Using his experience as a former scout and staff member at Central Florida under Josh Heupel, Jordan Vanek takes an in-depth look at the upcoming NFL DFS main slate on DraftKings. Formerly of The 33rd Team and 4for4 Fantasy Football, Jordan will do a deep dive into the best ways to attack the wide receiver position to help you climb the leaderboards.

The injury bug hit the majority of my builds last weekend, but that is a part of DFS, and this is a new week to find the right combo. I’m excited about the 49ers’ passing game matchup, especially with Christian McCaffrey returning and likely being eased back into action. I wish we had more clarity on the Bills’ wide receivers, but I have a mini stack I love from that game anyways thanks to a clear weakness in the Bills’ defense. Overall, this slate offers plenty of budget-friendly options at key positions, making roster construction easier in my opinion.

Projected ownership will likely experience some changes with the questionable tags on some of the key players, and you need to have our NFL DFS projections and NFL DFS optimizer, LineupHQ, because of this. We will always be updating projections & projected ownership, and you will likely see some drastic changes come Sunday morning after all of the news is out.

Now let’s get into how I am viewing this slate.

Stacks

Brock Purdy ($6,500, QB, San Francisco 49ers)

Ricky Pearsall ($4,400, WR, San Francisco 49ers)

George Kittle ($5,800, TE, San Francisco 49ers)

The Buccaneers’ defense has allowed 3 or more passing touchdowns in 4 of the last 5 games, with the only exception being a game where Spencer Rattler was the starting quarterback. They rely heavily on a high Cover 3 coverage rate, as bringing an extra player down often leads to less vulnerability against the run. When they play with six men in the box, they’ve allowed an average of 6.38 yards per carry. It’s unlikely they’ll give Christian McCaffrey opportunities against a light box, which means we can expect a heavy dose of Cover 3 against San Francisco, just as the Buccaneers have done all season. This approach will be tested against Brock Purdy, who averages 11.2 yards per attempt when facing Cover 3.

Purdy has particularly favored Brandon Aiyuk and George Kittle against this defensive setup, as Shanahan’s offense is crafted to enable these players to thrive. In Aiyuk’s absence, Kittle seems poised for a big game, especially given that the Buccaneers have allowed 9 yards per attempt on targets to in-line tight ends, where Kittle generates much of his production.

For a more affordable option, I chose Ricky Pearsall over Deebo Samuel and Jauan Jennings, as he’s likely to take on Aiyuk’s route tree, especially those horizontally-breaking routes. Watching film against the Cowboys, it’s clear Pearsall looked smooth on these routes, which should set him up for success. Coming off the bye week, the 49ers should look more like the dominant team they’re aiming to be. For them to reach that level, Pearsall will need to step up in Aiyuk’s absence, and this game provides a perfect opportunity for him to gain confidence.
