Less than ten minutes to roster lock for the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-AM
Typically speaking Pro-Am events have almost no movement in terms of field updates. This week however had more than its fair share, and due to both the timing and the status of players involved it could be an impactful week in terms of roster adjustment. With two of the bigger names in this week's field out ( Berger & Zalatoris) there is a lot of late-week shake-up in terms of POWN. Please double-check your lineups to make sure you have removed any lineups with the above-mentioned players. Will Zalatoris is no longer in the field
Will Zalatoris has tested positive for Covid-19 and will not play this week. He has been replaced by Greg Chalmers. Please remove Zalatoris from your lineups.
Elite Option For A Young Rising Star
If it’s not broken, don’t fix it. Zalatoris got into the field with a top ten at the Corales, and he did it with a blitzing seven under par round on Sunday. I love targeting golfers who come into the new week off a red hot Sunday round, and Zalatoris is no exception. As I stated last week, despite his lack of PGA Tour experience, this is still a golfer who was sitting at the top of statistical leaderboards all over the Korn Ferry Tour — and he’s certainly not out of place in a weaker field PGA Tour event. This week’s field is stronger, sure, but it’s still not elite. Remember, Zalatoris leads the Korn Ferry Tour in greens in regulation, ball striking, and scoring average, and he sits sixth in total driving. After yet another top ten a week ago, he is currently riding a stretch with 13 top 20 finishes in a row since mid June. Expect Zalatoris to be in the mix again down in Mississippi.
Bursting Onto The Scene
It certainly seems odd to see a 24 year-old Korn Ferry Tour regular as the most expensive golfer and the betting market favorite for a PGA Tour event. Alas, nothing should surprise us any more in the year 2020. Zalatoris is in this event on a sponsor exemption, and he also just happens to be coming off a top ten finish in the U.S. Open. Oh, and he leads the Korn Ferry Tour in greens in regulation, ball striking, and scoring average. He’s sixth in total driving. He is currently riding a stretch with 12 top 20 finishes in a row since mid June. Don’t be fooled by the fact that he doesn’t have his PGA Tour card yet; he’s the best up and coming golfer since Morikawa burst onto the scene over a year ago. He’s a fine play despite the hefty salary tag.
Hometown Pedigree
This is where the gut play comes into play. I don't have any strong stats to back this one up unless you want to go back to his college stats where he crushed at Wake Forest. He was an elite amateur who skipped his senior year to turn pro. It hasn't been instant rainbows and butterflies on the big stage, but this week presents a good chance to pop. Big Z went to high school just down the road and his coach, Cameron McCormick, is based out of Trinity Forest which tells us he should be quite comfortable at Trinity Forest this week. If you want a super deep dart throw with big upside, Zalatoris deserves a look.
