AFL DraftKings Picks: Sunday, June 21st DFS Strategy
Sunday in the Australian Football League (AFL) will see only a 2-game slate to finish up an entertaining round 3. It was a dramatic day in the league on Saturday with the postponement of the Essendon and Melbourne match due to a player contracting COVID-19 earlier in the day.
The action gets underway at 15:05 Australian Eastern Standard Time (01:05 ET), with the Adelaide Crows taking on the Gold Coast Suns. Due to the pandemic the league is conducting two games at the same ground in one day! Let’s take a look with markets, history, teams and DraftKings fantasy thoughts.

Fantasy Contests Available
DraftKings have posted their main GPP contest with a $35,000 USD pool for a $10 USD entry. The contest is a 150 max contest. DraftKings will scratch the Essendon and Melbourne fixture from slate and place the affected players as locks.
Quirky Fact – This is the first time in recent memory that the league will be hosting two games at the same venue in one day. Gold Coast play in the early game then Fremantle and Port Adelaide play the final fixture of the round.
Lineup Building tip: With only two games on the slate there will be plenty of players in each position that will receive very high ownership. Port Adelaide will be popular in builds but the upsets have come thick and fast in the league. Geelong who were 6 goal favorites, lost at their home ground on Saturday. Do not be afraid to take stances on underdogs in this small slate.
Players of Interest
Brandon Ellis – M – $5,000
The Suns midfielder returns to the starting lineup after suffering a calf injury before Round 2. The midfielder scored 69 fantasy points in the loss to Port Adelaide back in Round 1 but may suffer midfield time after rookie Matthew Rowell exploded in Round 2. Ellis however, struggled to have a solid fantasy floor back in his time at the Tigers in 2019 but at this price point he is hard to ignore.
Scott Lycett – R – $6,600
With only 4 Rucks on the slate, the Jarrod Witts vs Reilly O’Brien match-up will be great to watch but their price means they need to go nuclear to achieve value. Meanwhile Lycett will get the solo ruck against Rory Lobb who is a slighter build than most ruck man and historically has conceded a lot of fantasy points. Lycett is now the sole Ruckman for the Power and will take on the part-time Lobb and beat him quite comfortably.
Will Hammill – D – $2,500
A speedy half back who is playing his first game for the season. He hasn’t been a big ball winner in the South Australian Football League so far in his career averaging just 10 disposals per game at that level in 2019. That said at basement prices with the opportunity for cheap possessions and only needing 35-40 in “shortened” quarters I think he is certainly an option to provide salary relief.
Brad Crouch – M – $6,800
Whilst the Crows are an outfit trending downwards sometimes you might just need to trust the previous data. Crouch is due for a big score against the Suns who have been the best matchup for midfielders over the past two years. Crouch posted 87 fantasy points in a massive loss last week, this game should be more competitive and it wouldn’t surprise me to see a three-figure score from him for the first time this season.
