Pitcher Grind Down
- Chris Capuano – Capuano has really struggled down the stretch of the regular season. In the month of September he has a 6.61 ERA while giving up a .354 wOBA to his opponents. The Red Sox have found some success offensively over the past few days and should continue that tonight against a struggling Capuano. Rating = 4
Salaries: $5100 FD, $NA DD, $6000 DK, $NA FF, $NA SS, $NA FTD
- Steven Wright – Wright has made a couple of appearances out of the bullpen, but will draw his first major-league start tonight. At this point in the season, there is no reason to target unproven pitchers. Wright can be avoided in all leagues. Rating = 3
Salaries: $5000 FD, $8700 DD, $6000 DK, $ FF, $ SS, $ FTD
Batter Grind Down
NY Yankees
Brian McCann – Tonight the Yankees square off against Steven Wright who has pitched exclusively out of the bullpen this season. He has a good shot of hitting one deep in Fenway Park which is one of the most hitter-friendly ballparks to left-hand hitters. McCann has hit 3 HR’s in his last 10 games.
Additional Plays: Brett Gardner, Chase Headley
Boston
Yoenis Cespedes – Cespedes doesn’t hit for a high average, but he still have terrific power, especially against left-hand pitching. As mentioned above, Capuano has really struggled down the stretch so don’t be afraid to target a couple of Red Sox tonight.
Additional Plays: Mookie Betts
Houston at NY Mets

Pitcher Grind Down
- Brad Peacock – Peacock has one of the best park-adjusted matchups of the night, but that’s about all he has going for him. On the season he owns a 4.82 ERA while walking close to 5 batters per 9 innings. He does have decent strikeout potential (7.9 batters per 9 innings), but is better served as a GPP play tonight. Rating = 5
Salaries: $5600 FD, $9300 DD, $6200 DK, $NA FF, $NA SS, $NA FTD
- Jonathon Niese – Niese hasn’t had the best second half of the season, but he has pitched well at Citi Field throughout his career. This season he has posted a 2.93 ERA at home while holding opponents to a .312 wOBA. The Astros strike out at a lot and the park should help Niese avoid the long ball. He’s a solid play at his price point. Rating = 6
Salaries: $7400 FD, $13550 DD, $7700 DK, $ FF, $ SS, $ FTD
Batter Grind Down
Houston
Jose Altuve – Citi Field is a pitcher’s park, but that should affect Altuve all that much as he doesn’t hit a lot of HR’s. What he does do is hit for a high average, especially against left-hand pitching. He’s in play tonight against Niese.
Additional Plays: None
NY Mets
Wilmer Flores – Shortstop is a thin position, but tonight’s matchup really lines up well for Flores. Brad Peacock is a fly-ball pitcher that has already given up 19 home runs this season. He has also given up a .364 wOBA to batters from the right side of the plate.
Additional Plays: Travis d’Arnaud
Pittsburgh at Cincinnati

Pitcher Grind Down
- Vance Worley – Worley has had a very solid season for the Pirates. He owns a 2.93 ERA with a K/9 of 6.5. He’s also coming off of a terrific outing against the Brewers in which he threw 8 scoreless innings. Tonight he faces a depleted Reds offense that is ranked 27th in wOBA vs. RH pitching this season. The price is cheap enough to warrant consideration as a #2 starter on multi-pitcher sites. Rating = 6
Salaries: $7300 FD, $15250 DD, $7600 DK, $NA FF, $NA SS, $NA FTD
- Mike Leake – Leake is really stumbling down the stretch of the season. In the month of September, he has posted a 7.71 ERA while giving up a .424 wOBA to his opponents. That doesn’t bode well for his matchup tonight against the Pirates who are ranked 3rd in wOBA vs. RH pitching this season. He’s too risky to trust tonight. Rating = 5
Salaries: $7100 FD, $12750 DD, $7300 DK, $ FF, $ SS, $ FTD
Batter Grind Down
Pittsburgh
Travis Snider – Snider has nine hits and four home runs over his last 10 games. Tonight he faces Mike Leake who has given up a .355 wOBA to left-hand hitters this season and he gets to face him in the Great American Ballpark which is one of the most home run friendly ballparks in all of baseball.
Additional Plays: Andrew McCutchen, Neil Walker
Cincinnati
The Reds have really struggled to score runs and their lineup doesn’t look great at this point in the season. Avoid them tonight against Vance Worley.
Oakland at Texas

Pitcher Grind Down
- Scott Kazmir – The A’s lost last night which helped the Mariners pull within two games for the final Wildcard spot in the American League. They need a strong start out of Kazmir who has really struggled during the second half of the season. During that stretch, he has posted a 5.86 ERA while giving up a .347 wOBA to his opponents. Not only that, but the Rangers are surprisingly good against LH pitching as they are ranked 4th in wOBA vs. lefties this season. Rating = 5
Salaries: $8000 FD, $NA DD, $7400 DK, $NA FF, $NA SS, $NA FTD
- Nick Tepesch – Even though the A’s offense has been in a prolonged slump, Tepesch is not a recommended fantasy option tonight. He owns a 4.14 ERA with one of the lowest K/9’s in baseball at only 4.0. He has limited upside and is facing an A’s ball club that has their backs up against the wall. Rating = 4
Salaries: $5200 FD, $9650 DD, $5500 DK, $ FF, $ SS, $ FTD
Batter Grind Down
Oakland
Brandon Moss – The entire A’s lineup is slumping right now, but Moss could be a solid play tonight as he still has good numbers against RH pitching and has hit Tepesch well in the past going 4/10 with a HR and a double.
Additional Plays: Coco Crisp, Josh Donaldson
Texas
Adrian Beltre – Beltre didn’t have the best walk-off hit of the night (see: Derek Jeter), but he did hit a walk-off home run to beat the A’s last night. He has been the ultimate professional this season despite playing on an awful Rangers ball club. Beltre makes a great play tonight as he has crushed left-hand pitching with a .427 wOBA this season.
Additional Plays: Adam Rosales
Chicago Cubs at Milwaukee

Pitcher Grind Down
- Eric Jokisch – Jokisch takes the mound tonight in what will be his first career start. He posted a 3.58 ERA with a K/9 of 8.2 in the minors this season, but will have his hands full with a RH-heavy Brewers lineup in the HR-friendly Miller Park. Target the Brewers side of this matchup. Rating = 3
Salaries: $3000 FD, $5050 DD, $5500 DK, $NA FF, $NA SS, $NA FTD
- Jimmy Nelson – Nelson hasn’t made a start in almost three weeks. While he does draw a terrific matchup against the strikeout happy Cubs, I’m a bit worried about a possible pitch count tonight. Overall, he’s had a solid rookie season with a 3.95 xFIP and a K/9 of 7.3. He’s a decent tournament play, but is a risky option in cash games. Rating = 5
Batter Grind Down
Chicago Cubs
Anthony Rizzo – This pick is fairly straight-forward. Rizzo is a HR hitter playing in a HR-friendly ballpark against a rookie pitcher.
Additional Plays: Jorge Soler
Milwaukee
Ryan Braun – Braun should be one of the more popular plays tonight. His price is down, he’s playing at home in the hitter-friendly Miller Park, and he is facing a left-hand pitcher making his first career start. Everything is lining up for a big game from Braun who has a .364 wOBA against left-hand pitching and a .354 wOBA at home this season.
Additional Plays: Jonathan Lucroy, Aramis Ramirez, Carlos Gomez, Rickie Weeks
