FanThrowDown MLB Pitcher Comparison Tool
The Pitcher Comparison Tool, like the Batter Comparison Tool, is meant to help you make informed decisions each night by using relevant daily fantasy statistics. Each version is site-specific, so you can relate a pitcher’s value to their salary and fantasy output for your given daily fantasy site. Stats like dollar per fantasy point are great for measuring value.
The Pitcher Comparison Tool focuses more on matchup statistics than the Batter Tool does. By using tens of matchup-based stats, you can find out which pitcher has the best situation on a given night. Then by adding that pitcher’s stats and splits, you can get a better picture of which option is right for you.

There are 3 Key Stat Categories Used in the Pitcher Comparison Tool:
1) Performance Stats – Includes Season Stats, Last 14 Days Stats and Home/Road Splits
2) Opponent Matchup Stats – Includes Opponent Team Averages, Opponent Team vs. Lefty/Righty, and Pitcher vs. Batter Totals.
3) Park Factors – Specific to the given ballpark each pitcher is throwing in.
DIRECTIONS
1) Type Pitcher 1 and Pitcher 2 into the large, gray boxes below.
2) View stats for that pitcher in a number of splits and matchup based figures.
- Total Fantasy Output Advantage – Based on average FPPG for 3 key splits (season, last 14 and home/road) divided by opponent average fantasy points per at bat for their splits (home/road, left/right, season, and vs. SP).
- Value Advantage – Salary divided by the figure used for Total Fantasy Advantage
- Matchup Advantage – Lesser average of opponent batting splits.

LEGEND
Performance Stats (Season, Last 14 and Home/Road Splits)
- ERA – Earned Run Average
- BA-A – Batting Average Against
- K% – Strikeout Percentage. Total K’s/Batters Faced
- BB% – Walk Percentage. Total Walks/Batters Faced
- FPPG – Fantasy Points Per Game
- Percent of Top – Player salary divided by most expensive players salary at that position
- Percent of Cap – Player salary divided by salary cap for given site
Matchup Stats
- BA – Opponent Team Batting Average For Situation
- OPS – Opponent On Base + Slugging Percentage
- K% – Opponent Strikeout Percentage
- HR% – Opponent Home Run Percentage. Home Runs / At Bats
- BB% – Opponent Walk Percentage
- FP/AB – Average Fantasy Points Per At Bat (entire opposing team’s average).
- AB – At Bats (for measuring sample size in Pitcher vs. Batter Splits)
- Opponent Team vs. Left/Right – Opponent vs. Left or Right Handed Pitching, dependent on the throwing hand of the starting pitcher you submit.
Park Factors
Any park factor stats above 1 are above the league average and benefit HITTERS. Any park factor stats below 1 are below the league average and benefit PITCHERS.
- RUNS – Average Runs Scored in Ballpark Compared to League Average
- HOME RUNS – Average Home Runs in Ballpark Compared to League Average
- 2B – Average doubles in Ballpark Compared to League Average
