Zach Neal Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections
Zach Neal expected to be recalled from AAA and start for the A's on Thursday
Lineup note: Zach Neal expected to be recalled from AAA and start for the A's on Thursday
Top five bats in Angels order have a 150+ wRC+ over the last week and face a pitcher on three days rest
Zach Neal was forced into this start after throwing 85 pitches just four days ago and will likely not be long for this game one way or another before getting into a mediocre at best bullpen. Batters from either side have a wOBA just above .330 against him, though he's only struck out three of 106 LHBs. He won't see many of those tonight, but the top five bats in the order for the Angels all have a wRC+ of at least 159 over the last week with Andrelton Simmons (79 wRC+) the only one below a 105 wRC+ vs RHP this season. Unfortunately, each of the other four cost $4.9K or more on DraftKings, though Calhoun (107 wRC+, .181 ISO vs RHP this season) is below $3.5K on FanDuel. Mike Trout (174 wRC+, .282 ISO vs RHP this season) is certainly a bat worth paying up for. He has a 357 wRC+ and 62.5 Hard% over the last week.
Brandon Moss looks to take advantage of Neal's inability to strike out LHBs
Zachary Neal has a minuscule 6% strikeout percentage over the last couple of weeks, indicating that he may not have what it takes to strike out major league batters. In only 38 innings, it appears that Neal is more susceptible to LHBs, holding a pitiful 3% K rate against LHBs. Brandon Moss has a solid 157 wRC+ against RHP, but strikes out 30% of the time. Moss’s 30% strikeout rate should be mitigated by Neal’s inability to put LHB away, helping DFS players to enjoy Moss’s 0.375 ISO without his usual strikeout risk. Look to take advantage of this rare opportunity to play Brandon Moss on a night where he should put the ball in play in all three or four plate appearances.
In limited innings, Zach Neal has shown that he will be allowing contact to LHBs
Neal has only logged 18 innings of at-bats versus LHBs but has shown that he will have trouble racking up strikeouts. In those 18 innings, Neal has a k% of 1% versus LHBs. This fact alone makes Adam Eaton a high floor play, considering Eaton's wRC+ versus RHPs sits at 111, and his OBP has been 0.353 with an 18% strikeout rate. If we assume that Eaton is 20% more likely to put the ball in play, he is a no-brainer cash game play in the outfield today.
Orioles LHB draw great matchup despite massive ballpark downgrade
The Orioles are set to face relative unknown, Zach Neal, on the road at O.co Coliseum. Neal has a very minimal sample size for us base relative information of off, but he only has recorded one strikeout in 12 innings against left-handed batters, and appears to a significant ground ball lean (56.4%). With the low strikeout rate to lefties (2.0%) Neal has posted this far, we should be searching for some home run upside in the Baltimore lineup. Pedro Alvarez (133 wRC+, .373 wRC+, .289 ISO vs LHP) and Chris Davis (.228 ISO vs RHP) both clearly fit this bill. Neal has been much better against right-handed batters but Manny Machado (142 wRC+, .386 wOBA, .272 ISO vs RHP), Mark Trumbo (136 wRC+, .378 wOBA, .264 ISO vs RHP), and Adam Jones (121 wRC+, .355 wOBA, .209 ISO vs RHP) certainly have the talent to take advantage and are in consideration for tournament stacks.
