Injury Concerns Could Lower Ownership for Superstar
McDavid missed the team's skills competition due to "illness", but I have my doubts as to how sick McDavid was. I think the team was just giving him such deserved rest due to his heavy workload this season. McDavid should be back in action tonight at home against the Sabres, but some may be scared off by the "questionable" title. He's been averaging about 24 minutes a game lately, a total generally only seen by defensemen. His linemates have been a revolving door, but it appears Ty Rattie and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins will get the first crack at playing with the all-world talent.
Heavy minutes for this super star and line-mates
Connor McDavid is arguably the most talented playing in the NHL, and is playing a ton of minutes. He played 27 minutes last game. McDavid recently reunited with Leon Draisaitl, and Alex Chiasson, makes this line stackable again. The Arizona Coyotes haven’t been terrible defensively, but they do give up high danger chances in bunches. They are allowing 11.91 HDCA/60. All three play together at even strength and on the power-play. Darnell Nurse is the defenseman you will want to add to this stack as he correlates on the top special teams unit as well.
Update- Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Ty Rattie are flanking McDavid now. They are still in a good spot. Liked them more with Draisaitl on the top line.
Great price tag on Edmonton top liner
Ty Rattie checks in as a dirt-cheap option despite an average road matchup against the Arizona Coyotes. Since his move to the top line with Connor McDavid, Rattie has nine shots on goal and three assists in three games. Rattie is just $2,800 on DraftKings and his price on FanDuel ($3,600) is not prohibitive. Even when Rattie does not find the scoresheet, he usually contributes a couple shots which is all we are really looking for at such a low price.
The best player in the world is too cheap.
And no, I'm not talking about Auston Matthews. Connor McDavid comes in at just $7,400 on DraftKings which is pretty cheap for him. It makes sense given that he and the Edmonton Oilers are in Winnipeg to take on the Jets in a difficult matchup. He's playing between Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Ty Rattie, a line that was dominant in the preseason. Additionally, RNH joins McDavid on the top power play unit which gives the two-man stack elite correlation.
Don't Sleep On This Superstar Tonight
One of the few bright spots in an otherwise disappointing season for Edmonton, Connor McDavid continues to excite with a league leading 103 points this year. Skating alongside Nugent-Hopkins and Rattie on Edmonton's top line, McDavid draws a sneaky good matchup against a banged up Vegas team that will be without a number of their key playmakers for tonight's game. This bodes well for the superstar McDavid, who should have no problems paying off his steep price tag with the heavy ice time he sees on a regular basis in a game that features plenty of goal potential.
Rattie keeps rolling
As long as Ty Rattie stays slotted alongside Connor McDavid, it's going to be hard to ignore him as a value option in DFS. Rattie has scored four goals and added three assists over his last six games as McDavid's wing-man and is averaging over 16 minutes of ice-time per game during that span. We've seen his asking price start to tick up a bit, but he's still underpriced given the recent production (specially on FanDuel). If you're looking to use McDavid this evening, pair him with Rattie to help offset some of the salary demands.
Edmonton sharpshooter enjoying ice time with Connor McDavid
Connor McDavid has been looking for competent wingers all season long, and it seems like he finally has found them. Edmonton will not be partaking in the postseason, but they are still playing hard. Captain Connor has consecutive multi-goal games and Rattie has benefited highly from McDavid's torrid second half of the season. In Ty's last five games, since joining the top line, he has three goals and three assists while taking 11 shots on goal. Whereas Rattie is priced more appropriately on DraftKings ($5,400), he is as automatic as it gets on FanDuel. Rattie checks in at a salivating $3,700 which opens a wealth of salary to spend on a superstar like Tyler Seguin or Jamie Benn. Save some salary with Rattie once again.
An easy way to afford Connor McDavid
It would take something unique to make Ty Rattie an interesting DFS play to say the least. With that said, getting the chance to play alongside Connor McDavid is certainly unique. Rattie has averaged nearly 15 minutes of ice-time alongside McDavid over the last three games and former second round pick has taken advantage of the opportunity by scoring a pair of goals and also adding an assist. Tonight, he draws a favorable matchup against an Erik Karlsson-less Ottawa team that has surrendered the second most goals against per game this season in the NHL (3.39 GA/G).
