Top line in great spot on home ice
Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, and Zach Kassian will host the Anaheim ducks tonight. The ducks are another team whom struggled mightily this season and we have been able to pick on a lot. Draisaitl and McDavid have both eclipsed the 100-point mark on the season, which shows us their extreme upside. Anaheim has given up 12.43 HDCA/60 in March. Oscar Klefbom is the power-play defenseman you want in this stack.
This center is averaging over 2 points per game in the month of March.
Connor McDavid has been a man on a mission in the month of March. He has picked up a modest 6 goals but an insane 25 points in just 12 games. He has also picked up two short-handed points and a game winning goal along the way. Tonight, the Edmonton Oilers take on the Dallas Stars who are on the tail-end of a back to back. And while Dallas has been solid recently from a possession standpoint, the back to back is certainly an advantage to an Oilers team that has scored at least three goals in 7 of their last 8 games including an 8-spot against the Los Angeles Kings last game. He makes for an easy two-man mini-stack with Leon Draisaitl as they play on the same even strength and power play lines together.
This winger is back on the top line in a solid matchup.
Leon Draisaitl continues to yo-yo himself from the first line to the second line and back up to the first line. Tonight, he's playing with Connor McDavid and Zack Kassian on the Edmonton Oilers top line as they host the Los Angeles Kings. The Kings have been pretty average as of late from a possession standpoint, but they are on the tail-end of a back to back which should put them a bit behind the eight-ball. McDavid (2nd) and Draisaitl (4th) are both among the top-5 in points now and sit 7th and 3rd in goals respectively. The duo are arguably the most dynamic two-some in the NHL and could be in for a big night in this matchup.
This Center is in a Good Spot This Evening
I am pretty sure that I have never written up Connor McDavid as a LUHQ selection, but there is always a first time. Yes, we all know how high his salary is but man, this match-up against an Ottawa team that has given up 35 goals in their last 10 games is just too good to pass up. They have already given up 12 goals in their first two games on this three game west coast swing so what is another five going to hurt. Now you know that if Edmonton can even muster four goals that McDavid will have a hand in two of them and possibly three or more. The 107 points that McDavid has chalked up means that he has had a hand in over 50% of the teams 210 goals and that’s with not suiting up for four of the 74 games that the team has played. If you want to feel better about not paying the high price, just roster Zack Kassian with him and call it even.
Home Ice: No Problem
Patrice Bergeron has suited up for 55 games this season and has done a fabulous job in those games that he has played in. 65 points is what he has been credited with which ranks him 13th in the league where points-per-game are concerned. A funny thing happens though when you toggle the venue from all to just home games as the 46 points he has registered in the 30 home games he has played in has him behind only Connor McDavid and Nikita Kucherov with a whopping 1.53 points-per-game on home ice. Evidently the Bruins know how to line-match pretty well as their 27-7-3 record in front of the home crowd is second only to the league leading Tampa Bay Lightning. Brad Marchand has been his line mate for most of the 55 games that Bergeron has played in while David Backes, provided he stays on that top line this evening, will surely help you out salary-wise.
This winger continues to pile up the goals
Leon Draisaitl certainly benefits from playing alongside Connor McDavid, as anybody else would, but he is still a great player in a vacuum. Tonight the two are joined by Zack Kassian on the top line for the Edmonton Oilers as they host the lowly New York Rangers. Over the last four weeks, the Rangers sit 26th with a 47.48 CF% and are giving up a 62.26 CA/60 which is the fourth-worst in the NHL. Draisaitl has 41 goals which has smashed his previous career-high of 29 goals. He and Connor play on the top power play unit together so a mini-stack is definitely in play with elite upside.
Draisaitl To Stay Hot
Draisaitl is not only in the middle of a 12 game point streak but has grabbed 16 points over the last 10 games as well. Yes, Edmonton is not a good team but they will have the home ice advantage tonight against a Toronto team that has given up eight power play goals over the last 10 games. Some thought that being taken away from the top line that features Connor McDavid wouldn’t be a good idea but obviously Draisaitl’s recent outburst has proved otherwise. Using him as a one-off here would be the optimal choice only he and Patrick Kane have gone over the 40 point mark in both goals and assists this season.
This winger is closing in on the Rocket Richard race
Since February 1st, Leon Draisaitl leads the NHL in goals with 14. He has been on an absolute tear as of late with 22 points in 22 points in 16 games along the way. Of his 14 goals, 8 have come on the power play while 2 have come shorthanded, showing that he can do damage offensively in all facets of the game. He has primarily played alongside Connor McDavid which is an obvious boost. However, he has done some damage away from McDavid showing that he has elite talent. The Edmonton Oilers are hosting the Vancouver Canucks tonight — a team that is on the tail-end of a back to back. Draisaitl is expected to play alongside McDavid and Zack Kassian and makes for an elite line stack in this matchup.
The best player in the league continues to have a rotation of wingers
Connor McDavid is still the best player in the league, obviously, but he still gets stuck with a rotation of wingers. Tonight, it will be Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Zack Kassian joining McDavid on the top line. There should be little interest in Kassian as his offensive ability is limited at best. However, Nugent-Hopkins and McDavid are a very intriguing mini-stack as they play on the top power play unit together as well. The Oilers are in Ottawa to take on the Senators — a team that has completely bottomed out as of late with trading four of their best players over the last months.
The best player in the NHL really needs consistent wingers.
I'm sure Connor McDavid loves playing with offensive dynamo's like Zack Kassian *pause for laughter*. In all honestly, this is a stack that you probably want to just roll with a two-pack going with McDavid and Leon Draisaitl. The pair have been dynamic any time they are playing together and with both of them playing on the top power play unit, they have full-game correlation. Matt Murray has had a roller coaster of a season and you never know which Murray is going to show up in a given game, but this game should be high-scoring with both teams falling in the bottom 12 in possession.
