AFL DraftKings Picks: Saturday, July 11th DFS Strategy

Four games on Saturday for Round 6 of the AFL and DraftKings continue to support the Queen slate for Daily Fantasy. We have a special time of the slate this round with the play getting underway at 12:35 Australian Eastern Standard Time (22:35 ET Friday) which is a great time slot for US and UK players. Neutral venues are the theme of the round after the shutdown of Metropolitan Melbourne earlier this week.

Weather Forecast

The Fremantle and Essendon games are on the Gold Coast which is showing a possible chance of showers (40%) but this should not affect either game. Much the same for the West Coast game in Brisbane. In Sydney for the Melbourne/Gold Coast game there are 60% chance of showers so we may see some slippery conditions at GIANTS stadium.

Team Announcements

Final teams can be accessed via the League’s Website afl.com.au for this match and a reminder that confirmed starters are at 60 minutes before the match commences.

Nat Fyfe will return to the Dockers side which raised an eyebrow considering it was a hamstring strain in Round 4. Zak Jones is also back for the Saints. Luke Shuey’s hamstring injury opens up a spot in the Eagles midfield while highly touted Suns rookie Izak Rankine finally gets his first game after injuries curtailed his young career so far. Zach Merrett for the Bombers returns to the midfield after suspension.

Fantasy Contests Available

DraftKings have posted their main GPP contest with a $40,000 USD pool for a $11 USD entry. The contest is a 128 max contest. DraftKings are now starting to post contests and salaries at earlier times which is fantastic to study for lineups. .

Quirky Fact – Max Gawn’s 131 fantasy points against the Tigers has been the highest fantasy score since the resumption of play in 2020. Gawn has now become the most expensive player on DraftKings setting you back $9,500 in the Ruck position.

Lineup Building tip: With Adelaide on the slate, West Coast stacks are in play especially with Eagles midfielder Luke Shuey out of the side due to injury. There is incentive for ruckman Eagles Nic Naitanui after opposition Ruckman Reilly O’Brien accidentally called him unfit and lazy on twitter during the week. However this Ruck position is stacked on Saturday and may go a long way in being successful in this slate.

Players of Interest

Brayden Ainsworth – M – $2,900
Ainsworth hasn’t played at this level since 2018 where he managed three senior games and showed the capability to hit the fantasy scoreboard averaging over 13 touches and 4 tackles. This time round he should find more of an opportunity through the midfield with Luke Shuey out of the lineup. He also has the added benefit of drawing the best matchup in the league against the Crows who as mentioned above have conceded the most fantasy points in the league to midfielders this year.

Izak Rankine – M – $2,500
The number 3 pick in the 2018 Draft has had a torrid time with the Suns with a rotten luck of injuries but now finally gets his debut for the Suns. The South Australian was one of the most exciting prospects of the draft, a crafty small forward who had flare and a rare skill set in front of goal. If Rankine was more expensive in his first game, I would have second thoughts but you cannot ignore him at $2,500

Elliot Yeo – M – $6,000
Far too cheap in the best matchup in the league for midfielders. He will feature in numerous West Coast stacks, particularly through the midfield. He showed a lot more intent last week after a few down weeks with 5 tackles and 78 fantasy points. That would be enough at this price in the shortened quarters, but we know he has 100 point upside in this format.

Rowan Marshall – R – $6,900
Peach of matchup against the leaky Dockers dual ruckman and rucking solo. This is the clear number one ruck play in my opinion. Marshall has been in ripping form (similar to last season) since Ryder went out of the lineup posting 89 and 99 points in the last two games.
