10 Definitely Interesting, Possibly Helpful Notes for NFL Week 2
Welcome to 10 Definitely Interesting, Possibly Helpful Notes! In this column, I’ll work to uncover some interesting bits of information that might shed some light on players from this week’s NFL games. This is not a picks column, nor is it a “fun facts” article – it’s something in between.
I hope you enjoy it, and I hope it helps you think about today’s NFL plays in a new way as you build your lineups. Here are 10 Notes for NFL Week 2.
1. In Week 1, Patrick Mahomes threw for four scores and an impressive 127.5 passer rating in just his second game as a pro; that’s something only two players in NFL history (Marcus Mariota and Fran Tarkenton) have done in one of their first two NFL games. That’s right – Patrick Mahomes is the next Fran Tarkenton! You heard it here first. Just as impressive was Mahomes’ 115.6 passer rating on the 13 dropbacks he was under pressure in an incredibly difficult matchup against the Chargers (13.9 DraftKings points per game allowed to QBs last year, fourth-best in the NFL). Of course, that’ll happen when you have Tyreek Hill making leaping, spinning, one-handed, against-the-body catches (go to 1:07 of the video…in fact, just watch the whole thing). Last week, Mahomes looked more like a veteran than a QB with only one career start, and in Week 2, he’s underpriced and in position for another shootout against a prolific Steelers team that plays much faster at home (67 plays per game at home since 2015, 62.4 on the road). Ownership be damned, I’ll have heavy exposure to Mahomes in all formats.
