Ben Paulsen and Tony Wolters. Mix in some Trevor Story, Nolan Arenado, and Mark Reynolds for some fun.
