2015 FanDuel WFBC: Dave "CheeseIsGood" Potts Will Defend Title
Last year, Dave “CheeseIsGood” Potts started taking daily fantasy baseball tournaments a bit more seriously, and set aside a budget to chase qualifiers to the Daily Fantasy Baseball Championship on FanDuel. The allure of the million-dollar top prize was strong enough to get this season-long baseball expert to carve out the cash to pursue a spot at the live final for a chance at turning his love for fantasy baseball into a life-changing payday.
Prior to 2014, Potts only played in cash games in DFS, leveraging his daily understanding of the league into profits over less-informed opponents. But after learning more details about FanDuel’s seven-digit top prize for the DFBC, he planned out a strategy to attack the qualifying tournaments and work to earn a spot at the live final. He would turn that spot at the live final into a first-place finish and $1,000,000, and he’ll get a chance to do it all again in 2015.
Potts qualified for the WFBC on FanDuel over a two-night span, tying for first in a $50 qualifier with RotoGrinders member biggameaims and then emerging victorious in a head-to-head tiebreaker the next night.
To earn the top spot in the qualifier, Dave got a big day at the plate from 4.6% owned Edwin Encarnacion, along with solid performances from Josh Donaldson, Josh Reddick, and pitcher A.J. Burnett to post a 75.5 score and tie for first. To win the tiebreaker head-to-head, Dave differentiated himself from his opponent with Albert Pujols instead of Freddie Freeman at first base, and Todd Frazier instead of Trevor Plouffe at third base. The two lineups can be found below.
Potts will now have at least one of the 90 entries to the live final in Vegas, and will have a chance to defend his title as FanDuel’s fantasy baseball champion.
