Baycurrent Classic Weather Report and Forecast
We’re headed to Japan this week for the Baycurrent Classic, and the weather is going to be an issue right out of the torii gate (see what I did there?).
As usual in my PGA weather forecasts, we’re focusing more on wind than rain. While rain can halt play if it’s heavy enough, it also helps soften and slow the course, which helps as much as it hurts.
With wind, there’s no helpful side; it’s all negative impact. And the impact can lead to dramatic differences in scoring. My goal is always to try to highlight the time frame with the lightest winds and the time frame with the strongest winds to see if there’s a cumulative advantage for one wave over another.
You can then use this to your advantage when making your picks on the best DFS sites.
Baycurrent Classic Weather Forecast
Thursday, October 9th
It’s ugly right from the jump. Winds on Thursday should start around 15 mph sustained in the early morning, but I expect those to gradually climb through the morning, peaking around noon with 20-25 mph sustained winds and gusts around 35 mph. Through the afternoon winds will steadily taper off, but even by the late afternoon we should see sustained winds around 15+ mph and gusts over 20 mph. There’s no real way to avoid the wind here.
Friday, October 10th
It’s much nicer weather, with early morning winds between 5-10 mph, dropping to around 5 mph sustained for most of the day.
Saturday, October 11th
It’s a really nice day for golf with no precip and winds hovering around 5 mph.
Sunday, October 12th
It’s a solid way to close things out; we should see sustained winds around 5-10 mph through the morning, holding around 10 mph through the afternoon.
Baycurrent Classic Weather Thoughts
There are definitely some weather issues here, though I’m not sure there’s any real way to avoid them. It’s all about Thursday, when sustained winds should easily top 20 mph and gusts will be around 35 mph. With peak winds coming right in the middle of the day, there doesn’t seem to be an easy way to avoid the wind. The best case here is to either go with very early morning golfers or very late afternoon golfers, but even then you will be subject to some wind issues. I don’t have a strong AM/PM lean; I would just make sure you pick someone who can keep it on the course when the winds are blowing or follow our other RotoGrinders experts.
