Big Tourney Recap: FanDuel Survivor $200K Week 5
We just finished the fifth week of FanDuel’s $200K Survivor. Yours truly and Dan Back are still alive. After starting with a field of over 1,000 entries, we’re down to the most rugged survivors. Here’s a look back of how last week went down.

Breakdown
• 40 Entries Remaining
• 17 Players
• Dan Still Alive!
Remaining Players With Multiple Entries
• theclone – 7
• bcalicore – 6
• ganondorf – 5
• lovesbases – 4
• okwhynot – 4
• kingspoint11 – 3
Keys to Success
•Playing Felix Hernandez – Alex Cobb (1 point) and Chris Sale (7 points for $10K, ouch!) were disappointing. Cain was an ok value, but clearly Felix (15 Points) was the right choice. All fourteen entries with him advanced.
•Playing Matt Adams – All but one entry used Adams. Sorry pointshaving, but when the entire field gets a 16.5 edge on you, it’s hard to come back, especially with Alex Cobb.
•Not Playing the Rockies – Those that used Cain (myself included) used the extra cash to afford Rockies like Troy Tulowitzki (-1 points), Corey Dickerson (1.5 points), or Charlie Blackmon (0.25 points), oops!

Breakdown
• 30 Entries Remaining
• 13 Players
• Dan Still Alive!
The following players had multiple entries remaining
• bcalicore – 5
• theclone – 5
• ganondorf – 4
• kingspoint11 – 3
• lovesbases – 3
• okwhynot – 3
Keys to success
•Have a good pitcher – Garrett Richards (14.33 Points, owned by 23.3% of the field) or A.J. Burnett (12 Points, owned by 56.7% of the field) were almost mandatory. Corey Kluber (19 Points, only owned by sirmalcolm) was acceptable too. Hisashi Iwakuma (2 Points, 16.7% of the field) was the touch of death sadly, and the end of kingspoint11.
•Playing Jose Reyes – Owned by 50% of the field, Reyes earned 11.5 Points. Of the other shortstops selected, only Aybar (9.75 Points) came close. Sadly, socrdave paired him with Iwakuma.
This round had a tough ceiling to crack with a bar of 40.5. I’d like to give a tip of the hat to lovesbases, who managed to advance despite using Iwakuma. Luckily, Jose Reyes, (11.5 Points), Adam Eaton (10.75 Points), Ian Kinsler (6.75 Points), and Jacoby Ellsbury (5.75 Points) kept him alive. It wasn’t enough to crack Dan’s score though!

Breakdown
• 30 Entries Remaining
• 10 Players
• Dan Still Alive!
Players With Multiple Entries Remaining
• bcalicore – 5
• ganondorf – 4
• lovesbases – 3
• okwhynot – 3
• theclone – 3
Keys to Success
This round got interesting at a 17.5 was the cut. With 100% of entries using an underwhelming Madison Bumgarner (4 Points), simply getting one or two good players was enough to advance. This pretty much happened in one of two paths:
• Have Brian McCann (8.5 Points)
• Have Dioner Navarro (5.25 Points) and Ryan Braun (3.25 Points)
Ownership Rates Rising
The field definitely has started converging with such high overlap in ownership percentages:
•Madison Bumgarner – 100%
•Carlos Pena – 78.3%
•Rickie Weeks – 82.6%
•Aramis Ramirez – 95.7%
•Shin-Soo Choo – 73.9%
•Alex Rios – 56.5%
That was actually good news for all players advancing as only Choo and Weeks really hit value.
This Week!
Next will see the total number of entries drop to 10! Here’s a rundown of who is left:
• bcalicore – 4
• ganondorf – 2
• lovesbases – 2
• okwhynot – 2
• theclone – 2
• db730 – 1
• fanchamp2004 – 1
• sirmalcolm – 1
• stlcardinalsfan84 – 1
• stlcrds20 – 1
Good luck everyone! And I’ll be back with a recap next week.
