College Football on DK Preview with HeadChopper and DB730

Chop and DB got to talking about the games on DK this weekend for college football. Read through for the best value plays, sleepers and studs of Week 6 in College Football

HeadChopper: I’m still a little in shock and excited about this whole 10K Draftkings contest. I’m definitely going to do my part to make sure it fills ;). I may have to drop a good 20-30 entries in there, just for the sake of filling it up … I think it’s pretty clear that a dude will come stroll along and play some weird combo of guys and win this thing. My money is on RotoKevin.
So I think the overwhelming lock for a guy who could carry your team is basically any of the big 3 from West Virginia. Between Geno Smith ($10,000), Stedman Bailey ($10,000) and Tavon Austin ($9,750) they should find their way on numerous teams in this tourney. Are they worth it at that price against a statistically challenged, but talented, Texas defense?

db730: I am with you. This is truly a great thing for people like us who LOVE daily fantasy college football. I honestly think it could become the next big fantasy sport because there are millions of college football fans but very few that play fantasy because it doesn’t fit with the season long model.
As for this week, I am positive a lot of people will be riding those West Virginia players, but I think fading some of those guys is the better play. Not only are they all at their highest prices, this is the first real road game WVU will have played this season. No doubt Geno will likely have at least 3 TD’s, and either Austin or Bailey will go over a 100 yards with a TD, but I feel there are guys priced much lower that can match or exceed their numbers and not eat up your salary cap. Last week was a perfect storm for video game type numbers….it won’t happen again this week.

HeadChopper: Um, now watch Geno and the boys go light it up for another 500 yards and 6 TD’s. It wouldn’t really surprise me. In that same game though, there is a QB who is severely been flying under the radar.David Ash ($5,250) at 24 ppg has been a lot better than I ever thought he was going to be after watching him last year. Against this bad WV defense he is a big time bargain. You seeing any other guys out there who are flying under the radar this week?

db730: Chris Rettig ($5000) could be a steal this week against an Army team that can’t stop the pass whatsoever. He has been much better than expected and I think his top target Alex Amidon ($9,500) could put together a line similar to what Michael Campanaro of Wake did to the Cadets a couple weeks ago. Speaking of Campanaro….he is out this week. Do you trust Terrence Davis ($3750) to pick up his production?

HeadChopper: I will have Rettig on a couple teams, but I am leery of taking a WR to pick up the slack. In college it never seems to be the guy you think is going to be the man. Now, put your thinking cap on cause this is a tough question- DeAndre Hopkins ($7,250), Sammy Watkins ($7,500), both or neither in this game vs. Georgia Tech???
db730: The over under in this game is in the mid to upper 70’s so I think both of those guys and running back Andre Ellington ($5,250) have to be in play. Did you see what MTSU did to them last week? I’m leaning more toward Watkins but what with multiple teams I am sure they will both be in a db730 lineup or two this weekend.
How about the Big Ten this Saturday? The conference as a whole has been a joke, but I think there some solid plays to be had this weekend. Who do you like in Montee Ball ($7,500) v. LeVeon Bell ($6,250) and Denard Robinson ($8,000) vs. Braxton Miller ($8,500)?

HeadChopper: Since that first game against Boise, LeVeon Bell has been a huge disappointment. Montee Ball hasn’t been any better himself. This is a tough one but just due to the fact that Montee could be done for the day if someone even remotely touches his head, I’d go with LeVeon. Plus he is a little cheaper on DK. Here’s the good thing about Denard vs. Braxton- you can’t go wrong with either one this week. They should both be solid plays. But here’s the bad thing about them- They cost so much on DK that for just a hair more you can upgrade to Geno Smith or my boy Johnny Football aka Johnny Manziel ($10,000). Manziel is the real deal is so sick to watch. One of the joys of being down here in Texas is getting to see this guy play every week. Article Image
Other than Manziel though, nothing is consistent with A&M’s offense. No true #1 RB or WR. Is this the week to take a flyer on Kristina err Christine Michael ($3,500)?

db730: No chance. Clearly Sumlin is playing for the future and that is Ben Malena ($3,000) and Trey Williams ($2,500). Sure, Michael will get some token carries but ever since he took to twitter after getting suspended and thought it was a good idea to rip the offensive play calls he was in the dog house and that is not changing anytime soon.

Let’s move to tight ends. You know my stance of not paying for that position but this week I think you have to make an exception for Tyler Eifert ($4,500) of Notre Dame and Austin Seferian-Jenkins ($4,250) of Washington. My wife graduated from “the U” so I have watched every game. There is not a worse defense in the country right now and I think Eifert could be primed for a monster night on Saturday. You agree?

HeadChopper: Oh man, TE’s are the bane of my existence. Here is what I have noticed about TE’s; when I play a cheap one and he scores 0 (because they always do), I always say to myself that I must spend the money and get some points out of this spot. Then when I play an above average priced guy and he gets me 0 (and they always do) I say damn I’m never spending money on these guys again. As for Eifert, he is priced low enough now that’s he’s playable. But I think his bad season isn’t turning around anytime soon. The QB’s for ND are bad. The leading receiver is a RB. I just don’t think they can get anyone the ball. He may end up on a team or 2, but I ASJ is a safer pick. Here’s the thing about DK though, the difference between the best TE and a guy like Eifert is only about $2,000. They have Marcus Green ($5,000) from Miss St. just a few dollars more. I’ll play that all day. Colt Lyerla ($3,000) is risky but very well could be huge again. Good value over there at TE.

They really stiffened up their cap from week 1. In week 1 Marcus Mariota ($7,500) was almost minimum salary!! Now he is a very competitively priced. Pretty sure Oregon scores a ton more points, but who gets them this week? Or is the Kenjon Barner ($7,250), DeAnthony Thomas ($7,000), Mariota crap-shoot too much to risk for the high prices?

db730: Oregon is back at home and looks like a good bet to have a big game this week. Personally I hate taking guys in games that start at 10:30 because I find myself staying awake until 1:00 or 2:00 in the morning only to have a 5 month old wake me up at 5 AM, but it’s all about the $$ and the Ducks should come through. As for who to take? I think Barner is the safer bet of the two, but I have a hunch Thomas does something crazy this week. He has been very quiet the past two weeks, but considering Draftkings are awarding points for Kick & Punt returns TD’s, I think he is worth the investment.
So who is your biggest flop this weekend?

HeadChopper: Easy- The Miami Hurricanes. Duke Johnson ($7,750), Stephen Morris ($4,250), Phillip Dorsett ($5,000) and all those guys have been smoking hot for a couple weeks but this Notre Dame defense is no joke. One of the best in the nation and at home. Should be tough for Miami to get things going even though expectations may be high coming off back to back shootouts for the Canes.
Any other offensive powerhouse you’re avoiding because they are facing a tough defense?

db730: Mrs. Back doesn’t approve of that selection even though her husband thinks you may be onto something. The Northwestern playmakers have been a solid play of late, but not sure this is the week to roll with Venric Mark ($8,500) or Kain Colter ($7,250). Penn State has played pretty good defense this year and neither present great value. Allen Robinson($7,000) though could be intriguing for the Nittany Lions as he seems like their only offensive threat and if the Huskies get do get ahead you have to imagine he is going to be targeted a ton.

HeadChopper: I love me some Allen Robinson. I also love me some Cee LO Green and “The Voice” and my ball and chain is telling me it’s time to watch it. So I think it’s about time to wrap it up. All I can say is I am going to pull a DraftKings Matt on you and start congratulating you already. Db you got this. Easy money for you. Is that a jinx enough for you? Hey leave some meat on the bone for me!!

db730: Hope you are right. You’ve already had plenty of meat on Draftkings this year and plus I know you have been in my shoes a couple times before. As cute as she may be, diapers are not cheap my friend. Good luck this weekend!
