Pitcher Grind Down
- David Buchanan – There are really a lot of average pitchers out there today, and Buchanan continues that trend. His 4.40 ERA and 1.26 WHIP are not helped by his 6.15 K/9 rate. Even with the decent matchup and pitchers park, Buchanan is not an option for me today. Rating = 4
Salaries: $6400 FD, $13500 DD, $7000 DK, $85100 FF, $18300 SS, $13500 FTD
- Tim Lincecum – Well, the great string of starts for Timmy has come and gone and now we have seen him give up 20 earned runs in his last 4 games. This has raised his ERA to 4.51 on the season. He can still give you 7-8 strikeouts on any given start, but with the run he is on now, look for him strictly as a GPP play only against a Phillies offense that is 28th in the league in team wOBA against RH pitching (.291). Rating = 5
Salaries: $7200 FD, $13450 DD, $7100 DK, $53400 FF, $18900 SS, $13450 FTD
Batter Grind Down
Philadelphia
Ryan Howard – Howard has some big numbers against the Freak in his career including 4 home runs making him a great, cheap GPP option with his BIG BAT updside.
Additional Plays: Chase Utley Jimmy Rollins
San Francisco
Buster Posey – Posey may not be having the greatest year of his career, however, he is still one of the top catching options in the league. He faces Buchanan today who has been torched by RH batters for a wOBA of .358 on the season.
Additional Plays: Pablo Sandoval

Pitcher Grind Down
- Wily Peralta – Peralta has been a consistent option for the Brewers over the course of the season. He holds a 3.46 ERA and a 1.21 WHIP, but is hampered a bit by his low strike out rate (6.62 K/9) and has been a bit home run prone. In 24 starts he has allowed 19 home runs this season, which could bode well for some of the power bats of the Dodgers. He is a GPP only play. Rating = 5
Salaries: $7600 FD, $13900 DD, $7300 DK, $101900 FF, $21600 SS, $13900 FTD
- Dan Haren – Haren has bounced back nicely after a horrible July. I am not jumping on his bandwagon yet as he has a tough matchup today. Haren has been a reverse splits pitcher and has allowed a wOBA of .356 to RH hitters this year. The Brewers on the other hand have a lot of great RH bats and have hit RH pitching for a team wOBA of .320. Avoid him today. Rating = 4
Salaries: $7100 FD, $13300 DD, $6400 DK, $69300 FF, $17400 SS, $13300 FTD
Batter Grind Down
Milwaukee
Ryan Braun – As I said in Haren’s write up, he has been a reverse splits pitcher all year. Braun is actually cheaper than Gomez on some sites which gives him top billing here.
Additional Plays: Carlos Gomez Jonathan Lucroy Khris Davis
LA Dodgers
Dee Gordon – Lefties have given Peralta some problems this year and he has allowed a wOBA of .350+. Gordon is always a stolen base threat which ramps up his fantasy value tremendously.
Additional Plays: Adrian Gonzalez

Pitcher Grind Down
- Edinson Volquez – The Voltrain has pitched very well since the middle of June. He has an overall 3.67 ERA on the year, but comes into this game as a heavy underdog. His low 6.12 K/9 diminishes any big time fantasy value he has. Rating = 4
Salaries: $7200 FD, $14450 DD, $6500 DK, $80500 FF, $17600 SS, $14450 FTD
- Doug Fister – Fister has been a great starter for the Nationals and has a 2.34 ERA and 1.07 WHIP on the season. The problem with Fister is that he lacks strikeout potential that makes him a great fantasy option. With that said, he is consistent and could make a good mid-tier option on a multi-pitcher site. Rating = 6
Salaries: $8600 FD, $18100 DD, $8800 DK, $123800 FF, $25800 SS, $18100 FTD
Batter Grind Down
Pittsburgh
I will be avoiding the Pitt bats against Fister today.
Washington
Adam LaRoche – Taking lefties against Volquez is not the worst idea. LaRoche has 2 bombs in his last 3 games and could add to that today.
Additional Plays: Denard Span Bryce Harper

Pitcher Grind Down
- Jon Lester – Lester is our other big time pitcher going today. He has not given up more than 3 earned runs in his last 11 games and has an overall 2.51 ERA on the season. He is an elite option due to his 9.24 K/9 which should get a boost with his matchup against the strikeout prone Braves. Dollar for Dollar, Lester might be the safest and highest ceiling pitcher of the day. Rating = 9
Salaries: $10300 FD, $20900 DD, $11900 DK, $141900 FF, $31600 SS, $NA FTD
- Mike Minor – Minor has been bad this year, real bad. He has a 5.33 ERA and very high 1.58 WHIP. He has a tough matchup against the big bats of the A’s and should be avoided today. Rating = 3
Salaries: $6500 FD, $12200 DD, $6800 DK, $44200 FF, $18000 SS, $ FTD
Batter Grind Down
Oakland
Josh Donaldson – He is my top 3rd base option today against the lefty in Minor. I expect this A’s team to put up a number of runs today and Donaldson should be in the middle of it.
Additional Plays: Coco Crisp Derek Norris Jonny Gomes
Atlanta
Do not pay up for the Atlanta bats today against Lester.
