2013 College Football News and Notes: Week 3
Player News
Quarterbacks
Player: Braxton Miller, QB, Ohio State

News: Miller has been listed as day-to-day for the Buckeyes game this weekend against California and is a game-time decision.
Impact: Miller missed the final three quarters after suffering the injury. Kenny Guiton would be a solid play this weekend against a Cal defense that has given up 30 points to each of their first two opponents Northwestern and Portland State. Yes, Portland State. Your best bet may be to grab Guiton and roll the dice with him if Miller is pronounced out. If he is deemed healthy to play, it is still a risky proposition. The Buckeyes play at 7pm, so have a late game backup plan ready.
Player: Munchie Legaux, QB, Cincinnati
News: Legaux suffered a terrible leg injury in the Bearcats loss to Illinois over the weekend. The injury was so bad, he was kept overnight in the hospital and he is out for the season.
Impact: Brendon Kay will replace Legaux for the Bearcats under center. Kay led the Bearcats in their bowl game last season and has potential. But given the depth of the QB position in 2013, there are safer options to choose from.
Player: Trevor Knight/Blake Bell, QB, Oklahoma
News: The Sooners announced this week that Knight will be out 1-2 weeks as he suffered a knee injury.
Impact: This is actually big news because it opens the door for Blake Bell to take over and possibly run away with the job. He will get his first chance this weekend against Tulsa. Given his dual threat ability, if you are in need of a QB2 in a deep BCS only format, Bell is a decent play.
Player: Cody Kessler, QB, USC
News: Kessler has been named the starting QB for the Trojans next game against Boston College.
Impact: Nothing to see here. Considering how inept the offense looked against Washington State, there is no reason at this time to consider Kessler a fantasy consideration outside of Pac-12 only leagues.
Player: Jeff Driskell, QB, Florida
News: Driskell suffered an apparent knee injury during Saturday’s upset loss to Miami, but is expected to play when the Gators take on Tennessee.
Impact: As you saw from the Miami game, Driskell is limited offensively and should not be in consideration for your squad this weekend.
Player: David Ash, QB, Texas
News: Ash is questionable for this weeks game against Ole Miss with a head injury.
Impact: There is just no way you can play Ash. Ole Miss has a solid defense and considering one hit or ding can render him out for the game, given how teams are handling head injuries now, Ash needs to be avoided. Case McCoy would start in his place if he cannot play.
Player: Ford Childress, QB, West Virginia
News: Childress has been named the starter for the Mountaineers game this weekend against Georgia State.
Impact: Not only does Childress have solid potential and long term value in this offense, with an opponent like Georgia State, he may very well be a true sleeper play this weekend and provide some solid QB2 value.
Player: Connor Halliday, QB, Washington State
News: Coach Mike Leach said that Halliday will remain the teams starting quarterback moving forward despite his early season struggles against Auburn and USC.
Impact: Despite the struggles in the first two weeks of the year, Halliday is extremely startable this weekend as he takes on Southern Utah. Expect a massive performance in this one. And to keep the momentum going, Wazzu faces Idaho in Week 4, making the next two weeks monumental for him to capitalize and retain the job.
Running Backs

Player: Ka’Deem Carey, RB, Arizona
News: After being suspended for the Wildcats opener and first quarter of their second game, Carey found his game and dominated UNLV in a stud-esque performance in Week 2.
Impact: Unless he is further penalized for his offseason issues, which seems unlikely at this point, expect Carey to enter Week 3 as the weeks top potential rusher as he takes on UTSA.
Player: LaDarius Perkins, RB, Mississippi State
News: Despite missing the teams’ last game against Alcorn State with an ankle injury, Perkins is expected to suit up for the Auburn game in Week Three.
Impact: Perkins is a tough runner who is a beast on the goal line. Auburn has not stuffed the run in their two games in 2013, so Perkins is a fine RB2 or Flex play in BCS only leagues.
Player: J.C. Coleman, RB, Virginia Tech
News: Coleman will miss this weeks game against East Carolina with an ankle injury and will be replaced by Trey Edmunds.
Impact: This is a plum matchup for Edmunds, who has scored 3 touchdowns already in 2013. If you are in a BCS only league, Edmunds is a solid play as an RB2.
Wide Receivers
Player: Chris Harper, WR, California
News: Harper suffered from dehydration and shoulder issues and played sparingly in the Bears second half against Portland State.
Impact: Keep an eye on this injury cause Harper is going to post huge numbers if healthy. If he is to miss time, expect even more targets for Bryce Treggs.
Player: Charone Peake, WR, Clemson
News: Peake, Clemson’s #2 receiver tore his ACL during a practice during the early part of the week and is now going to miss the rest of the season.
Impact: While other Clemson receivers will need to step up, the biggest benefactor will be Sammy Watkins, who is already a superstar, but will now see even more balls tossed his way without one of the teams biggest threats available.
Tight Ends
Player: Gabe Holmes, TE, Purdue
News: Holmes suffered a pretty serious injury during practice this week and will miss a significant amount of time.
Impact: This is a tough break for the Boilermakers as Holmes is their leading receiver with 9 catches on the year. Look to use other tight ends like Ted Bolser of Indiana or Nick O’Leary of Florida State.
