3M Open Weather Report and Forecast
We tee off in Blaine, Minnesota this week for the 3M Open, and the weather is nearly perfect.
As usual in my PGA weather forecasts, we’re focusing more on wind than rain. While rain can halt play if it’s heavy enough, it also helps soften and slow the course, which helps as much as it hurts.
With wind, there’s no helpful side; it’s all negative impact. And the impact can lead to dramatic differences in scoring. My goal is always to try to highlight the time frame with the lightest winds and the time frame with the strongest winds to see if there’s a cumulative advantage for one wave over another.
You can then use this to your advantage when making your picks on the best DFS sites.
3M Open Weather Forecast
Thursday, July 24th
Heavy rain late Wednesday night could continue through the early morning hours on Thursday, but I currently expect the course to be dry by sunrise. Winds are light, only a bit over 5 mph all day, and the overnight rain could soften and slow the greens a bit, especially earlier in the day.
Friday, July 25th
Another great day for golf; winds will be fairly steady around 5 mph all day long.
Saturday, July 26th
Winds stay light, below 10 mph; slim rain chances exist during the afternoon.
Sunday, July 27th
Sunday is the “worst” weather day, but that’s basically just a statement on how great the other days are. Winds will pick up to around 10 mph by the afternoon with stronger gusts, and showers/storms are possible.
3M Open Weather Thoughts
It’s pretty much perfection out there, so it’s tough to find any kind of weather advantage. I do have the slightest lean towards a Thursday morning / Friday afternoon build, in the hopes that Thursday golfers get to take advantage of some slower greens, but I don’t think that’s a must-play angle, and I’m not even certain we’ll see an advantage from it at all.
