Arnold Palmer Invitational Weather Report and Forecast

PGA golfer Cantlay

The Arnold Palmer Invitational brings us just outside of Orlando, Florida, to Bay Hill. While some days have near-perfect weather, other days will bring wind and some rain.

As usual in my golf weather forecasts, we’re focusing more on wind than rain. While rain can halt play if it’s heavy enough, it also helps soften and slow the course, which helps as much as it hurts.

With wind, there’s no helpful side; it’s all negative impact. And the impact can lead to dramatic differences in scoring. My goal is always to try to highlight the time frame with the lightest winds and the time frame with the strongest winds to see if there’s a cumulative advantage for one wave over another.

You can then use this to your advantage when making your picks on the best DFS sites.

Arnold Palmer Invitational Weather Forecast

Thursday, March 6th

The windiest timeframe on Thursday is actually very early morning before golfers even tee off. Those winds will gradually decrease throughout the remainder of the day. By the early morning tee times, we’re looking at 15-20 mph sustained winds, with gusts likely around 30 mph. By the early afternoon, it’s still a bit breezy, with 15 mph sustained winds and gusts around 25 mph. You’ll start to see the improvement in the mid/late afternoon when winds drop down to 10 mph sustained with gusts around 20 mph for the last remaining golfers on the course.

Friday, March 7th

Much lighter winds and a much nicer day in general. Winds will start calm and only increase to 5-10 mph by the afternoon.

Saturday, March 8th

Another great day for golf; I expect winds to peak in the afternoon around 10 mph.

Sunday, March 9th

Things turn a bit ugly again for the final day of golf. Winds will be increasing throughout the day and could reach 15-20 mph sustained with stronger gusts by the afternoon. There’s also a chance for showers and storms Sunday, and while rain chances are possible at any point in the day, it would be more likely in the afternoon.

Arnold Palmer Invitational Weather Thoughts

Two somewhat ugly days (Thursday and Sunday), two really great days (Friday and Saturday). A Thursday PM / Friday AM golfer would get the better of the weather on both days, with that edge being more pronounced the later a golfer tees off on Thursday. Friday is slightly better in the morning, but it’s nice enough all day long that I don’t think the split will be too pronounced. Looking ahead to the final day of golf on Sunday, it could be that the earlier golfers are able to make up some ground, and the late golfers struggle as winds and potential rain increase.
