NHL DFS Picks: Slate Summary for Monday, April 15th

Slate Overview

Happy Tax Day to all those who celebrate! I’m a CPA, so people automatically assume I’m a “Tax Guy,” but thankfully, that’s not the case, or I probably wouldn’t be doing NHL content for RotoGrinders right now. I do my own taxes and help out a few friends, but that’s plenty for me.

The regular season is winding down, and every team has between 1-3 games remaining. The playoff spots are almost decided, with really one spot up for grabs between the Red Wings, Capitals, Penguins, and Flyers. I didn’t include the Islanders, who are currently 95%+ to be in the playoffs, but obviously they will be playing to win too. Of those, the Red Wings, Islanders, Penguins, and Capitals are all in action tonight. They all get a slight bump, but I’m not going to go crazy overemphasizing them, as it’s not like all teams aren’t “trying” on a nightly basis.

The biggest injury news to monitor is around the status of Connor McDavid. My guess is that due to the easy matchup against the Kings at home, the team would rest him another night. But who knows; they have been struggling mightily without him and might feel he’s good to go. The biggest incentive for the team might be trying to get him some additional hardware, as he’s in contention for some season-long awards.

Top Skaters

Connor McDavid
DraftKings $9,800

After I started writing this, it appears that McDavid took the morning skate in a regular jersey, indicating that he’s probably good to suit up for tonight. It’s a dream spot for him, as he’ll be at home against the worst team in the league. Honestly, the “at home” part might be as important as the matchup. We’ve covered it here ad nauseam, but his home/road splits are truly absurd. He has 81 points and 153 SOG at home compared to 49 points and 106 SOG on the road, despite playing 2 more games away from home.

It’s shocking that McDavid has struggled mightily in his two matchups against the Sharks this season, registering just a single assist and 5 total shots on goal. But in keeping with the trends, both of those were on the road. If he plays, he’s the top play of the night.
